The Salem Memorial District Hospital is holding a Men’s and Women’s Wellness Screening today and tomorrow from 6:00 to 9:00 am in the hospital library. A number of screenings are being offered at discounted prices. For more information call the hospital at 729-6626.

The 2009 Annual Water Supply Quality Report for the City of Salem water supply is now available and there were no negative results detected during the year. It was also reported that there were no violations during the 2009 year. A copy of the 2009 Annual Water Supply Quality Report can be read at the City of Salem Administration Building, Salem Public Library and the KSMO Studios.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving a service of a warrant, two shoplifting incidents, a traffic violation, discovery of a counterfeit bill, and property damage. On Monday, May 17 at 11:20 in the morning, an officer located an 18-year-old Salem male who had an active warrant from Texas County. The suspect was taken into custody and was incarcerated pending extradition. That same afternoon at 4:00, an officer was detailed to Wal-Mart due to a report of shoplifting. The report led to the arrest of a 26-year-old Salem female for stealing items valued at $35. The suspect was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On Tuesday, May the 18^th at 2:00 in the morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The stop led to the arrest of a 28-year-old Salem female for driving while intoxicated, and the arrest of a 25-year-old St Louis male for possession of marijuana. Both suspects were issued a summons to appear in court and were released. That same afternoon a officer was dispatched to Salem City Hall in reference to a counterfeit bill. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown passed a counterfeit $20 bill when making a payment. On Wednesday, May 19^th at 4:00 in the afternoon, an officer was sent to a residence in the 700 block of South Henderson in reference to property damage. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown damaged a vehicle and that damage is valued at $150. On Thursday, May 20^th at 2:20 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. The report revealed that an unknown male took a video game valued at $60 and fled the store. An accident occurred Monday at 4:00 P.M. in Crawford County on Mound Ridge Road two miles north of MO-8. According to the Highway Patrol Report a 2007 Chrysler driven by 52-year-old Steven Kuntz of Cook Station was traveling north on Mound Ridge Road. At that time, a 1995 Ford Mustang driven by Michael Slawson of Rolla was traveling south on Mound Ridge Road. The accident occurred as the Chrysler was traveling north when the Ford came around a corner on the wrong side of the road and collided with the Chrysler. Two passengers in the Chrysler, 52-year-old Caren Kuntz and 9-year-old Venita Kuntz, suffered moderate injuries in the accident. The driver of the Chrysler, Steven Kuntz, suffered minor injuries. They were all taken to the Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan by the Steelville Ambulance, and they were all wearing a safety restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford and Chrysler each sustained extensive damage and both vehicles were removed from the scene by Miles Towing.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is asking for the cooperation of the public regarding placement of private signs alongside the roads including yard sale, auction and other advertising signs. State law prohibits this placement citing it as an encroachment upon the right-of-way of state highways. MoDOT's private sign removal policy is enforced statewide. According to MoDOT South Central District Engineer Tom Stehn, the highway department will work with sign owners to identify right-of-way boundaries upon request.  MoDOT employees are eager to assist customers with finding a safe location to display their signs. MoDOT personnel will remove signs found to be on highway right-of-way and/or the sign owner will be notified the sign(s) must be removed.  Removed signs are stored at the nearest MoDOT maintenance facility where owners who wish to pick them up may do so.  Anyone with questions pertaining to right-of-way boundaries, locating removed signs or other transportation-related topics may contact the MoDOT Customer Service Center, toll-free, at 1-888 Ask MoDOT (888-275-6636).
