The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors met for their regular meeting Tuesday evening. The Board first heard the Summary of Operations and statistics report and Director of Nurses report. There was an excess of revenues over expenses in April of $4,626.  There were a total of 78 admissions for April and 761 ER visits.  There were 59 transfers from ER and 149 ambulance runs.  There were also 23 surgeries for the month of April. Long Term Care is currently at 100% occupancy, Home Health had 258 visits and there were 387 clinic visits.  Administrator Dennis Pryor reported that a Clinical Laboratory Independent Act survey was recently completed and found no deficiencies in the lab. In the Auxiliary report, the Long Term Care canopy cover has now been installed and is being used, and the gift case has arrived. Also, the Easter Bake Sale raised $1,548. The board then went over some minor changes to the FY 08 budget. Changes were made decreasing Total Other Revenue and Administration Total Deductions, as well as some minor salary changes.  These changes were mostly due to a contractual agreement with one of the doctors,  and has been moved to Administration expenses. There was also a small increase in the Capital budget, bringing the total to $353,100.  The budget was then approved.  The board was informed that the hospital has received an USDA Interest-free loan for $740,000 to be used on the Physician Office Building.  The Board also heard an update on technology being used in the hospital. Fiber Optic lines have been installed.  Finance software will be installed in June, PAC’s and CR System is currently being installed with installation and training to be completed by June 8^th. Also, The Enterprise-Wide schedule will be installed this week and an Acute Care Flow Chart upgrade will be completed and working by June 4^th. The board also approved several purchases.  Non-budgeted items approved include a dietary cash register from U.S. Foodservice for $230; a medical records transcribe station from Bytescribe for $417; an emergency crash cart from Medline for $1,136; a Carrier rooftop A/C unit for the emergency department from Victor Heating and Cooling for $6,169,with an additional $800 to Wagner Roofing for roof curbing and labor.  The board also approved the construction of a concrete oxygen pad for $1,734.  One budgeted item was approved from the ‘08 budget.  Long Term Care will be receiving a laundry sorter cart and cover from Direct Supply for $360. The board then adjourned and moved into closed session.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving a DWI, suicidal subject, thefts and property damage. On May 13^th at 10:04 in the evening, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation the led to the arrest of a 21-year old Jadwin male for driving while intoxicated. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On May 16^th at 10:40 in the morning, an officer was sent to the 800 block of East Center in reference to a suicidal subject. The report led to the arrest of a 29-year old Salem male for assault on a law enforcement officer. He was incarcerated pending the application of warrants. On May 17^th at 1:30 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to the United Methodist Church on Highway 32 and Doss Road in reference to a theft. The report revealed person(s) unknown took drop ceiling construction materials from the job site valued at $2,500. The report is under investigation. At 11:09 the same evening, an officer was dispatched to the 100 block of West Hunt in reference to a theft. The report revealed that person(s) unknown took three gold rings from a jewelry box at a residence. The rings are collectively valued at $400 and the report is under investigation. On May 19^th at 12:41 in the afternoon, an officer was sent to the 200 block of South Warfel in reference to property damage to a vehicle. The report revealed that person(s) unknown broke a headlight out and scratched the drive side door of a black 2002 Mercury Cougar. The damage is valued at $1,200 and the report is under investigation. Anyone with any information regarding these incidents is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

Kip Wells snapped a career-high seven-game losing streak, hurling seven strong innings to guide the St. Louis Cardinals past the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-3, in the middle segment of a three-game series at Busch Stadium. Wells (2-8) surrendered two runs -- one earned -- on five hits against his former team. Jason Isringhausen worked the final 1 2/3 frames to pick up his 11th save of the season for the Cardinals, who put together back- to-back wins for the first time in two weeks. David Eckstein, Chris Duncan and Jim Edmonds all homered in a winning effort. Scott Spezio added an RBI single for the Cardinals who go for the sweep this afternoon at noon on KSMO with Braden Looper on the mound.

John Buck and Mike Sweeney both homered in a five-run second inning, and the Kansas City Royals held off the Cleveland Indians, 11-7, in the middle game of a three-game set at Kauffman Stadium. Mark Grudzielanek was 3-for-5 with a homer and three RBI, and Alex Gordon added a solo shot the Royals, who have won three straight and eight of their last 10 games overall. Buck and Sweeney each homered for the second straight game. Brandon Duckworth (2-3) allowed just one run in three strong innings of relief. Duckworth entered with the lead and was credited with the victory because starter Scott Elarton failed to pitch five innings. Elarton allowed four runs on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings. He walked four and struck out three. Octavio Dotel, who was activated Tuesday after starting the season on the disabled list because of a strained left oblique, pitched the ninth and allowed a two-run homer to Josh Hafner. The Royals' relievers have earned the team's last four victories. The Riyals and Indians play again tonight.

Funeral services for Dessie May Woolf of Salem, age 90, will be held this afternoon at 2:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Lilia Lea Elliott of Rolla, age 54, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 this evening. Interment will be in the Ozark Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Rolla.

Funeral services for Anna Mary Sherman of Rolla, age 76, will be held Saturday at 10:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.  Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 Friday.  Interment will be in the Ozark Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Rolla.  Memorials are suggested to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
