The Dent County Commissioners met Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse for their regular meeting. In the road report, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading was going to be done and materials were going to be added to Dent County Road 6090, and that grading was going to be done on Dent County Road 4220. He stated that brush was going to be cut on Dent County Road 6520 and that a work crew was going to repair chip and seal road 2400 with a cold mix. Purcell went on to report that stop signs were also going to be replaced on Dent County Road 6370 and that he attended the tourism tax meeting Monday night. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson indicated that crews would be checking cemetery roads to see if they can be graded after receiving some much needed moisture in many areas of the county in time for Decoration Day. He said that Dent County truck #118 would be serviced and that they are hauling in brown rock. Larson reported that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 6160. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles will be attending a Central Region Workforce Investment Board Caucus meeting today. Sandy Hogan from the Dent County Developmental Disabilities Board (also known as the Senate Bill 40 Board) came in to present the commission with a letter recommending Cathy Diehl for a board position with a term expiring on December 31, 2014, and adding A. J Seay to the board with a term expiring on December 31, 2013. The commissioners agreed to the appointment. The commission actually appointed Seay to the Senate Bill 40 Board last Thursday, but it was written as the Salem Senior Citizens Board. The error was corrected in the minutes to the Senate Bill 40 Board. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

If you have been wondering lately what to do with old tires, there’s finally an answer. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR) and the Gasconade County Commission, in partnership with the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District and the Meramec Regional Planning Commission  (MRPC), will offer a free waste tire collection from 7:00 am to 3:00 pm today at the Gasconade County Road Department shed, 2685 Highway 19, in Owensville. Waste tires of all kinds will be accepted at this collection, and no fees will be charged. MDNR’s scrap tire fee funds the collection, which is supported through the 50-cent fee collected on the sale of new tires. These funds are used to fund scrap tire playground grants, tire dump cleanup projects, amnesty tire collections, education activities, enforcement, permitting and inspections. Participants must unload all tires. Tires will not be accepted from businesses. The collection is open to all households in the Ozark Rivers District, including Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Maries, Phelps, Pulaski, and Washington counties. MDNR is working with Missouri Vocational Enterprises of the Missouri Department of Corrections to recycle the tires. Ozark Rivers, MRPC and MDNR are also working with other local governments in the region to host additional collections throughout 2012. The next tire amnesty day is scheduled from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Crawford County Road Department shed, 107 Euclid Road, Steelville. Contact the Crawford County Commission at (573) 775-2376 for more information.
