Chris Duncan's three-run home run led the way as St. Louis crushed Pittsburgh, 9-4, in the opener of a three-game series at Busch Stadium. David Eckstein went 3-for-5 with a run scored for the Cardinals, who halted a five-game losing skid with offensive fireworks. Aaron Miles finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and one knocked in, while Juan Encarnacion and Scott Rolen each had two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Adam Wainwright (4-3) allowed nine hits and two runs over 5 1/3 innings, fanning six and walking only one. He also had a solid night at the plate, going 1-for-2 and drove in a pair of runs. Mark Teahen's bases-loaded walk in the seventh inning forced in the winning run, as the Kansas City Royals beat the Cleveland Indians, 4-3, in the start of a three-game series at Kauffmann Stadium. Mike Sweeney hit a two-run home run for the Royals, who have won five of six and seven of their last nine games. Zach Greinke (2-4) got the win with 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Odalis Perez yielded three runs on seven hits, with a walk and a season-high six strikeouts over six innings in the start. Kansas City activated right-hander Octavio Dotel, who had been on the disabled list with a strained left oblique since the last week of spring training, and designated right-hander Jason Standridge for assignment. The Royals and Indians play again tonight at Kaufmann Stadium.

The Kansas City Chiefs traded kicker Lawrence Tynes to the New York Giants on Tuesday in exchange for future considerations. Tynes played in 48 games in three seasons with Kansas City, converting 68-of-87 field goals and 137-of-141 PATs. His 68 career field goals rank fourth in team history.
