The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. At the meeting, Dent County Assistant Emergency Management Director Allan Kimrey submitted his resignation effective immediately due to his acceptance of the city of Salem’s Emergency Management Director’s position. The commissioner accepted the resignation. Kimrey said that he and Dent County Emergency Management Director Brad Nash have reached an agreement to cover for each other in case one of them is not available at the time of an emergency. The commission then agreed to add the assistant director’s pay to the pay of the Emergency Management Director beginning in June. In the road report, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 4185, 4220 and 5600; and that ditch work and rock will be added before grading is done on Dent County Road 2460. Purcell also said that the workers continue to haul off debris from the county road right-of-ways and are taking it to the road and bridge department for SEMA to measure at a later date. In District Two, Commissioner Larson said that rock will be added to Dent County Roads 3334 and 4050, and grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2330, 3334, 4050 and 4055. He said that workers were going to remove trees from Dent County Road 4280 and then repair the flood damage before grading the road. Larson reported that he inspected Dent County Road 4050 and there are two creek crossings on that road. One low water crossing on the road will be worked on to enlarge it as the stream’s current has changed. This will allow for vehicle passage. He also wanted to say that it was reported that the county was going to lease a backhoe from Erb Equipment for use in the cleanup of storm damage, but Erb could not get the backhoe with a “thumb,” so the county rented a Cat from Fabick for the job. Dent County Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that a Board of Equalization workshop will be held next Wednesday in Springfield and all the commissioners and Dent County Clerk Angie Curley will attend. Curley said that the Missouri Ethics Commission representative would be in town to check the candidates’ election reports to make sure they are in order. The commissioners are now taking bids to replace the leased backhoe they currently have. The lease on the backhoe will expire June 5^th. The Dent County Courthouse will be closed on Monday for Memorial Day and then next commissioners meeting will be held on Thursday, May 28^th.

In an effort to ensure that the public has input regarding services provided in state parks and historic sites, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources welcomes your ideas at Montauk State Park's open house on Saturday, May 23^rd. The open house will be held from 8:00 to 9:15 p.m. in the outdoor amphitheater located in the park's campground and is open to the public. Recent accomplishments at the park and future plans will be highlighted during the open house. At a previous meeting held in 2008 at the park, visitors commented on the need for additional shower rooms in the campground and a desire to have a trout fish cleaning station in the park. Showers are being added in one of the campground shower houses and should be available later this summer. The Missouri Department of Conservation, in cooperation with the Department of Natural Resources, plans to construct a fish cleaning station in the park sometime this year. In the event of rain, the open house will be moved to the J. Ben Searcy Building across the road from the park's lodge. Montauk State Park is located 22 miles southwest of Salem on Highway 119 in Dent County. Graduation ceremonies for the Salem High School will start 7 p.m. tonight at the high school football field, weather permitting. In case of inclement weather, graduation will be held in the gymnasium. The 2009 graduating class will have eight valedictorians all with a perfect 4.0 grade point average and they are Kendra Crocker, Grant Gordon, Allison Hall, Yousef Ibrahim, Bethany Kellerman, Hannah Kettner, Matthew Prince and Rachel Van Ronzelen. Tayor Pogue is class Salutatorian with a 3.95 grade point average after seven semesters.

C.J. Smith’s two-out single in the top of the 7^th inning drove in Andrew Kissir to tie the game, then Kissir drove in the go-ahead run with a bases loaded single that begin a six-run explosion in the 8^th inning that propelled the Salem Tigers to the Class 3 District 6 Championship over Sullivan, 8-2. Brandon Plank and C.J. Smith each added two-run doubles in the 8^th inning to ensure the victory. Grant Gordon got the win giving up two runs on four hits, one walk and 14 strikeouts. Smith finished 3-5 with four RBI and Kissir was 3-4 with three runs scored and two RBI to pace the Tigers. Salem is 19-2 and will travel to Westminister Christian Academy Tuesday for Sectional play.

Adam Wainwright pitched a strong 8 2/3rd innings as the Cardinals edged the Cubs, 3-1, capping a three-game sweep of their NL Central rivals. Wainwright (4-2) surrendering a run on five hits and a walk to go with seven strikeouts. Ryan Franklin got his 11^th save. Albert Pujols homered and Brian Barden went 2-for-3 with a solo shot of his own for the Cards, who were swept by Milwaukee in three games before this set. The Cards and Kansas City will square off this holiday weekend.

Shin-Soo Choo and Jhonny Peralta drove in a run each in the seventh to give Cleveland the lead, and the Indians went on to post an 8-3 win against Kansas City in the finale of a three-game series between these AL Central Division foes. Zack Greinke tossed yet another quality outing in a six-inning start for the Royals, allowing two runs on eight hits and two walks while fanning eight. Horacio Ramirez (0-2), surrendering two runs in the seventh for the loss. Billy Butler, Mike Jacobs and Jose Guillen drove in the runs for Kansas City, which dropped the final two games of this set.

The Kansas City Chiefs named Mark Donovan executive vice president and chief operating officer on Thursday. Donovan comes to the Chiefs after spending the last six seasons as senior vice president of business operations for the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Karr Lady Tiger Basketball Camp will be held at the Salem High School Gymnasium June 1^st through June 5^th for all girls entering grades 9-12 for the 2009-2010 school year. The camp will run from 10:00 in the morning until noon. The Karr Lady Tiger Basketball Camp for girls entering grades 5 through 8 will be held at the high school gym June 29^th through July 3^rd. Both Camps are open to girls from Oak Hill R-1, Green Forest R-2, Dent-Phelps R-3, Northwood R-4 and the Salem R-80 districts. Memorial services for Rodney Joe Weible of Jamestown, Missouri, age 43, will be held Tuesday at 3:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem.
