Dent County Coroner Eddie Wilson released a report on incident that happened Friday afternoon. According to his report, 21-year old Joseph Lee McWhorter of Rolla was found shot at his grandmother’s residence off of Dent County Road 205 in the Lecoma area in her bathroom. Deputy Marvin Rice contacted Wilson who pronounced McWhorter dead at 2:50 in the afternoon of a self-inflicted gunshot would with a .22 caliber rifle. An autopsy was not going to be performed as gun shot residue tests were performed and forwarded to the crime lab in Jefferson City. Sergeant H.J. Folsom of the Missouri State Highway Patrol was in charge of the investigation. The body was released to the Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will hold their meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 7:00 PM. During the hearing of persons, the Board will hear from Vernon Holland concerning his property at 707 North Pershing and the work he is doing on the property, and the Current River Cruisers are requesting the temporary closing of 4^th Streetfrom Highway 19 to Iron Street, and Iron Street from 4^th Street to 5^th Street for a Cruise-In to be held on Saturday, June 16^th. Alderman Mike Whitley and Jim Jackson would like to discuss miscellaneous items involving the city along with Alderman Bill Riley and he also would like to discuss a driveway at 3^rd and Pershing. Alderman Jim McDaniels would like updates on the new scoreboard, and the new playground equipment. McDaniels would also like to discuss a storm-water problem; mosquitoes, high grass and miscellaneous items and those will be followed as Mayor Gary Brown gives his comments. During the introduction of bills, Bill #3097 will be introduced. At the last Board meeting the Planning and Zoning Board recommended the closing of a portion of Orchard Street, requested by the First Baptist Church. The Board approved this request and this is the ordinance required to vacate the undeveloped portion. Bill #3098 will also be introduced.  At the last Board meeting the Planning and Zoning Board recommended the re-zoning of property owned by Bill and Twyla Riley from residential to commercial. The Board approved this request and this is the ordinance backing the Board’s approval. In new business, the City has been asked if they are going to go out on bids to cut hay off of the new soccer fields again this year and if the Board wants to pursue this again the City will have to advertise for bids. After the approval of the bills, the Board will then go into closed session for the purpose of discussing personnel, real estate and litigation. The regular meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.

Justin Verlander pitched eight strong innings and Brandon Inge hit a go-ahead, two-run homer, as the Detroit Tigers completed a three-game sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals with a 6-3 victory at Comerica Park. Sean Casey added a two-run double and scored a run for the Tigers, who also swept an interleague series from the Cardinals last year. However, St. Louis managed to beat Detroit when it counted most with a World Series triumph last October. Brad Thompson (2-1) took the loss in his third start for St. Louis and was tagged for five runs on five hits in just 5 2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out one. The right-hander made 14 relief appearances before joining the rotation earlier this month. Chris Duncan homered for the Cardinals, who have lost five straight games. The Cardinals have the day off today after going 2-7 on a nine-game road trip. They return home to open a three-game series Tuesday against Pittsburgh. The Cardinals are tied for the worst in the major leagues with only 16 wins with Washington.

Joel Peralta's two-run 12th-inning double broke open a close game and sent Kansas City to a 10-5 win over Colorado in the deciding game of a three-game interleague set at Coors Field. Peralta (1-2) earned his first win of the season by giving up just one hit and striking out a pair over the final two innings of the contest. Starter Brian Bannister yielded five hits and three runs in five innings, and added a base hit. Mark Teahen was 3-for-6 with three RBI and a run scored for the Royals, who took two of three in the series and have won four of five overall. Emil Brown knocked in a pair and scored once, Ryan Shealy was 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored, while Angel Berroa knocked in the other run. The Royals will have the day off today before taking on Cleveland on Tuesday.

Funeral services for Charles Daniel Dale of Salem, age 79, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 Tuesday. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with military honors. Masonic Services will be held at 7:00 Tuesday evening.

Funeral services for Karl Ray Payne of Davisville, age 54, will be held at 11:00 Wednesday morning at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 Tuesday. Interment will be in the Maple Gorve Cemetery in Davisville.

Funeral services for John Stephen Risbeck of Rolla, age 72, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00. Graveside services will be Thursday at 2:00 at the Clariton Cemetery in Chariton, Iowa. Memorials are suggested to the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association.

Funeral services for Lilia Lea Elliott of Rolla, age 54, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 Thursday. Interment will be in the Ozark Memorial Gardens in Rolla.

Memorial services for Russell Eugene Taylor of Rolla, age 75, will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary of Rolla.
