The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting Monday morning at the courthouse. In the road report, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell stated that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 2460, 2470, 5103, 5110, 5450, 5460 and 5465. He said that rock would be added to Dent County Roads 2470, 5103 and 5110. Purcell stated workers will use asphalt to patch chip and sealed Dent County Road 6180 that has potholes in it. He also stated that some brush would be picked up on Dent County Road 5080 and removed from the site. Purcell then added that he is going to meet with the people at Capital Quarry this morning to look at widening the road for the trucks. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that grading and flood repair work would be done on Dent County Roads 2630, 3130, 3180 and 3200, and rock will be added to 4290 before it is graded. He also said that with Memorial Day coming up on Monday that roads leading into the cemeteries would also be graded. Larson also reported that the commissioner agreed to lease a backhoe from Erb Equipment for $2,250 to help with the storm damage. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that the commission held a special meeting on Friday to discuss the roof on the judicial building. Due to the emergency conditions surrounding the roof, the commission elected not to put the job out for bid and approved the proposal from Dale Williams with Williams American Construction for $26,677, plus repair any damage under the roof at the cost of the materials and labor at the prevailing wage. Skiles said that Harris Glass Company has ordered two window units for the courthouse and will install them on Saturday. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

Joel Pineiro threw his first shutout since the 2003 season, tossing a three-hitter as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Chicago Cubs, 3-0, in the opener of a three-game series. Pineiro (5-3) snapped a personal three-game skid in impressive fashion, striking out five without allowing a walk and retired the final 13 batters he faced. It was the fourth career shutout and 10th lifetime complete game for the 30-year-old right-hander. Colby Rasmus belted a two-run homer for a second straight game for the Cardinals, who were coming off being swept in a three-game series by Milwaukee. Yadier Molina knocked in the other run. The Cards and Cubs play tonight at 6:55 on KSMO Radio.

Mike Jacobs and Mark Teahen's back-to-back homers highlighted a four-run ninth inning as the Kansas City Royals stormed back to take an improbable 6-5 win over the Indians, continuing Cleveland's woes in the 2009 season. The last time the Royals overcame at least a three-run deficit in the ninth inning, one would have to go back more than five years, to 2004. Jose Guillen added a pair of hits and an RBI for the Royals, who have won three of four. Brian Bannister allowed five runs on nine hits in six innings in the start, while Kyle Farnsworth (1-3) was the beneficiary of the ninth inning surge after throwing a scoreless top half of the frame.
