The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their regular meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 7:00. After approval of the agenda and during the hearing of persons, Mary Linn Botkin would like to address the Board regarding the impoundment of her cat. City Administrator Ray Walden will update the Board on miscellaneous items and projects involving the city and Mayor J.J. Tune will then give his report. In the introduction and reading of bills and resolutions, Resolution 6-2014 is needed so that Mayor Tune can sign the agreement with the Commons for the 4^th of July fireworks display. Then in new and/or miscellaneous business, the City has been approached about the prospect of the local FFA youth shooting program using the city’s shooting range. The FFA program has their own insurance and the city’s established protocols would be used. The Board will then vote to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing contracts and personnel. The meeting of the Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.

An accident occurred at 11:00 Sunday night in Reynolds County that took the life of a  Lesterville teenager. According to the highway patrol report, 18-year old Dustin Stulce of Lesterville was driving a 1999 Jeep Cherokee south on Highway 21 about three miles west of Lesterville when he traveled off the roadway and overcorrected. This caused the vehicle to roll and eject the driver. The vehicle came to rest on it’s wheels in the ditch. Stulce was pronounced dead at the scene by Reynolds County Coroner Jeff McSpadden. His body was taken to the McSpadden funeral Home in Ellington. An occupant in the vehicle, 17-year old Brett Barton of Boss, suffered minor injuries but refused treatment at the scene. Barton was the only one wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Jeep was totaled and removed from the scene by Hill’s Metals and Motors Wrecker Service of Ellington.

The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Friday, May 9^th at 7:21 in the evening, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 1000 block of East Center in reference to a domestic disturbance. The investigation revealed that a 21-year old Salem male had assaulted a 27-year old Salem female and damaged property at valued $1,650. He was arrested and incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On Sunday, May 11^th at 1:17 in the early morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. That investigation led to the arrest of a 30-year old St. James male on an active arrest warrant from Shannon County. He was incarcerated pending extradition. Later that morning at 11:30, an officer was dispatched to Casey's General Store on Highway 32 in reference to theft of fuel. The investigation revealed that the driver of a mid 1990's green and white Ford truck pumped $25.01 in fuel and left without paying. That afternoon at 4:55, an officer was detailed to the 1300 block of Babb Lane in reference to a theft from a storage unit. That investigation revealed that someone had cut the lock off of a storage unit and took items valued at $6,500.  Later that evening at 7:38, an officer was contacted in reference to a theft from a storage unit in the 200 block of East Rolla Road. The investigation revealed that a lock had been cut off of a storage unit and items, valued at $1,645, were missing. A 17-year old Salem was arrested for stealing and he was incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. On Monday, May 12^th at 7:34 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to the City of Salem Administrative building located at 400 North Iron in reference to damage to a city owned vehicle. The investigation revealed that someone broke the back passenger side door glass, valued at $150, on a tan 2006 Chevrolet Impala. Later that afternoon at 3:43, an officer was detailed to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. That investigation led to the arrest of a 34-year old Salem female for stealing merchandise valued at $50.19.  She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Tuesday, May 13^th at 2:13 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. That investigation led to the arrest of a 17-year old Salem female for stealing merchandise. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Triston Dubois hit a two-run single in the third inning Saturday that proved to be the difference as the Salem Tigers defeated Owensville Saturday by the final score of 2-1. Jake Conway pitched 5 1/3 innings to get the win giving up a run on six hits and Cory Ramsey got the save. Salem is now 10-11 on the year and they will face Eldon today in the District Semi-Final beginning at 6:30. The first game of the day will pit St. James against Sullivan at 4:00 at the SHS Field. Admission is $4.00 per person who is six years of age and above.

With the bases loaded and two outs in the ninth inning, Ryan Doumit scored the deciding run on a wild pitch by Carlos Martinez to give the Atlanta Braves a 6-5 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in the finale of a three-game series. St. Louis starter Jaime Garcia, who made his season debut after missing the majority of 2013 because of shoulder surgery, hurled seven innings and allowed four runs on five hits with five strikeouts. Kolten Wong had three RBI and Matt Carpenter had two hits and three walks for the Cardinals, who had their four-game winning streak snapped. The Cardinals are off today.

Alex Gordon finished 4-for-4 with a career-best six RBI thanks to a pair of three-run homers to fuel Kansas City's 8-6 victory over Baltimore in Sunday's finale of a four-game set. Lorenzo Cain and Billy Butler drove in a run each for the Royals, who earned a split in the series after dropping the first two games. James Shields (6-3) tossed seven effective innings, allowing nine hits and three runs. Aaron Crow made things interesting in the ninth after serving up a three-run homer to Adam Jones, but Greg Holland retired the only two batters he faced to earn his 12th save. The Royals will start a three-game series with the Chicago White Sox tonight.

The St. Louis Rams have released running back Daryl Richardson. Richardson, a 2012 7^th round draft pick, averaged 4.8 yards per carry in his rookie campaign. In 2013, he rushed for 215 yards in eight games while battling a toe injury.

Funeral services for Gilbert Sturdevant of Salem, age 85, will be held today at 1:00 at the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from noon until time of service.

Funeral services for Mary Grace Harston of Rolla, formerly of Salem, age 81, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the Ozark Highland Christian Church. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery.

Graveside services for Evadna Lee Heck of Houston, Texas, formerly of Vichy, age 93, will be held Saturday at 10:00 at the Walker Cemetery in Vichy. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 at James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the Walker Cemetery.

Alvin Louis Long of Salem, age 70, passed away May 17^th in Salem. No services will be held. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Salem.
