According to Dent County Sheriff Rick Stallings, 32-year old John J. Pawloski, and 24-year old Andrea J. Hutson, both of Dent County, were arrested Sunday after a search warrant was served at their residence by the Dent County Sheriff Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol. Pawloski is charged with felony possession of heroin with the intent to distribute while Hutson faces a felony charge of possession of heroin. They both also face felony charges of endangering the welfare of a child as a two-year old child was living in the home with them at the time they were using heroin that also had access to drug paraphernalia. Stallings said that Pawloski and Hutson were being held in the Dent County Jail on a cash bond of $14,000.

The Dent County Fall Festival Association’s 2011 Dent County SPRINGFEST to be held at the Dent County Commons in Salem, has a possible error with those wishing to sign up online for the Talent Show scheduled for tonight in the stage area at 6:00 pm. Anyone that has already registered online or is still wishing to signup is asked to show up for the Talent Show and registrations will still be taken. 

An accident occurred at 7:20 Wednesday morning in Dent County on Route MM at Dent County Road 4280 just east of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 1990 Ford dump truck driven by 62-year old Richard York of Richland, had the brakes fail on the dump truck while traveling northbound down a steep grade, ran off the road, struck a fence and overturned. York suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital by ambulance. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The dump truck sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct their monthly meeting tonight in the Upper Elementary Library beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the agenda, the Board will adjourn and move into Executive Session, then adjourn and move back into the regular session of the meeting. Following communications, Superintendent Cindy Rumpf will update the Board on Serendipity, summer school and the walking trail. In new business, there will be a CIA-promethean board demonstration, the Board will approve curriculum for music, arts and FACS; consider propane bids for 2011/2012 school year, address Senior High Graduation, approve the  student insurance renewal from Lawrence E. Smithand address resignations. The Board will then vote to go into Closed Session for the purpose of discussing personnel. The meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving theft, a traffic stop, a mental commitment order, and identity theft. On Thursday, May 5th at 2:15 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to Cedar Grove Cemetery in reference to theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown had taken flowers from numerous gravesites.  Further investigation led to the arrest of a 63-year old Salem female for stealing the flowers. She was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On Saturday, May 7th at 12:30 in the morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 44-year old Salem female for driving while intoxicated. She was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On Sunday, May 8th at 6:28 in the evening, an officer transported a 46-year old Salem female to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in St. Louis in lieu of a mental commitment order. On Monday, May 9th at 11:58 in the morning, an officer was contacted at the Salem Police Department in reference to an identity theft. That investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown used the identity of another to purchase services. Then at 4:55 that afternoon, an officer was dispatched to the Craig Drive Storage in reference a theft from a storage unit.  The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took items valued $775 from a storage unit. Anyone with any information regarding the theft from a storage unit or the identity theft report, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

According to High School Principal John Smith, both Salem Tiger Tennis doubles teams will be going to state in Springfield May 27th. That is the first time in the schools history that two doubles teams have advanced to state. The Jonathan Hambacker/Matt Sirois team finished first in District play, while the Steven Morton/Arthur Rekowski team finished second. At Sectionals held Monday in Willow Springs, both teams advanced to the championship match won by the Hambacker/Sirois team. Congratulations Tigers!!

The Class 3 District 10 Championship Baseball game will be held today in Houstaon starting at 4:30 featuring the Cuba Wildcats and Ava Bears.

Kyle Lohse went eight strong innings to lead the St. Louis Cardinals past the Houston Astros, 5-1, in the opener of a two- game set from Busch Stadium. Lohse (5-2) allowed one run while scattering six hits and striking out three. Jon Jay went 2-for-4 and knocked in two during a decisive four-run third inning, as the Cardinals won their third straight. The Cards and Astros play this afternoon starting at 12:10 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Adrian Beltre had three RBI and hit a tiebreaking two-run single in the 11th inning, boosting Texas to a 5-4 win over the Kansas City Royals. Eric Hosmer clubbed the tying homer in the bottom of the ninth, but left the bases loaded in the 10th after flying out. Royals’ starter Danny Duffy, making his major league debut, walked six batters and fanned four in four-plus frames. The move was made when the Royals placed pitcher Kyle Davies on the 15-day disabled list with right rotator cuff inflammation. The Royals, who suffered their fifth consecutive defeat, have dropped 12 of the last 14 meetings. The two teams play again today.

Graveside service for Sheldon Hogan of Salem, age 50, will be held today at 10:00 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery with Military Honors. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.

Graveside service for Richard “Rich” Quinton of Nixa age 40, will be held today at 11:00 at the Martin Trask Cemetery at Cherryville. All arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.

Funeral services for Otto R. Karr of Rolla, age 90, will be held Friday at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 1:00 until time of service. Internment will be at the Ozark Hills Memorial Gardens in Rolla. Memorials may be made to the Phelps Regional Hospice.

Funeral services for Donald R. Willis of Salem, age 62, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 9:00. Interment will be in the Rector Cemetery in Shannon County. Memorials are suggested to the Rector Cemetery. The family requests that everyone wear jeans.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date for Janet Sue Henson of Rolla, age 61. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Ghar Mortuary in Rolla.
