An accident happened on Friday around 4:15 in the afternoon in Texas County on Cooper Road off of Route VV, about six miles east of Licking that took the life of a Licking man. According to the Highway patrol report, a 1980 Honda Goldwing driven by 69-year old Arbrey Redman of Licking, ran off the right side of the roadway, and struck a tree. Texas County Coroner Tom Whitaker pronounced the driver dead at the scene and the body was taken to Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Suffering serious injuries in the accident was passenger 65-year old Marilyn Redman of Licking, who was transported by air ambulance to St. Johns Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis. The Goldwing sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene by the family.
An accident happened Saturday morning around 9:45 on Dent County Road 4060, about 6 miles north of Salem. According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2003 Honda ATV driven by 17-year old Jacob Brook of Salem, was trying to climb a steep hill when the vehicle overturned onto the driver. Brook suffered moderate injuries and was taken by Air Evac to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. The ATV sustained minor damage and was left at the scene. Brook was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.
An accident happened at 1:05 Sunday morning in Texas County about a mile west of Licking. According to the highway patrol report, a 1997 Dodge driven by 19-year old Nathan Cook of Licking, ran off the roadway and vaulted a driveway approach. The Dodge then overturned and ejected Cook before coming to rest on its top in a road ditch. Cook suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the Texas County Memorial Hospital by an ambulance. Cook was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident and was issued a summons for being a minor in possession of intoxicants. The Dodge was totaled and removed from the scene by A1 Towing of Licking.
The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers beginning at 7:00 pm. During the hearing of persons, Cellnet Technology wishes to discuss a pole agreement as they wish to expand their network coverage to read the meters of their natural gas customers. Also to be heard is Donald Durham who wishes to discuss public safety concerning the Police Officers when in pursuit or on a call for assistance; J.J. Tune and Herb Hofer from the Dent County Memorial Chapel as they would like to discuss damages they incurred during the heavy rainfall, which caused the sewer to back up in the basement of the chapel; and Denver Bates who would like to discuss services not being performed. Mr. Bates was told that he needed to fill out a work order form before the services would be performed. Mr. Bates did not come and fill out a work order so therefore the services were not done. Alderman Bill Riley, Jim McDaniels, Jim Jackson, and Kenneth Nash would like to discuss miscellaneous items involving the city. Bill Riley would also like to discuss Derelict Buildings. Mayor Gary brown will then give his comments before the Board of Alderman discuss placing a ½ cent park tax on the August Primary Ballot supporting the City’s Park Development. After the Approval of Bills presented by Mary Happel, the board will then go into closed session for the purpose of discussing personnel, real estate, and litigation. The meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman tonight is open to the public.
In closed session last Thursday evening, the Salem R-80 Board of Education employed Weston Hines for Senior High Math; Mike Gibson for Senior High Social Studies; Edna Cooksey as a Senior High and Lower Elementary custodian; Amanda Taylor as a Lower Elementary paraprofessional; Deborah Armenta as a Junior High paraprofessional; Drew Overmeyer as Cross Country Coach; Terry Parmenter for 7th and 8th grade Football; and Kim Moser for the Senior High Yearbook. The meeting was then adjourned.

Skip Schumaker's run-scoring double in the bottom of the ninth lifted St. Louis over Tampa Bay, 5-4, in the rubber match of a three-game interleague set at Busch Stadium. Jason LaRue got things started in the inning by working a walk off Gary Glover (0-2). After pinch hitter Adam Wainwright failed to get a sacrifice bunt down, Cesar Izturis put LaRue into scoring position with an infield single to third. Schumaker followed by slicing a ball just over the head of Carl Crawford in left to give the Cardinals the win. Ryan Ludwick homered for St. Louis, which won in its final at-bat for the second straight day. Ludwick connected on two home runs, including the game- ending solo shot in the 10th to give the Cardinals a 9-8 win on Saturday. Schumaker and Aaron Miles both drove in a pair of runs for St. Louis, while Albert Pujols was 3-for-5. Kyle Lohse started on the hill and surrendered three runs -- two earned -- on eight hits in six innings. Chris Perez (1-0) earned the win with a perfect ninth. The Cardinals head to the west coast and will play San Diego tonight at 9:00 on KSMO.
Jose Guillen homered and drove in four runs as Kansas City downed Florida, 9-3, in the rubber match of a three-game interleague set at Dolphin Stadium. Mark Teahen added a two-run homer for the Royals, who have won six of their past seven games. Miguel Olivo finished 2-for-5 with an RBI double. Zack Greinke (5-1) allowed three runs on nine hits, while walking one and striking out five in six innings to pick up the win. Greinke also had two hits for the Royals who banged out 14 in the game. Royals' pinch hitter Matt Tupman singled in his first major league at-bat in the ninth inning. The Royals will be at Boston tonight.

Graveside services for Clara Louise Leka Thomas of Steelville, age 86, will be held this afternoon at 3:00 at the Mechanicsburg Cemetery in Illinois. All the arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.
Funeral services for Lynn Kinder of Licking, age 72, will be held Tuesday at 2:00 at the Assembly of God Church in Licking with Pastor David Skeens officiating. Visitation will be held tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 at Fox Funeral Home in Licking. Interment will be in the Williams Cemetery in Licking.
Funeral services for Cecil Welch of St. James, age 94, will be held Wednesday at 10:30 at the James & Gahr Mortuary Chapel in St. James. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be it the Oak Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Oak Grove Cemetery.
Funeral services for Arbrey A. “Jack” Redman of Licking, age 69, are incomplete at this time but are under the direction of the Salem Chapel of the Wilson Mortuary.
