The Salem Police Department released their reports involving thefts. On Sunday, May 10th at approximately 11:30 a.m. an officer was dispatched to the 600 block of South Henderson in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown entered a vehicle and took from the dash a JVC CD player valued $120.00. On Monday, May 11th at approximately 8:00 p.m. an officer was detailed to the 800 block of West Glendale in reference to a theft. The investigation of that report revealed that a person or persons unknown took four wheels valued $500.00. On Tuesday, May 12th at approximately 5:00 p.m. an officer obtained information of a stolen 16’ tandem axle trailer valued $900. The officer initiated an investigation that led to the arrest of a 25 year-old male of Salem, Missouri for receiving stolen property. The suspect was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Later that same day at approximately 7:30 p.m. an officer was sent to a residence on Forest Hill Drive reference a theft from a vehicle. That investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown entered a vehicle by breaking the passenger side door glass and took a purse. The purse was located a short distance from the scene but $200.00 cash was missing. The value of the damage to the vehicle was approximately $200.00. On Wednesday, May 13th at approximately 4:55 p.m. an officer was detailed to the 200 block of South Pershing reference property damage and theft. Investigation of the report revealed person(s) unknown broke the driver side door glass out of a vehicle and took a beauty ring and two center caps valued $150.00 from inside the vehicle. The value of the damage is approximately $200.00. Later that evening at approximately 5:30 p.m. an officer was contacted at the Salem Police Department in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a persons or persons unknown took a woman’s black wallet with white stitching from a shopping cart at Wal-Mart. The value of the wallet and contents is approximately $100.00. On Thursday, May 14th at approximately 8:23 a.m. an officer was dispatched to the Salem Residential Care Center in reference a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took $80.00 cash from a wallet of one of the residents.  Please contact the Salem Police Department at (573) 729-4242 if you have any information regarding any of the thefts, which are still under investigation.

The City of Salem Board of Aldermen will hold their regular meeting tonight at 7:00 at the City Hall Council Chambers. At the meeting, Eric Schafer will talk with the aldermen about access to the drainage ditch behind Hickory Street to keep it cleaned out to prevent flooding. After the consent agenda, the board will hear from the aldermen about miscellaneous items. Alderman McDaniels will also ask for a debriefing from the department heads on the recent storm, as well as give an update on the planning for the Independence Day celebration. Mayor Gary Brown will give an overall report on the storm and the damage done to the city, give a report on the Tower Inn and then provide his comments. In the Introduction and Reading of Bills, the board will discus Bill #3164 which is an ordinance that amends Section 17-4 and Section 30-173 of the Code of Ordinances for the City of Salem that concerning the definition of a single family dwelling. The board will then hear from the mayor concerning the appointments to the Finance Committee, Community Services Committee and the Airport Board before the bills are approved. The meeting will then be adjourned. The meeting of the City of Salem Board of Aldermen tonight is open to the public.

Mark Twain National Forest is temporarily closing several campgrounds and ATV trails after the May 8^th storm that hit south central Missouri. Mark Twain National Forest has closed all 23 miles of Sutton Bluff Motorcycle and ATV trails in Reynolds County, and all 80 miles of Chadwick Motorcycle and ATV trails in Christian County. Both trails will be closed until the Forest Service can get crews into the area to open the trails with chainsaws and heavy equipment. The clean up is expected to take at least a month or two. Several campgrounds are also closed due to fallen trees and damaged recreation facilities including Sutton Bluff Recreation Area in Reynolds County; Council Bluff Campground in Washington County, and Loggers Lake Campground in Shannon County. These campgrounds are expected to be closed for the next few weeks. If there are customers who have reservation at these campgrounds, the ReserveAmerica Customer Service staff will proceed with notifying each customer and re-booking them to another campground.  If this is not possible, the reservation will be canceled and a customer refund processed. The Salem Baseball Tigers District game Saturday with Hermann was rained out and rescheduled for today at 4:30 at Owensville. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio or online at ksmoradio.com.

Manny Parra was solid in six innings of work and Prince Fielder helped seal the win with a three-run homer in the seventh, as the Brewers defeated the Cardinals, 8-2, in the middle installment of a three-game series at Busch Stadium. Nick Stavinoha and Colby Rasmus each drove in a run for the Cardinals, who have lost four of five. Albert Pujols went 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Todd Wellemeyer (3-4) lasted 5 2/3 frames, giving up four runs on three hits with seven walks and three strikeouts to take the loss. The Cards and Brewers play tonight in a makeup game from Friday night's rainout starting at 6:55 and you can hear the game on KSMO.

John Buck's RBI triple highlighted a three- run eighth inning, as Kansas City edged Baltimore, 7-4, in the finale of a four-game set from Kauffman Stadium. Buck finished with a pair of RBI in the win. Jose Guillen and Billy Butler also drove in two runs apiece for the Royals, who split the series on the heels of a five-game slide. Coco Crisp knocked in the other run in the win. Juan Cruz (3-0) came in to pitch the ninth and retired the side in order to seal the victory.

Funeral Mass for Mary E. Nothaus of Salem, age 85, will be held this morning at 10:00 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Salem. Interment will be in the New Hope Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Anthony J. Briener, age 57, will be held Tuesday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be from 1:00 until service time Tuesday. Interment will be in the New Harmony Cemetery.

Funeral services for Arlene Powell of Salem, age 87, will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00 at the Russell Colonial Funeral Home in St. Clair. Visitation will be held after 1:00 Tuesday. Interment will be in the Lake Charles Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Louis. Memorials may be made to the Cancer Research Foundation.

Funeral services for Edward L. Rose Sr. of St. James, age 59, will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Old Alexandria Cemetery in Troy at 2:00 Wednesday.

Graveside services for Elvin “Wayne” Baird of Salem of will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the Carty Cemetery in Salem. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services for Daniel R. “Butch” Holman of St. James, age 70, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Hughes Cemetery in rural Phelps County.

Funeral services for Virginia Louise Conway of Reston, Virginia, formerly of Rolla, age 74, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the First Baptist Church in Salem. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to your local hospice program.
