The Salem Police Department released their reports involving assault, theft and a domestic disturbance. On Monday, May 10th at 10:13 p.m. an officer was detailed to the 800 block of North Washington in reference to an assault with a knife.  The investigation of the report revealed that a 41-year old Salem male had threatened a 54-year old Salem male with a knife. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect for unlawful use of a weapon and 2nd degree assault. He was incarcerated pending application for a warrant. On Wednesday, May 12th at 2:47 p.m. an officer was dispatched to the T and M Pet Emporium on North Main Street in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took $600.00 cash from the cash register and a cash bag containing $500.00 cash. On Thursday, May 13th at 7:23 in the evening, an officer responded to the 1100 block of South Wines in reference to a domestic disturbance. The investigation of that report led to the arrest of a 22-year old Salem male for 3rd degree domestic assault. He was incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their meeting at the City Hall Council Chambers tonight beginning at 7:00 pm. During bids, the city had requested bids for a new lawn tractor for the Park and Recreation Department and the city had requested bids for a new diving board for the city pool. Both of these are budgeted items and bids will be presented. Mayor Gary Brown, with the approval of the Board will then appoint three members to the Planning & Zoning Commission: Becky Godi for a term of four years, and re-appoint Dr. Wayne Bertz and Shirley Hollenbeck both for a term of four years. Mayor Brown, also with the approval of the Board will re-appoint John Boyle for a term of five years to the Planning & Zoning Board of Adjustment; and with the approval of the Board, Mayor Brown will appoint David Dittman, Jodie Heavin, S.N. Ball IV, Carrie Snider, Ray Walden, Steve Plank, Mike Rocoberto, Brian Larson, Stacy Kirker and Alderman Jerry Randell to one year terms on the Park and Recreation Board. On the Airport Board, with the approval of the Board, Mayor Brown will appoint Jim Heavin, John Maledy, Rick Domeyer, Bill Huffman, Ben Bryson and an Alderman to be selected later for one year terms. During reports of city officials, boards and committees, the Park Board held a meeting on Wednesday, May 5^th at the Salem Freedom Activity Center and at the Alderman’s request reviewed the pool rates and made recommendations that will be presented to the City of Salem Board of Alderman. After reports on various issues involving the City of Salem by Mayor Gary Brown, and approval of bills presented by City Clerk Mary Happel, the Board may vote to go into Closed Session. The meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open the public.

An accident happened Friday afternoon at 1:35 in Iron County on Highway 32 at Bixby. According to the highway patrol report, a 2002 Dodge Dakota driven southbound by 73-year old James Sheets of Lincoln, Nebraska, failed to stop at a stop sign and struck an eastbound 1992 International Dump Truck driven by 41-yaer old Robert Dotson of Bixby, causing the dump truck to overturn. Sheets and Dotson suffered minor injuries and were both taken by ambulance to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. Sheets was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident while Dotson was not. Both vehicles were totaled and removed from the scene by Abney’s Wrecker Service.

An accident occurred at 9:40 Friday night in Phelps County on County Road 1130 just north of St. James. According to the highway patrol report, a 2006 Ford Escape driven by 23 year-old Justin Miller of Salem was fleeing from Phelps County deputies when he lost control in a curve, ran off the road, and overturned. Miller suffered minor injuries and was taken to Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla by St. James ambulance. He wasn’t wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford Escape sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene by Spurgeon’s.
