The Salem Police Department released their reports involving disorderly conduct, theft and shoplifting. On May 2^nd at 9:51 in the evening, an officer was detailed to the 200 block of East Roosevelt in reference to a peace disturbance. The report led to that arrest of a 47-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct.  HE was incarcerated and will be issued a summons to appear in court. On May 7^th at 12:27 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the 300 block of West Ninth Street in reference to a disturbance. The report led to the arrest of a 25-year old Salem female for peace disturbance and disorderly conduct. She was incarcerated and will be issued a summons to appear in court. On May 9^th at 2:10 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft from a vehicle. The report revealed that person(s) unknown took a blue Nokia cell phone, valued at $150, from a tan 2001 Ford truck parked on the TCRC parking lot. The report is under investigation. On May 10^th at 4:58 in the afternoon, officers of the Salem Police Department served a search warrant in the 200 block of South Jackson. Service of the warrant led to the arrest of a 23-year old Salem male for possession of a hallucinogen and possession of marijuana. He was incarcerated pending the application of warrants. On May 13^th at 1:43 in the morning, an officer was detailed to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. The report led to the arrest of a 27-year old Salem male for stealing. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Anyone with any information regarding these incidents is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

On May 13^th at 2:50 in the morning while on routine patrol, a Dent County Sheriff’s deputy made an investigative vehicle stop at a business located on Highway 32 East in Salem. Investigation led to a baggie containing a white powder substance, a straw with residue that field-tested positive for methamphetamine, and a 357 magnum revolver being taken into evidence. As a result, 46-year old Raymond Lloyd Norris of Salem was taken into custody and charged with one felony county of possession of a controlled substance and one felony count of unlawful use of a weapon. Bond was set at $7,000.

The Salem Police Department released their report for the month of April. During the month, they wrote 26 traffic tickets, 29 warning tickets and one equipment repair order. They served 38 summonses to appear in court and three fugitive warrants. The Salem Police Department investigated nine accidents, two assaults, five domestic assaults, and five reports of driving while intoxicated. The Police Department also investigated 13 reports of stealing, one report of

property damage, three burglaries, one report of harassment, one report of a minor in possession of intoxicants, one report of a lost or stolen plate, two reports of disorderly conduct, one report for open containers, one report of a refusal to obey a lawful order, and one report of leaving the scene of an accident. They also investigated one report of possession of drug hallucinogen and 11 reports of possession of marijuana.  The police conducted one death investigation. The police received 1,726 calls for service during the month and handled 121 walk-ins to the station. The Salem Police Department redirected 71 calls to the animal control officer. They spent 20 hours in court testifying, and six hours as court bailiff. The calls in April included 19 calls for escorts, three 9-1-1 calls, seven intoxicated driver investigations, one call for a suspicious person or vehicle, six calls for peace disturbances, six calls for domestic disputes, four calls for fights in progress, five ambulance assist calls, three calls for alarms sounding, five domestic dispute calls, two calls for an intoxicated pedestrian, two fire calls and three wreckers were needed. The Salem Police Department drove a total of 11,619 miles during the month of April. The Salem Police Department arrested 32 males and 7 females during the month of April.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct a special closed session, called by Mayor Gary Brown today at 4:00 PM in the city administrative offices for the discussion of real estate.

Rafael Furcal had his third consecutive four-hit game, and the Los Angeles Dodgers edged the St. Louis Cardinals, 9-7, in the second portion of a three-game set at Dodger Stadium. Derek Lowe (4-4) allowed eight hits and four runs in 5 1/3 innings for the Dodgers, who beat the Cardinals for the first time in 11 games. Takashi Saito worked the ninth for his 12th save. Adam Wainwright (3-3) lasted just 2 2/3 innings in the start for St. Louis. He was torched for seven hits, eight runs and walked four. He threw 72 pitches, just 36 for strikes. Ryan Ludwick had three RBI, and Albert Pujols had two hits and knocked in a pair of runs for the Cardinals, who have dropped two of three. The Cards play the Dodgers tonight at 7:00 on KSMO Radio.

The Cardinals claimed reliever Todd Wellemeyer off waivers from the Kansas City Royals earlier in the day, and plan to add him to their roster this weekend. Wellemeyer was 0-1 with a 10.34 ERA in 12 games for the Royals this season, allowing 25 hits in 15 2/3 innings. He has a career record of 6-8 with a 5.65 ERA.

Dan Johnson's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 11th inning lifted the Oakland Athletics to a 5-4 victory over the Kansas City Royals in the second installment of a four-game series at McAfee Coliseum. Nick Swisher finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored for the Athletics, who evened the series and won for the fourth time in their last six games overall. Bobby Crosby drove in two runs in the win. John Buck homered and Tony Pena hit a key two-run triple for the Royals, who saw their brief two-game winning streak halted. Brian Bannister took the mound for KC and surrendered two runs on five hits in six innings with three strikeouts. Joakim Soria (1-2) got the loss pitching the 11th inning. Royals second baseman Mark Grudzielanek saw his 14-game hitting streak end. Despite the loss, the Royals have won five of their last seven games at Oakland. These two teams play again tonight in Oakland.

The NBA announced on Tuesday that Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki has been named the Most Valuable Player for the 2006-07 season. The first European and first Maverick to win the award, Nowitzki led Dallas to a league-best 67-15 finish this year, the most victories in franchise history. Despite a stunning loss to Golden State in the first round of the playoffs, the voting to make Nowitzki MVP occurred immediately after the regular season.

Graveside services for Kathryn Shaw of Salem, age 69, will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 at the Bourbon City Cemetery. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 in the Wilson Mortuary Chapel.

Funeral services for Herman Schalienberg Sr. of St. James will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 at the First Baptist Church in St. James. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 tonight at the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church of St. James.

Funeral services for Denzil Jack Parker of Bunker, age 90, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the Crossville Baptist Church in Bunker. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Crossville Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Crossville Baptist Church.

No funeral services will be held for Bessie May Askey of Salem, age 98, who passed away May 15^th. Bessie Askey donated her body to Washington University in St. Louis.

Services for Betty J. Richardson of Lenox, age 79, are incomplete at this time and are under the direction of James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem.
