The Missouri Highway Patrol has taken 31-year old Cody N. Willcoxson of South West City, Missouri into custody after being apprehended by officers after a long chase Thursday in Phelps and Pulaski County. He is being held as a suspect in connection to an incident at the Missouri University of Science and Technology campus, and a security incident at Fort Leonard Wood West Gate. Willcoxson was ordered to turn around at the West Gate at Fort Leonard Wood and leave because he did not have proper documentation. He continued driving through the west gate toward the main gate on post where he was pursued by military police. The driver left the fort through the main gate where he was pursued by the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department. Willcoxson then supposedly fired shots at the officers as he headed east on I-44. The suspect also fired shots at Rolla police officers. Willcoxson then crashed his vehicle near McNutt Hall at Missouri Science and Technology and got out with a gun around 8:45 in the morning, entered the hall and then later came out of the hall without his gun which was later identified as an AK-47. Rolla police said a few minutes later the suspect broke into a residence in the 1000 block of Crinoidal Ct and demanded the keys to a 2003 Ford Taurus which he stole. Investigators said an alert Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper spotted the suspect's vehicle and got behind it.  They were involved in a short pursuit, south of Rolla. Willcoxson stopped the vehicle and was taken into custody. More than 150 officers were involved in apprehending Willcoxson. Investigators said they believe he acted alone. Drug-related items were found in the original vehicle Willcoxson was in. Warrants for numerous felonies have been applied for.  His bond has been set at $1 million.

The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning at the courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 4100, 5020, 5170, 5420, 5490, 6090 and 6100. He said that the remainder of the crew would be working on the rebuilding of the temporary low water crossing over Sinking Creek in Bunker. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2050, 32455 and 3285, while gravel would be added and grading done on Dent County Road 5300. Larson said that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 3225 and both districts are in the process of repairing and working on the cemetery roads between now and Memorial Day. If they miss a road to a cemetery, please contact the commissioners so that it can be addressed. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles called into the meeting and said that he attended a County Commissioner Association of Missouri meeting where they heard updates on some legislation. He stated that a possible revision of the budget law for counties is being considered that would allow them to reduce their budget should revenues go down. He said that it also appears that legislation is going to go through that would allow voters to decide if there should be early voting for elections that would also include a voter ID requirement. He said that added to that bill was that the state would have to provide funding to the counties to pay for the early voting. He went on to report that CCAM also was not pleased with the proposed realignment of MoDOT. That issue was to be discussed at the MRPC meeting Thursday night. Commissioner Purcell reported that the sales tax revenue through April was $965.64 less this year than for last year for the same time period. Dent County Deputy Clerk Crystal Pilkington said that the Board of Equalization would be meeting on July 11^th at 2:00. The deadline for citizens to file will be June 20^th. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem High School Alumni Association has voted to dissolve as of Wednesday, May 11^th. This was a mutual agreement due to the lack of interest and economic times. The current balance in their account is $2,477.86. That amount will be reduced by the expense of an out of town mailing to inform members of the association of the decision to dissolve. The remaining balance will then be given to Class of 2011 Project Graduation. The association thanks everyone for their support throughout the years.

The Class 3 District 10 Baseball Tournament scheduled to start at 10:00 this mroning has been mpved back to begin at noon. with the Mountain View Liberty and Ava game.

The Salem Baseball Tigers will be hosting the Class 3 District 10 Baseball Tournament this Saturday, and again on Monday and Wednesday, weather permitting. In order to control traffic in the area, Dilworth Lane between Rolla Road and Center Street will be closed from just before 9:00 Saturday morning until about 6:00 Saturday night. Entrance to the parking areas will only be held accessible on the east side of Tiger Pride Drive, or by heading west on Third Street from McArthur. The cost of admission is $3.00 per person. Salem has a bye for the games tomorrow and will play the winner of the Cuba/Houston game on Monday at 4:00.

The Salem Tigers Track Teams will be participating in District competiiton on Saturday. Good Luck Tigers!!!

Jon Jay drove in three runs and Jaime Garcia tossed seven solid innings, as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Chicago Cubs, 9-1, in the rubber match of a three-game series at Wrigley Field. Jay, Colby Rasmus and Yadier Molina each had three hits for the Cardinals, who have won six of their last nine games. Matt Holiday had two hits including a solo homer in the game. Garcia (5-0) allowed one run on a season-high nine hits, struck out four and lowered his ERA to 1.89. The Cardinals will be in Cincinnati tonight starting at 5:35 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Melky Cabrera and Eric Hosmer belted solo homers and knocked in two runs apiece, leading the Kansas City Royals to an 11-5 win over the New York Yankees in the rubber match of a three-game series. Billy Butler and Alcides Escobar also had two runs batted in for the Royals, who won a series in the Bronx for the first time since 1999. Butler had four hits. Kansas City starter Sean O'Sullivan (2-2) was perfect through 4 1/3 innings until giving up a Robinson Cano homer in the fifth. He yielded four runs on six hits and two walks in 6 2/3 innings for the win. The Royals will be in Detroit this weekend.
