The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. At the meeting, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5510, 6280 and 6500. Simpson also said that grading would be done and material would be hauled to Dent County Road 6190 and brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5600.  District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2150 and 5330. Tune also said that grading would be done and material would be hauled to Dent County Roads 2240 and 2330. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that Susan Cunningham with Spatial Data Research would be at Thursday’s meeting to update the Commission on where the county is with rural addressing. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that she signed two purchase leases for the Sheriff’s Department in the amount of $18,041.00 for two new cars. Curley and the Commission also attended the new city and county website luncheon that was held at My Place yesterday at noon. The next meeting of the Commission will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

An accident occurred Sunday evening in Dent County on Route DD at County Road 2300 about four miles west of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, 2002 Chrysler Sebring driven by 38-year old Connie Thompson of Salem was traveling westbound. Thompson was attempting to make a left turn onto Route DD and pulled into the path of a northbound 2002 Dodge Van driven by 69-year old George Malone of Salem. Thompson suffered minor injuries and was transported by private vehicle to seek her own treatment. Everyone involved was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chrysler sustained moderate damage and was left roadside to be removed later. The Dodge sustained moderate damage and was driven from the scene. 

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their report for the month of April. For the month there were 90 9-1-1- calls, in which all were responded to with 15 of the calls being prank calls. The Department served 164 papers consisting of 102 civil papers, 52 criminal papers and 10 notices to vacate, plus they served 16 felony warrants and seven misdemeanor warrants. During the month, there were 12 drug arrests and 11 domestic disturbance calls were addressed. The Sheriff’s Department conducted 85 traffic stops, issued 42 tickets, made three DWI arrests and assisted on 16 traffic accidents. The Dent County Sheriff’s Department also conducted one death investigation. For the month of April, the Sheriff’s Department investigated three burglaries, three assaults, nine thefts, two crimes against children, eight trespassing or property line disputes, and three property damage reports. The Department spent 155 hours working in court and 14.5 hours testifying and 27 hours in training. The Dent County Sheriff’s Department handled a total of 248 calls during the month and made six community policing appearances. In the Dent County Jail Report for April, there were 45 prisoners incarcerated for the month with an average daily total of 13. There were two transfers to the Department of Corrections and 27 transfers to or from other departments. During the month of April, the sheriff’s department drove a total of 19,826 miles on criminal investigations, patrolling and prisoner transportation.

Four Salem Tiger errors cost them two runs and that proved to be the difference as the Union Wildcats beat Salem in the first round of district baseball action Monday at St. James by the score of 3-1. Andrew Karr had three hits and Brandon Plank had two hits for Salem who finished the day with eight hits overall, but could not score until the 7th inning. Ethan Curley went the distance for Salem giving up three runs on five hits, one walk and five strikeouts. Salem finished the year with a 9-7 record.

The Salem High School Volleyball Camp scheduled for grades 2nd through 8th will not be held due to the extending of the school year because of snow days and summer school enrollment. If parents have questions, they should contact Coach Bermudez.

Ryan Braun hit two home runs for the second straight day, and the Milwaukee Brewers scored five times in the third inning en route to an 8-3 dismantling of the St. Louis Cardinals in the finale of a four-game series at Miller Park. Corey Hart went 2-for-4 and knocked in a pair of runs for the Brewers, who took three of four in the series. Bill Hall added a solo homer, while Mike Cameron doubled, knocked in a run and scored a run. Rick Ankiel homered for the Cardinals, who have lost five of six, while Jason LaRue and Skip Schumaker drove in a run apiece. Adam Wainwright (3-2) lost after being shelled for eight runs -- six earned -- on eight hits over six innings. Manager Tony LaRussa and catcher Yadier Molina were both ejected in the bottom of the fifth inning for arguing balls and strikes. After being ejected, Molina left his shin guards, chest protector and gloves at home plate. The Cardinals will return to Busch Stadium to face the Pittsburgh Pirates to start a three game series. The Kansas City Royals had the day off and will be back in action tonight as they will host the Detroit Tigers at Kaufmann Stadium to start a three game series.

Kansas City Chiefs have signed fullback Steven Jackson, linebacker E.J. Kuale, wide receiver Kevin McMahan and offensive tackle Ken Shackleford to two-year contracts.

Funeral services for Rodney D. Grouns of St. James, age 74, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Rolla Area Youth Baseball and Softball.

Funeral services for Ernest E. Vest of Jefferson City, age 71, will be held today at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Upper Bee Fork (Davis) Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Capital Projects Sheltered Workshop in Jefferson City.

Funeral services for Clara Mae Wisdom of Steelville, age 76, will be held today at 1:00 at the First Baptist Church in Steelville. Interment will be in the Crossville Cemetery in Bunker. All arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Terry Lynn Roberts of Salem, age 54, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the St. Jude Cancer Trail Ride.

A Memorial Mass for Elbertine “Mickey” Kiefer of Rolla, age 90, will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 at the St. Patrick’s Church in Rolla. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
