David Ray Hensley of Salem was arrested on Wednesday, May 5th and charged with two counts of forcible rape and two counts of incest. One count stems from December 1st, 2009 and the other stems from January 31st, 2010. He was arrested by the Missouri State Highway Patrol and is being held on a $200,000 cash-only bond. He has a Counsel Setting Hearing set for 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 20th.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving forgery, a fight in progress and an active warrant. On Monday, May 3rd at 12:35 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a forgery.  The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown forged a check for $65.00 and it was cashed in Poplar Bluff. At 7:00 that evening, an officer was detailed to the 100 block of South Jackson in reference to a fight in progress.  The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 19-year old Houston male, a 22-year old Salem female and a 38-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct. They were issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Thursday, May 6th at 1:35 in the afternoon, an officer made contact with a 26-year old male of Montgomery City who had an active city warrant from the City of Salem and an active fugitive warrant from Shannon County.  He was taken into custody on the active warrants without incident. Anyone with any information regarding the forgery, which is still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

An accident occurred on Saturday, May 1st that took the life of a 58 year-old Steelville man. According to the Missouri State Water Patrol, at 4:30 in the afternoon at the Meramec River, Rodney Caudill was attempting to park his vehicle and got too close to the river bank. The riverbank gave way and the vehicle went into the river causing it to flip onto its hood. Caudill was under water for approximately 20-30 minutes before neighbors pulled him out of the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Crawford County Coroner Paul Hutson and was taken to the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville.

Going on this week at the Al Brown Fields is a special gathering called, “Beyond the Walls.” There will be special events tonight through Friday starting at 6:30 and on Saturday, May 15th starting at 4:00 with a Youth Praise. Tonight, Brother Jerry Beers will bring the message with music from the Yadkin Creek Boys; Tuesday, Evangelist Casey Reed will speak with music being provided by the Chandler Brothers; and Wednesday, you can hear testimonies from Aaron Steelman and Scott Schults with the Elmores providing the music. Thursday through Saturday, Evangelist Ted Wiese will bring the message each evening with musical entertainment from the Lesters Thursday night, Crimson Gold on Friday night, and Second Generation and SOS on Saturday. Everyone is welcome to attend! Bring your lawn chairs or blankets.

An accident occurred at 3:05 Saturday afternoon in Crawford County on Hobo Road about three miles from Highway 49. According to the highway patrol report, a 2008 Yamaha ATV driven by 15-year old Brianna English of St. Louis lost control, traveled off the left side of the roadway, and struck a tree. English suffered serious injuries and was taken by Air Evac to St. Louis Children’s Hospital. An occupant on the ATV, 13 year-old Katrina Pyatt of Steelville, suffered minor injuries and was taken by Iron County ambulance to Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan. The Yamaha ATV sustained minor damage and was removed from the scene by a family member. 

The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce May membership meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 12th beginning at 12:00 noon in the Salem TCRC Facility. Dennis Pryor, Administrator of the Salem District Hospital, will give the program. The Salem Baseball Tigers are scheduled to face the Rolla Bullldogs today at 4:30, weather permitting. Salem enters the game with a 5-13 record and has last their last seven straight games. You can hear the contest on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.

Yadier Molina knocked in three runs, while Joe Mather and Ryan Ludwick each had two hits, two runs scored and an RBI, as the Cardinals rolled to an 11-4 drubbing of the Pirates. Adam Wainwright (5-1) was solid through six innings, allowing two runs on five hits to go with two walks and seven strikeouts for St. Louis. The Cards took two of three from the Pirates. St. Louis will have the day off today before hosting Houston on Tuesday.

Max Ramirez drove in the go-ahead run with a double in the fifth, as the Texas Rangers completed a four-game sweep of the Kansas City Royals with a 6-4 victory at Rangers Ballpark. Mike Aviles went 3-for-4 with a solo homer for the Royals, who went 3-8 on the 11 game road tiip.  Mitch Maier had two hits, drove in two runs, and scored once in defeat. Luke Hochevar went just 2 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on three hits with four walks. Brad Thompson (0-2) gave up one run on four hits in two frames of relief to take the loss, the club's fifth straight. The Royals will be off until Tuesday when they host Cleveland.

The Salem Tiger Boys Summer Basketball Camp will he held June 1st thru 4th from 8:00 am to 11:00 am for boys entering 9th through 12 grades and from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm for boys entering 5th through 8th grades. The Salem Tiger Boys Summer Basketball Camp will be held at the Salem High School gym, the cost is $30 per camper and each camper will receive a camp T-shirt. Anyone interested can pickup a form at the Salem JH or call Coach Zenker. The deadline to register is Friday, May 14th.

Funeral services for Thomas Slape of Cuba, age 76, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the BJC Hospice.

Funeral services for Geneva Green of Cherryville, age 90, will be held Tuesday morning at 10:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 today. Interment will be in the Davisville Cemetery in Davisville.

Funeral services for Marilyn Marie Frey of Salem, age 78, will be held Wednesday at the Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka, Missouri. Visitation will be today from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel, and Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Wilson Funeral Home in Kahoka. Interment will be in the Neeper Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Neeper Cemetery.

Funeral services for Wendell D. Craft of Salem, age 83, will be held Wednesday at 10:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral services for Bonnie J. Benson of Licking, age 72, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 am the Church of Christ in Licking. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 at the Fox Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Licking Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Sonshine and Rainbow Day School.

Funeral services for Julia E. Marchi of St. James, age 95, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Rosati. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Interment will be in the St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Rosati. Memorials are suggested to the St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery.

Timothy Sand of Licking, formerly of Oklahoma, age 58, passed away and there will be NO SERVICES. Arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.

A PRIVATE Memorial Service for Carroll Chester Paulsmeyer of Rolla, age 72, will be held at a later date. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary of Rolla.
