The Dent County Spring Festival begins tonight at The Commons off of Highway 72 north of Salem. This year the rides will be provided by Southern Fun Carnival and wristbands are available in advance at the local banks and the Salem News for $13.00. At the fair, wristbands will cost $15.00. Tonight admission to the midway will be $2.00 and you can hear the sounds of the Franklin Street Blues Band on the main stage starting at 7:30. On Friday and Saturday, admission to the midway will be $6.00. Friday night at the grandstand will be a truck and tractor pull starting at 7:00, and on Saturday night at 7:00, a Dent County favorite returns, the demolition derby at the grandstand. Come on out and enjoy the fun during the Dent County Spring Festival going on tonight, Friday and Saturday at The Commons!

U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has approved a loan to Intercounty Electric Cooperative Association to help finance a new medical office building for the Salem Memorial District Hospital would give a big boost to medical care in Dent County. At zero interest, a new medical office building will have the opportunity to get established without a heavy burden of a costly loan repayment schedule. The $740,000 loan is for a ten-year term at zero percent interest. The project will provide expanded healthcare services to 20,000 residents in the area.

The Meramec Regional Planning Commission will conduct their regular monthly meeting tonight beginning at 7:30 PM at the MRPC office located at #4 Industrial Drive in St. James. Chairman Bob Reed will present the consent agenda, which will include contracts, a nomination to the Meramec Regional Development Corporation board, a nomination to the Transportation Advisory Committee, and the External Relations Committee will recommend a slate of officers for MRPC and will also recommend appointments for certain at-large positions. Amy McMillen will report on grants submitted and funded since the last meeting along with application deadlines and funding availability. Tammy Snodgrass will report on solid waste activities and will also report on the Homeland Security Oversight Committee meeting. Kraig Bone will report on the April 23^rd MREPC meeting, Tom Klebba will report on loan activities, and Donald Dodd will report on the Transportation Advisory Committee meeting. T.R. Dudley will report on workforce development activities and Executive Director Richard Cavender will report on the current activities of the MRPC in his report. The regular monthly meeting the Meramec Regional Planning Commission is open to the public.

The Salem Baseball Tigers regular season comes to an end today as they host Iberia starting at 5:00 at the Salem High School Baseball Field Complex. Salem enters the game with an 11-6 record. Salem will be playing Saturday at 4:30 in District Action against Union. Salem is seeded third in the tournament. You can hear the game son KSMO Radio and online at www.ksmoradio.com.

Adam Wainwright threw six innings and Scott Spiezio knocked in two runs as the St. Louis Cardinals earned a 9-2 win over the Colorado Rockies in the finale of a three-game set at Busch Stadium. Aaron Miles had three hits, an RBI and a run scored for the Cardinals, who have won three of their last four games. Wainwright (3-2) gave up two runs, one earned, and nine hits. He struck out four and walked none. The Cardinals had totaled just 16 runs in their previous eight games and they scored first for just the eighth time this season. The Cardinals will have the day off today as they head to the west coast.

Mike Sweeney's solo home run in the eighth proved to be the game winner as the Kansas City Royals downed the Oakland Athletics, 3-2, in game two of a three-game series at Kauffman Stadium. Joakim Soria closed out the ninth inning to pick up his sixth save of the season. Mark Teahen went 2-for-3 with a run scored and Billy Butler and Shane Costa each drove in a run for the Royals, who snapped a four-game skid. Gil Meche started on the mound as was charged with just two runs -- one earned -- on three hits with four walks and seven strikeouts in six innings of work. Jimmy Gobble (1-1) got the win for pitching a scoreless eighth. The two teams play again today.

The Kansas City Royals will get a pitcher back as Luke Hudson is expected to come off the disabled list. Hudson, who has been suffering from shoulder stiffness since spring training, is expected to start Thursday's game against Oakland.  He made four rehab starts with Triple-A Omaha and Double-A Wichita, going 0-2 with a 4.41 earned-run average in 16 1/3 innings. Brian Bannister, who was supposed to start on Thursday, will be optioned to Omaha.

Funeral services for Eunice Alberta Robnett of West Plains, formerly of Alton, age 90, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the Clary Chapel. Visitation will be held this evening from 6:00 to 8:00. Graveside services will be in the Dry Fork Cemetery near Salem Friday at 3:00.

Funeral services for Marjorie A. Humes of Newburg, age 67, will be Friday morning at 11:00 at the Primitive Baptist Church in Flat. Visitation is tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Smith Cemetery in Edgar Springs.

A memorial service for Charles R. Cox of Salem, age 67, will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 at Wilson Mortuary.
