The Salem Upper Elementary School will be the place to be today for Serendipity 2013 entitled, “Music Rocks”. The Salem Police Department will demonstrate equipment and their dog in “Treble Makers”, the SHS Basketball Team can help you perfect your skills, learn plays with “Beyonce and Shoot.” Come out and create beautiful music playing a variety of instruments with SHS Band as “The Saints Go Marching On”, and then “Hip, Hop, Kick” with the SHS Cheerleaders. The High School Drama Club will help you be an actor or clown in the “Falsetto Studio”, play baseball with the SHS Baseball Team with the “Perfect Pitch”. Take a tour of an ambulance, take a mini CPR course and learn first aid at the “Synco-patient Rest Stop” with the Salem Memorial District Hospital and march and dance with flags with the SHS Flag Corp with “Chromatic Flair.” Also learn about the working parts of a fire truck from the Salem Fire Department in “Great Balls of Fire.” All this and a whole lot more at “Music Rocks”, Serendipity.
The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Tuesday, April 30th at 5:22 in the morning, an officer was sent to a residence in the 700 block of West Acuff in reference to a stolen vehicle. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a blue 1992 Chevrolet S-10 truck valued at $1,000. The vehicle was located near Missouri and Third Streets in the wooded area on the east side of the Salem Junior High School. At 5:31 that same morning, an officer was detailed to the Common Grounds Café located in the 300 block of South Highway 19 in reference to a burglary. That investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown forced entry into the building and took items valued at $26.00. Then at 6:25 that same morning, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of North Walker in reference to a theft from a vehicle. That investigation revealed someone unknown broke the side glass of a truck out causing $300.00 in damages and also took a Remington 870 shotgun valued at $200.00. Just moments later at 6:30, an officer while on patrol noticed a broken window on a white Chrysler Town and Country van parked in the 1100 block of West Center. After contacting the owner it was discovered the damage had occurred sometime in the night. The value of the damage is approximately $200.00. That evening at 5:23 pm, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 800 block of East Third in reference to property damage. The investigation of the report revealed that a 41-year old Salem male, while involved in a dispute, attempted to take the keys from a vehicle and broke the key off in the ignition. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was issued a summons to appear in court and was incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. Anyone with any information regarding the stolen vehicle, burglary or property damage reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.
Missouri State Parks invites you to experience an early 1900s picnic at the annual Old Dillard Town Picnic on Saturday, May 11th at Dillard Mill State Historic Site near Davisville. The event will begin at 10 am and will be followed by an informational meeting at 4. With the red, water-powered gristmill, the clear Huzzah Creek as a backdrop and bluegrass music played by Red Bridge filling the air, guests will truly feel as if they have stepped back in time at this annual picnic. Strongman Steve Schmidt will be displaying his super-human strength and old-time crafters will be demonstrating their skills and selling wares. Food and beverages will be available for purchase. The first floor of the mill will be open with staff available to answer questions. Dillard Mill is one of Missouri’s best-preserved examples of a water-powered gristmill. The mill, which has been restored to operational order, was built around 1900 and continued to grind grain until the 1960s. The public is then invited to bring their ideas to an informational meeting that will begin at 4 pm at the mill. Representatives from the historic site will be on hand to provide information about the facility and to answer questions. Agenda items will include an update regarding the facility,planned improvements at the site and a recap of the year’s accomplishments. Additional topics to be discussed will include a new roof on the Old Mill Lodge, repairs to the office and the installation of Americans with Disabilities Act compliant drinking fountains. The informational meeting is part of an ongoing effort by Missouri State Parks to ensure the public has input on services and facilities offered in state parks and historic sites. People requiring special services or accommodations to attend the meeting can make arrangements by calling the site at 573-244-3120. Dillard Mill State Historic Site is located five miles West of Viburnum and one mile South of Dillard, off Highway 49 in Crawford County.

The Salem Baseball Tigers will travel to Rolla today to face the Bulldogs in the last regular season game of the year. Game time is set for 4:30. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com, and watch the game on fidelitylocal6.com.
Slava Voynov scored the winner eight minutes into overtime as the Los Angeles Kings took a 3-2 win over the St. Louis Blues in Game 5 of this Western Conference quarterfinal series. Alexander Steen and Alex Pietrangelo each posted a goal for the Blues, who got 22 stops from Brian Elliott. The Kings lead the series 3-2 and Game 6 will be held Friday night.
Jon Jay's tie-breaking RBI single in the eighth inning proved to be the difference in the St. Louis Cardinals' 5-4 victory over the Chicago Cubs in the finale of a two-game series at Wrigley Field. Carlos Beltran had three hits and drove in two runs and Jay also finished with two RBI for the Cardinals, winners in seven of their last eight. Seth Maness (2-0) picked up the win with 1 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of starter Jake Westbrook, allowing just one hit. The Cardinals have the day off today.
J.J. Hardy hit a two-run home run to lead the Baltimore Orioles in a 5-3 win over the Kansas City Royals in the second of three from Camden Yards. Mike Moustakas went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run for the Royals, who have dropped their past three. Luis Mendoza (0-2) gave up five runs, three earned, on five hits with three walks in six innings to take the loss. The Royals and Orioles play again tonight.

Funeral services for Joy King of Salem, age 50, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 this evening. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Funeral services for Lloyd Edmond Boyd, formerly of Jefferson City and Salem, age 94, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 with a Masonic Service at 7:00 pm. Interment will be in the Mt Hermon Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the Mt Hermon Cemetery Board or the Thompson Center for Autism and Neuro-developmental Disorders in Columbia.
