The Salem Police Department released their report for the month of April. During the month, they wrote one equipment repair order, 14 summons to appear in court, nine warning tickets, and 20 traffic tickets. The Salem Police Department investigated nine accidents, two assaults, one burglary, one report of disorderly conduct, two reports of domestic assaults, four reports of domestic violence, two reports of driving while intoxicated, one report of driving while revoked, one report of endangering the welfare of a child, two reports of forgery, one report of fraudulent use of a credit/debit card, one report of leaving the scene of an accident, and two reports of a lost/stolen license plate. The department also investigated one report of property damage, one report of resisting/ interfering with an arrest, 14 reports of stealing, one report of tampering, one report of trespassing, and one report of unlawful use of a weapon. They also investigated two reports of possession of amphetamine, one report of possession of benzodazephine, one report of possession of marijuana, four reports of possession or drug paraphernalia and one report of possession of synthetic drugs. The police department received 1,608 calls for service during the month, handled 135 walk-ins to the station, and redirected 62 calls to the animal control officer. They spent 16 hours in court testifying, four hours as court bailiff and spent 30 hours teaching D.A.R.E. The calls in April included 22 calls for escorts, one call for an intoxicated driver, seven calls for a suspicious person and/or vehicle, two intoxicated pedestrian calls, seven calls for domestic disputes, and seven calls for a wrecker. There were nine 911 calls, five calls for peace disturbances, six calls for alarms sounding, two calls for fights in progress, six ambulance assist calls, three fire calls and one call for property damage. The Salem Police Department drove a total of 7,325 miles and arrested 17 males and 8 females during the month of April.
An accident occurred at 5:45 Tuesday evening in Reynolds County on County Road 900 in Bunker. According to the highway patrol report, 36-year old Dorris Lee of Bunker was driving a 2004 Ford when the vehicle ran off the roadway and overturned. Two occupants, 13-year old Marrissa Parmer of Centerville and 11-year old Brooke Sullivan-Burton of Bunker, suffered minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. Another occupant, 30-year old Tasha Lee of Bunker, suffered minor injuries and was taken by Air Evac to the Mercy Hospital in Cape Girardeau. No one involved in the accident was wearing a seat restraint.
An accident occurred Monday evening at 5:05 pm in Texas County on Highway 32 one mile west of Licking. According to the highway patrol report, a 2012 Special 3-wheeler driven by 53-year old Patrick Ray of Roby was traveling westbound on highway 32 and had the left tire and wheel come off of the vehicle. Ray lost control, ran off the left side of the roadway and struck an embankment. Ray suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. He was not wearing a safety device at the time of the accident.
The monthly meeting of the Ozark Rivers Audubon Chapter is pleased to have a presentation by Mark H.X. Glenshaw of Forest Park Owls, this Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in Eugene Northern Hall at 400 West 4th Street in Rolla They welcome all ages and you need not be a member to enjoy this talk! Mark will give a 30 to 40 minute presentation called, ”Forest Park Owls: Hiding In Plain Sight,” will cover how he found these owls, basic facts about the species, and the different behaviors he has been able to see and document with photos and videos.
The Senior Citizen's Trout Fishing Tournament on May 9th is a trout tournament that is open to any man or woman 60 years of age or older. Two classes will be designated, fly or bait. Two prizes will be awarded to the winners in each class for heaviest trout and heaviest stringer of trout. Registration for the tournament will be at the Dorman L. Steelman Lodge in the Montauk State Park. Tournament hours are 6:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. For more information, call 548-2201.

The Salem Tiger baseball game with Licking, rescheduled for today in Salem, has been postponed due to the Wildcats having to make up a conference game. This game will not be rescheduled. Salem’s next game will be on Thursday against the Rolla Bulldogs at 4:30. The Tigers will then begin district play, where they have been seeded 2nd. Salem will play Monday at 1:30 against the winner of Owensville/ Eldon.
The Salem Tiger Tennis team defeated Licking, 9-0, in the semifinals of the district tournament. The Tigers will now face Richland for the district championship on Thursday at the city park.
The Salem Tiger 8th grade basketball girls took home the championship Sunday in the Rolla league as they finished with a 10-0 record for April. The team consisted of Payton Curley, Kari Hatridge, Kaleigh Nash, Shelby Carr, Chey Sercl, Baylee Bilyeu, and Camryn Pryor. Brad Pryor is the head coach of the Salem Tigers Girls Basketball 8th grade team.
The Salem High School Spring Sports Banquet will be held tonight at 6:30 at the Salem High School Cafeteria. Members of the track team, tennis team, golf team and baseball team will be honored.
Nate Schierholtz hit a two-run homer to lead the Chicago Cubs to a 2-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday. Allen Craig smacked his second homer of the season for the Cardinals' lone run. Lance Lynn (5-1) was saddled with the loss after giving up two runs on four hits while striking out eight over seven frames. The Cardinals and Cubs play again this afternoon at 12:45 and you can hear it on KSMO.
Matt Wieters' RBI double in the eighth inning lifted the Baltimore Orioles over the Kansas City Royals, 4-3, in the opener of a three-game series. Alex Gordon hit a two-run homer for the Royals, who have dropped two straight since winning four in a row. Alcides Escobar added an RBI. Ervin Santana got the start for Kansas City and gave up three runs on seven hits over six innings. Tim Collins (1-1) allowed one unearned run over 1 1/3 innings of relief to take the loss. The Royals and Orioles play again tonight.
The St. Louis Blues will play the L.A. Kings in Game 5 of their Western Conference quarterfinal series tonight. The series is tied 2-2 and you can hear it on KSMO Radio at 7:30.

Funeral services for Joy King of Salem, age 50, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 Thursday evening. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Funeral services for Lloyd Edmond Boyd, formerly of Jefferson City and Salem, age 94, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 with a Masonic Service at 7:00 pm. Interment will be in the Mt Hermon Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the Mt Hermon Cemetery Board or the Thompson Center for Autism and Neuro-developmental Disorders in Columbia.
