Class B felony charges of robbery in the second degree have been filed against 28-year old David J. Sutton Jr., of Salem and 27-year old Donald J. Cramer, of Salem in connection with the Gas Plus robbery at McArthur and Rolla Road back on April 30th. Sutton is being held on $100,000 cash only bond and Cramer is being held on $75,000 cash only bond. The amount of money taken is still unknown and none of the money taken has been found. The gas attendant’s wallet with cash was taken.
The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2430 and 4220 while rock would be added and grading would be done on Dent County Road 2400. Purcell stated that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 8485 and 6510, and that a worker would be screening brown rock at the shed. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2045 and 4020 while materials would be added and grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2020 and 4330. He went on to say that materials would be added to Dent County Road 2025. Larson said that Thursday morning he is scheduled to meet Nick Girondo from the Missouri Department of Conservation at the bridge on Dent County Road 3210. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that the bill to amend the county budget is being loaded down with additions and has not yet been passed. He also said that the local sales tax “fix” by the legislature has run into a snag as Governor Jay Nixon said that he would veto the measure if passed. Skiles stated that a meeting was held Monday afternoon at the Extension Office with Interop-Solutions, LLC and a number of emergency responders to update them on the progress of the new communication process. Skiles indicated that he would be presiding at a PHA meeting today in St. James and then attend the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management Executive Board meeting. The Commission then agreed to allow John Beger of Phelps County to represent the Dent County Clerk’s office in a challenge to the election results for the Rolla School Board. County Clerk Angie Curley said that no votes were cast in Dent County for the Rolla School Board although there are a few residents in Dent County that could have voted in that election. Dent County Surveyor Craig Ruble brought in a County Surveyor Plat Book that will be put in the Dent County Recorder’s office. He said that the books are $275 each and each page cost just over $15.00 per sheet. They are still working on more plat books, and asked the commission for another book and at least 75 sheets. If the county buys 100 sheets or more, the price goes down to $13.50 each sheet. A total of $5,000 was budgeted for the re-monumentation of corners and DNR will pay half of that which leaves $2,500. The total cost to order the plat books and sheets will be between $1,446 and about $1,700 each depending if they order 100 sheets or more. County Clerk Angie Curley will see if the county pays only half of that cost to re-monument the corners or gets reimbursed. Thom Haines from the US Forest Service came in and told the commissioners that the biological
evaluation for the Swiney Sinkin Creek Bridge has been approved and all is well to proceed with the bridge. Bids will be published in the Salem News on May 15th for the project. Dennis Brady from MoDOT called the commission and told them that Route H in Dent County would be closed May 14th starting at 7:00 in the morning. Commissioner Skiles also wanted to remind everyone that the courthouse would be closed today for Truman’s Birthday. The next meeting of the Dent County Commission will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol has released several arrest reports. On Monday, April 30th at 8:35 in the evening, 45-year old Donna Shoults of Salem was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, invalid registration, and no insurance. She was taken to the Dent County Jail and later released. On Tuesday, May 1st at 5:21 in the evening, 28-year old Joseph Easter of Salem was arrested on a felony Dent County warrant for stealing. He was taken to the Dent County Jail and held on bond. Later that evening at 7:15, 21-year Andrea Hodges and 26-year old Jimmy Bratcher, both of Salem, were arrested on felony Dent County warrants for possession of a controlled substance. They were taken to the Dent County Jail and held on bond. Later on the night at 11:02, 48-Year old Anthony Black of Edgar Springs was arrested and charged with felony driving while intoxicated, failure to dim headlights, and no seat belt. He was taken to the Phelps County Jail and was later released. On Saturday, May 5th at 9:25 in the evening, 34-year old Gary Jordan of Viburnum was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, no seatbelt, and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway. He was taken to the Dent County Jail and was later released. On Sunday, May 6th at 2:27 in the early morning, 21-year old Sarah Hoodenpyle of Salem was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and failure to drive on the right half of the roadway. She was taken to the Dent County Jail and was later released.
The City of Salem will continue SPRING CLEAN UP through Friday, May 11th. This is a great time to put out your extra-unwanted items and excess trash on your regular pickup day. REMEMBER, no tires, no electronics or hazardous waste material such as motor oil or car batteries at this time. SPRING CLEAN UP through May 11th is for City of Salem residents only.
Postal carriers across the country in partnership with the US Postal Service will be collecting food items for local food pantries this Saturday during their normal rounds. This is the 19th year that Salem postal carriers have participated in the “Stamp Out Hunger” and the 20th year overall for the program which has collected over one billion tons of non-perishable food items nationwide. The postal carriers ask that you donate items like canned meats, fish, soup, juice, vegetables, pasta, cereal and rice and place them in a grocery bag or box if possible. Please do not include items that are expired or that are in glass containers. Your participation is greatly appreciated!

The 2012 Salem High School Spring Athletic Banquet will be held Wednesday, May 9th at 6:30 p.m. at the high school cafeteria. Varsity and junior varsity members of baseball, track, tennis, golf, and their parents are invited to attend a night of recognition.
Five Cardinals banged solo home runs and Lance Lynn became the first pitcher to reach six wins as St. Louis topped the Arizona Diamondbacks, 9-6, in the opener of a three-game set at Chase Field. David Freese ripped an RBI double and a solo homer, while Carlos Beltran, Matt Holliday, Rafael Furcal and Allen Craig also hit solo shots for the Cardinals. Lynn (6-0) gave up three hits and four walks in five scoreless innings while racking up seven punchouts. The Cards and Diamondbacks play again tonight and you can hear it on KSMO at 8:05.
Will Middlebrooks hit three-run and two-run home runs as Boston pounded Kansas City, 11-5, in the opener of a three-game set. Alex Gordon had two hits and an RBI while Jarrod Dyson added three hits and scored a run for the Royals, who have lost their past two. Jonathan Sanchez (1-2) didn't make it out of the fourth inning as he was tagged for six runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts. The Royals and Red Sox play again tonight.

Funeral services for Lowell M. Wisdom of Bunker, age 89, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Crossville Cemetery in Bunker. Memorials may be made to the Wisdom family for funeral expenses.
