The Dent County Commissioners regular meeting was held Monday at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell indicated that District 1 received between 2-3 inches of rain between Thursday and Sunday and road crews will be out checking for washouts, downed trees, checking bridges and also checking the creek road to get to the creek where the county gets their rock. He stated that materials will be added to Dent County Road 6230 and that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 6210. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that workers in his district would be doing a lot of maintenance such as putting rotors on truck #72, putting a water pump on truck #68 and putting tires on truck #114. He also said that workers would be out checking roads for damages and washouts. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that legislation to a amend the county budget statute that would allow counties to reduce their budget due to reduced revenues, has an excellent chance to make it through. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley stated that absentee voting continues at the courthouse, and that the last day to register to vote for the special June election will be Wednesday. Postmarked applications will be accepted, as the courthouse will be closed for Truman’s Birthday on Wednesday. You can also register in her office today during normal business hours. Curley also said that she and the treasurer balanced on all accounts, and the treasurer and collector balance on all add-ons, abatements and monthly collections. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Board of Aldermen held their regular meeting at the City Hall Auditorium Monday night. In the hearing of persons, Wanda Parks, representing Ray Golhoffer, talked to the board about the city taking over the water and sewer lines on the property northeast of the Ranch Motel off Missouri Avenue. The current sewer and water lines do meet city requirements and with building expected in the area, the city would naturally absorb that new construction into the city sewer system. The proposed development of the property still has to go to the Planning and Zoning Commission. Also to be heard was Charlotte White about Phinnias the dog who has been deemed vicious by the city. She said that the two families that were involved have reached an agreement and she asked that the city go along with the two families. She said it was not certain that the dog was attacking the child or actually trying to save the child. Patrick Sanders stated that the police report on the incident was faulty as there was only one bite, not three, and he said that the ruling on Phinnius was based on evidence that does not support the decision. He also stated that he has made arrangements if they get the dog back to have the dog taken out of the city limits and they will never hear from him again. City Attorney William Camm Seay said that neither the mayor or the board of aldermen have any comment on the matter. City Administrator Clayton Lucas said that the house on South McArthur has now been removed. He also set two budget meetings for the annual budget: Thursday May 30^th at 1:00 and Tuesday, June 11^th at 6:00. Alderman Kenny Nash asked about the possibility of allowing the shooting range to be available to the public. Lucas said that raised liability issues at this time with the insurance company and Attorney Seay said that the use of the firing range should strictly be for law enforcement. Mayor Gary Brown said that during the two weeks of the city-wide cleanup that 103 tons of trash were collected by Waste Corporation. The board approved to install signage to eliminate parking on the north side of Franklin between Park Street and Missouri Avenue due to the width of the road. An ordinance to that effect will be on the next agenda. The board also voted 3-1 to eliminate the individual alderman reports from the agenda. Alderman Phillip Giacomelli explained that items of interest should be brought immediately by the alderman to the city administrator or the mayor rather than wait to bring them up at a alderman meeting which could cause as much as a three week delay. The board then went into closed session.

The 8th grade track girls broke a 13-year old record at the SCA track meet in Willow Springs. The 4x2 girls ran a 1.59. That team consisted of Payton Curley, Allie Fleener, Savannah Decker and Kirsten Strebe. Congratulations ladies!!!

The Salem Tiger Baseball game with Steelville was postponed due to wet grounds and will not be rescheduled. Also, the Salem Tigers rescheduled game with Licking in Salem on Wednesday has been postponed due to the Wildcats having to make up a conference game. This game also will not be rescheduled.

The Salem High School Spring Sports Banquet will be held this Wednesday at 6:30 at the Salem High School Cafeteria. Members of the track team, tennis team, golf team and baseball team will be honored.

Justin Williams scored the winner in the third period to give the Los Angeles Kings a 4-3 win over the St. Louis Blues in Game 4 of this Western Conference quarterfinal series. T.J. Oshie had two goals for the Blues. The Series is tied 2-2 and Game 5 of this best-of-seven series takes place Wednesday.

The St. Louis Cardinals had the day off yesterday but will start a two-game series with the Chicago Cubs tonight. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio at 6:30.

Jordan Danks solo shot in the 11^th gave the Chicago White Sox the go-ahead run in their 2-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Monday. Billy Butler drove in the lone run in the first inning for Kansas City, who will start a series with the Baltimore Orioles tonight.

Patricia Ann Stacey of Salem, age 92, donated her body to science, there will be no service. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Dorothy Jean Glenn of Rolla, age 83, will be held this morning day at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Ozark Hills Memorial Gardens in Rolla. Memorials may be made to First Freewill Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Joy King of Salem, age 50, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 Thursday evening. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Lloyd Edmond Boyd, formerly of Jefferson City and Salem, age 94, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 with a Masonic Service at 7:00 pm. Interment will be in the Mt Hermon Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the Mt Hermon Cemetery Board or the Thompson Center for Autism and Neuro-developmental Disorders in Columbia.
