The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles was not in attendance so Commissioner Gary Larson acted as the chairman. At the meeting, Bernie English gave the commission some information about the bio-mass process that the city is looking at to generate electricity. Jerry Craig was at the meeting to make a request on behalf of the Salem Area Community Betterment Association. He said that he knows the county agreed to allow the gazebo on the courthouse lawn from June 15^th through August 15^th, but he is asking that it be allowed to be placed on the lawn for Memorial Day. He said that the people providing the gazebo would need about a two-week notice to bring it in and set it up. The commissioners decided to postpone making any decision until all the commissioners could be in attendance on Monday since there was time. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 5600, 6010 and 6580, and rock was going to be added to Dent County Road 4160. He said that ditch work was going to be done and rock would be added to Dent County Road 6430, and a culvert was going to be installed on Dent County Road 4210 before rock would be added and the road would be graded. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that driveway pipes were going to be installed on Dent County Road 3235 and 2240. He said that county road 2240 would also have rock added to it and would then be graded. Larson went on to say county truck 116 is being serviced. The Dent County Courthouse will be closed today in honor of Truman’s birthday which is recognized as a state holiday. At the last meeting, City of Salem Economic Development Director Sharon Tubbs made three recommendations to the Enterprise Zone Board. The recommendations were for James Coffman to serve through 2014, Kevin Prugh to serve until 2014, and Cindy Rumpf to serve through 2011 and the commissioners approved all three recommendations. The commission also discussed remodeling the Road and Bridge Shed. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 at the Dent County Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

All 4-H Camp registrations are due by Monday, May 10^th. Registration is complete when the following items are returned to the County Extension Office; one registration form per person attending, whether adult or youth; a health form; a technology agreement and a check made payable to Dent County 4-H Council for the amount of the fees. Camp counselors at the last camp registration, you filled out forms that were for Counselor Camp. You need to fill out these forms as well and turn in by Monday.  Your camp fee is $85, with the 4-H Council taking care of the balance. There is a separate form for Family or First Timer’s Camp. Even though it is listed on the form, the Shooting Sports Camp has been cancelled. For more information call 729-3196.

The United States Attorney’s Office announced that eight people have been indicted on methamphetamine related charges involving their alleged activities between February 2008 to April 2010, in Phelps County. They appeared in federal court on Thursday. The individuals indicted from Rolla were 41-year old Jerry Cook and 26-year olds Amanda Housel and Karen Cook. Those from St. James were 29-year old Amy Loepke, 23-year old Brandon Proffer, 38- year old Matt Shockley, and 40-year old Brenda L. Bonney. The single individual indicted from Steelville was 30-year old Mathew Garms. Each defendant was indicted by a federal grand jury on one felony count of conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine and possession of pseudoephedrine with the intent to manufacture methamphetamine. This case was investigated by the South Central Drug Task Force, Rolla Police Department, Phelps County Sheriff's Department, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
