The Salem Baseball Tigers game Friday with West Plains was cancelled due to the wet grounds and will not be made up. The game on Thursday against Sullivan that was rained out will also not be made up. The Tigers will travel to Rolla today to face the Bulldogs at 4:30 and you can hear that game on KSMO Radio or online at www.ksmoradio.com. Salem is 11-5 on the year.
Scott Rolen drove in two runs during a three- run fourth inning and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Houston Astros, 3-1, at Busch Stadium. Rolen ended 1-for-3, breaking a 0-for-23 slump, and Adam Kennedy went 3- for-4 for the Cardinals. St. Louis starter Braden Looper (4-2) earned his first win since April 20, allowing one run on six hits, striking out three and walking two, over six innings. This was the first home series win this season for the Cardinals. The Cardinals will be back in action tonight as they will host Colorado at 7:00 on KSMO Radio.
Prior to the game, the St. Louis Cardinals placed outfielder Preston Wilson on the 15-day disabled list with soreness in his right knee.To replace Wilson on the active roster the Cardinals purchased the contract of Ryan Ludwick from Triple-A Memphis. St. Louis also purchased the contract of pitcher Brian Falkenborg from Triple-A Memphis and optioned pitcher Dennis Dove to Memphis. On Friday, the Cardinals announced the pitcher Chris Carpenter would undergo surgery on his right elbow and be lost at least three months.
Craig Monroe went 3-for-5 with a home run, three runs scored and four runs batted in, as the Detroit Tigers defeated the Kansas City Royals, 13-4, sweeping the three-game series at Kauffman Stadium. Zack Greinke (1-4) allowed six runs on nine hits, while striking out one. He gave up three home runs and didn't walk a batter for Kansas City, which has lost four of its last six. Ross Gload was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored in defeat for the Royals. Kansas City will start a three-game home series versus the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday.

Funeral services for Virginia Carney of Steelville, age 87, will be held on Wednesday at 10:00 at St. Michaels Church in Steelville. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3:00-8:00 at Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.
Funeral services for Toney B. Hodges of Eminence, age 86, will be held on Thursday morning at 11:00 at James & Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.
A memorial service for Violet Irene Lampley of Salem, age 85, will be held at a later date. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary.
