The Dent County Commissioners met Monday morning for their regular meeting at the courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading would be done and materials would be added to Dent County Roads 5100, 5103, 5105, 6220 and 6580. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson stated grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2570, 4050, 4055, 4350 and 4353; and materials would be added to county roads 2500 and 2540. Larson did say that a man would be screening brown rock if they can find the leak in the tire of loader. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles indicated that he would be attending an Ozark River Solid Waste Management District Executive Board meeting today to discuss the 2015 budget and grant issues. Skiles reported that he and Commissioners Larson and Purcell, along with members of the Dent County IDA Board and Salem City Administrator Ray Walden met with US Food officials last Thursday afternoon to discuss what Salem and Dent County offer the company. The US Foods officials stated the Salem facility has continually been one of their facilities with the highest productivity, while transportation continues to be an issue especially in getting to southeast Missouri efficiently. The merger between US Foods and Sisco has not yet been approved by the SEC and probably won’t be until late summer or September. Skiles also said the Dent County Courthouse would be closed Thursday for Truman’s Birthday, so the next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners would be Monday, May 12^th at 9:00 at the courthouse and that meeting will be open to the public.

U.S. Senator Roy Blunt’s staff will host a Mobile Office on Wednesday, May 7^th, from 11:00 a.m. to noon at the Dent County Courthouse. Mobile Offices are opportunities for Missourians to discuss their questions or concerns with the federal government one-on-one with a member of Senator Blunt’s staff. Senator Blunt’s Jefferson City office also extends one-on-one service to all Missourians who have an issue with a federal agency or need additional assistance. The Salem Board of Aldermen met for their regular meting Monday night at Council Chambers. At the meeting, the board approved the bid for a Kubota Mower for the cemetery from Schaeperkoetter Sales and Service in Owensville for $14,294.63 that includes shipping and set up. They also approved the bid for a commercial no-turn Kubota Mower from Wayde’s Equipment in Steelville for the park for $12,155. City Administrator Ray Walden said he and a number of others including Jeff Meadows from Archer Engineering, Jack Emory from the city water department and others met with officials from US Foods in a very cordial meeting. He said the merger between US Foods and Sisco will happen in the third quarter and at that time, officials will review the warehouse inventory and areas that are served by the new company. Walden also said that he, Emory and Jeff Meadows would be going to meet with DNR on Wednesday to clarify what the city needs to do for their new permit. Walden said the citywide yard sale was well attended this year with fantastic weather. Mayor J.J. Tune said that the McArthur project looks to be moving along just fine in his discussion with Jeff Meadows, and the city will have to budget now to pay for the new requirements for the water treatment plant in the future. He also felt the city should have a welcome packet for new residents that tells them of the city policies concerning the pickup of grass clipping, branches, etc. The board approved Resolution #5-2014 that allows the mayor to execute an agreement between the city and Premier Pyrotechnics for the Independence Day Celebration. Mayor J.J. Tune then appointed boards and committees, and a list of names for openings on the airport board were given to City Clerk Mary Happel to contact to see if they would be interested in serving. Mayor Tune requested the aldermen approve a period after the meeting for citizens to be able to address the board, but the request was voted down 4-0 until the aldermen can investigate how this works in cities where this type of policy is allowed. The board then went into closed session to discuss the contract to employ Ray Walden as City Administrator.

The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors will conduct their meeting tonight at 6:00 at 2 South Main Street. After approval of the consent agenda and review of the minutes from the previous meeting, the board will review the financial report and approve bills. Before review old and new business, the board will also review the calendar and give the monthly reimbursement report. The board will then review reports and set the next meeting for June 3^rd. The Board will then go into closed session. This meeting is open to the public.

Jake Conway threw a complete game five-hitter allowing just one run and striking out nine, plus he slugged the go-ahead home run in the 5^th inning and added another RBI in the 6^th inning as Salem beat the Northwest Lions, 7-1. Kyle Lea had two doubles with an RBI and Triston DuBois led the game off with his first varsity home run. Salem improved to 7-10 on the year and they will be in Mountain Grove for a makeup SCA game today at 4:30. You can hear the game on KSMO and online at ksmoradio.com. Salem is 1-4 in the SCA Conference.

The Salem Tennis team beat Richland on Monday, 7-2, bringing their record to 7-3 on the year. They will host Osage today a 4:30 in their final regular season match. The Salem Track team will be in Steelville at 4:00 this afternoon for a track meet.

Matt Carpenter hit a two-run double and Shelby Miller pitched five-plus innings to help the St. Louis Cardinals hang on for a 4-3 win over the Atlanta Braves to open a three-game set. Miller (4-2) was touched for two runs on six hits with a pair of walks and five strikeouts for the Cardinals, who will play the Braves again tonight and you can hear it on KSMO starting at 5:35.

Jedd Gyorko's ninth-inning homer forced extras and Will Venable's two-run double in the 12th helped the San Diego Padres take the opener of this three-game set with a 6-5 win over the Kansas City Royals. The Royals and Padres play again tonight at 9:10.

Funeral services for Dormalee Morrison of Union, age 73, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be today from 4:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Sellers Cemetery in Dillard.

Funeral services for Jeremy (JD) Bunton of Salem, age 33, will be held Thursday at 2:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the Asher Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Bunton family for funeral expenses.

Funeral services for Steven Ernest Broyles of Salem, age 67, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held Friday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Project Win.

There will be no funeral services for Darrel M. Blevins of Salem, age 75. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Martha L. Paulsen of Sun City Center, Florida, formerly of Salem, age 68, will be held Wednesday, May 14^th 3:00 pm at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 2:00 until service time. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.
