An accident occurred at 9:50 Saturday morning on Highway 32 West about a mile from Salem that took the life of a Salem woman. According to the Highway Patrol report 50-year-old Joy E. King, driving a 1995 Cadillac Deville, ran off the roadway at a high rate of speed, struck a curb and then a parked semi-trailer, and caught fire. Dent County Deputy Coroner Benjamin Pursifull pronounced King dead at the scene and the body was taken to the Dent County Memorial Chapel. According to the report King was wearing a seat restraint when the accident occurred and the air bags were deployed. The Cadillac was totaled and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing.
ihe Salem Police Department released their reports of stolen checks and forgery, theft and theft of fuel. On Thursday, April 25th at 8:00 in the evening, a 23-year old female of Salem was taken into custody on an active arrest warrant from Dent County while officers were conducting a search warrant at a room at the Walnut Motel. She was incarcerated at Dent County Jail. On Saturday, April 27th at 8:16 in the evening, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 300 block of East Third in reference to a domestic dispute. The investigation of the report revealed that a 29-year old male of Salem had assaulted a 21-year old female of Salem. Further investigation led to his arrest and he was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On Sunday, April 28th at 12:55 in the morning, an officer made contact with a 19-year old female of Salem who had an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem at the Salem Police Department. She was taken into custody on the warrant and later released with a court date after posting bond. At 8:00 that same evening, an officer was called at the Salem Police Department in reference to stolen checks and forgery. That investigation revealed that person or persons unknown stole three checks, forged them and cashed them for $1100.00 at Country Mart and Town and Country Bank. On Monday, April 29th at 8:58 in the morning, an officer was detailed to Casey’s General Store located on Macarthur in reference to a theft of fuel. The investigation of the report revealed that a 29-year old male of Salem pumped $25.04 in fuel and left without paying. That evening at 6:35, officer was sent to a residence in the 400 block of West Roosevelt in reference to a theft. That investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown took a pink Huffy 20” bicycle valued at $80.00 from the yard of a residence. Anyone with information regarding the stolen checks and forgery and thefts is asked to contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.
The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct a meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 7:00 pm. During the hearing of persons, Wanda Parks, representing Ray Gollhofer, is requesting that the City take over the water and sewer lines that are located on the Gollhofer property northeast of the Ranch Motel. A number of people will also be in attendance to speak on behalf of Phinias the dog, a golden retriever that the city has deemed vicious due to a biting incident. City Administrator Clayton Lucas will then update the Board on various items concerning city business before Alderman Haydn Powell, Kenneth Nash, Phillip Giacomelli and Ryan Whitaker give their reports. City of Salem Mayor, Gary Brown will follow with his report. During new and miscellaneous business, it had been requested that there be “No Parking” on the north side of Franklin, between Park Street and Missouri Avenue, due to the width of the street. That will be discussed. Also requested was to have an open discussion about the alderman reports that are on the agenda each meeting. The Board will then vote to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing personnel, litigation and contracts. The meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.

The Salem Baseball Tigers will be at Steelville today at 4:30, weather permitting. Salem enters the game with an 11-6 record. If played, you can hear the game on KSMO radio and online at ksmoradio.com. (GAME CANCELLED AND WILL NOT BE MADE UP)
The Salem Baseball Tigers have been seeded 2nd in district play that begins on Saturday, May 11th. Salem, with a bye in the first round, won’t play until Monday, May 13th at 1:30 at Sullivan against the winner of Owensville/ Eldon.
The Salem High School Spring Sports Banquet will be held this Wednesday at 6:30 at the Salem High School Cafeteria. Members of the track team, tennis team, golf team and baseball team will be honored.
Jonathan Quick made 30 saves to backstop the Los Angeles Kings to a 1-0 victory over the St. Louis Blues in Game 3 of their Western Conference quarterfinal series at Staples Center. Brian Elliott stopped 20 shots in defeat. St. Louis leads the series 2-1 and game four will be tonight and you can hear it on KSMO at 8:30.
Allen Craig doubled, tripled and drove in four runs and Matt Holliday had a two-run homer with three RBI to help the St. Louis Cardinals take a 10-1 victory and sweep the Milwaukee Brewers in a four- game series for the first time in franchise history. Shane Robinson and Yadier Molina each drove in one run for the Cardinals, who added to a season-high with six straight victories. St. Louis has also won its last seven road tilts. Jaime Garcia (4-1) eased through eight frames, giving up one run on eight hits with a walk and three strikeouts to earn in his fourth victory of the year. The Cardinals have the day off today.
Alex Gordon hit the game-winning single in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Kansas City Royals edged the Chicago White Sox, 6-5, in the middle test of a three-game series. Gordon and Billy Butler had two RBI apiece, while Alcides Escobar and Miguel Tejada each drove in one run to help the Royals even the series. The Royals and White Sox will play again this afternoon and first pitch is at 1:10.

Funeral services for Arthur “Art” Howald of Steelville, age 94, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Steelville First Baptist Church Building Fund or the Community Child Care Center.
Patricia Ann Stacey of Salem, age 92, donated her body to science, there will be no service. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
Funeral services for Dorothy Jean Glenn of Rolla, age 83, will be held Tuesday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Ozark Hills Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to First Freewill Baptist Church.
Funeral services for Joy King of Salem, age 50, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 Thursday evening. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.
Funeral services for Lloyd Edmond Boyd, formerly of Jefferson City and Salem, age 94, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 with a Masonic Service at 7:00 pm. Interment will be in the Mt Hermon Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the Mt Hermon Cemetery Board or the Thompson Center for Autism and Neuro-developmental Disorders in Columbia.
