The Missouri Department of Natural Resources invites you to bring your ideas to an informational meeting on Saturday, May 8
th at Dillard Mill State Historic Site near Davisville. The meeting will begin at 4:00 p.m. under the site's Harmony Picnic Shelter. The meeting will provide information about Dillard Mill State Historic Site, including the facilities, planned improvements at the sites and a recap of the year's accomplishments. Prior to the meeting, you are invited to attend Dillard Days, an annual 1900s picnicking experience, which runs from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the site the same day. Representatives from the historic site will be on hand to provide information about the facilities and to answer questions. The informational meeting is part of an ongoing effort by DNR to ensure that the public has input on services and facilities offered in state parks and historic sites. Dillard Mill State Historic Site, located five miles west of Viburnum and one mile south of Dillard off Highway 49 in Crawford County, is one of Missouri’s best-preserved examples of a water-powered gristmill. The mill was built around 1900 and continued to grind grain until the 1960s. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is seeking comments on a draft plan to improve water quality in Indian Creek and one of it’s tributaries, and Courtois Creek in Washington and Crawford counties near Viburnum. The plan describes pollutant reductions needed to improve water quality in the waterways. The department has determined the waterways do not meet water quality standards due to lead and zinc and has placed them on Missouri’s 2008 list of impaired waters. The study proposes targets for lead and zinc to improve the water quality of the creeks. The information sheet for the study also includes background information on the waterways and provides an overview of the situation. It also usually includes a data sheet and map of the water bodies. Copies of the study and supporting documents can be obtained by calling the department’s Water Protection Program at 800-361-4827 or 573-751-6623 or by visiting the Web site at dnr.mo.gov/env/wpp/tmdl/pn-indian-ck.htm. The public is encouraged to participate in this process if they have concerns regarding the content of this document or if they would like to provide written support for the process. The program will accept written comments regarding the Indian Creek, Tributary to Indian Creek, and Courtois Creek study through May 7.
The Missouri Masonic Children’s Foundation, the Salem Lodge #225, the Salem Police Department and the Dent County Sheriff’s Department will be offering a FREE MOCHIP CHILD ID (Missouri Child Identification) program on Saturday, May 8th at the Freedom Activity Center (Old Armory Building) from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. No one wants to think that the unimaginable could happen to them, but according to statistics, nearly 2,000 children are reported missing or abducted each day in the United States. MOCHIP is a comprehensive child identification program designed to give families a measure of protection against the ever-increasing problem of missing and abducted children. According to Salem R-80 Superintendent Steve Bryant, a mock accident that will be taking place at the Salem Junior and Senior High School buildings at 1:00 this afternoon. The simulation of an accident will help teach students the dangers of drunk driving and not wearing their seatbelts. In addition, the simulation will provide a number of emergency responding agencies with valuable practice that may help them to improve their services. The cooperating agencies include the Salem Air Evac, Salem Memorial District Hospital, Salem Fire Department, Salem Police Department, Dent County Sheriff's Department, Dent County Coroner, Dent County Health Department, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The National Association of Letter Carriers, in conjunction with the United States Postal Service, will be collecting non-perishable food items like, canned meats and fish, canned soup, juice, pasta, vegetables, cereal and rice this Saturday, May 8th to help families in need in our community. You can help by placing your food donation at your mailbox on May 8th before your letter carrier arrives with the day’s mail.
David Massengale and Jay Anderson are coordinating another sesquicentennial tree planting event this Saturday morning at 9:00. Trees will be planted to create an entryway onto Rolla Road/J Highway from Highway 72. If you’d like to help plant some of the sesquicentennial trees, please meet at the Faith Assembly church parking lot at 9:00am on Saturday, and bring a shovel if you have one! This event is open to everyone.

The Salem Baseball Tigers will host the Sullivan Eagles today at 4:30 at the Salem Baseball Field Complex. Salem enters the game with a 5-12 overall record and has lost their last six games in a row. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.
Placido Polanco and Shane Victorino each homered, and Kyle Kendrick and the Phillies bullpen did the rest in Philadelphia's 4-0 win over St. Louis in the third test of a four-game set. Brad Penny (3-2) lost his second straight start by allowing three runs on five hits while fanning six in as many innings for the Cardinals, who have totaled one run in back-to-back losses following an 8-1 stretch. Cardinal's starters have strung together a streak of 14 consecutive quality starts, the most for the franchise since the 1973 season. The Phillies will turn to ace Roy Halladay for the series win this afternoon, while the Cardinals counter with Kyle Lohse. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio at 11:55.
Andruw Jones and Alex Rios each homered and drove in three runs to pace the Chicago White Sox to a 9-2 clobbering of the Kansas City Royals in the rubber match of a three-game set. Alberto Callaspo and Chris Getz each drove in a run and Jason Kendall went 2-for-3 for the Royals who have dropped three-of-four to fall to 11-17on the year. Brian Bannister (1-2) was shelled for seven runs on seven hits in three-plus frames. The Royals will be at Texas tonight.
St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson reportedly underwent back surgery to repair a herniated disc he suffered during the 2009 season. Jackson suffered the injury in late November, but head coach Steve Spagnuolo maintained that the procedure was minor and would not affect Jackson's status for the upcoming season.
The Salem Tiger Boys Summer Basketball Camp will he held June 1st thru 4th from 8:00 am to 11:00 am for boys entering 9th through 12 grades and from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm for boys entering 5th through 8th grades. The Salem Tiger Boys Summer Basketball Camp will be held at the Salem High School gym, the cost is $30 per camper and each camper will receive a camp T-shirt. Anyone interested can pickup a form at the Salem JH or call Coach Zenker. The deadline to register is Friday, May 14th.

Funeral services for Shirley Hedrick of Bay, Missouri, age 73, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery.
Funeral services for Richard “Richie” Clark Gates of Salem, age 51, will be held Saturday at 3:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 2:00 until service time.
