The Missouri Department of Natural Resources is seeking comments on a draft plan to improve water quality in Indian Creek and one of it’s tributaries, and Courtois Creek in Washington and Crawford counties near Viburnum. The plan describes pollutant reductions needed to improve water quality in the waterways. The department has determined the waterways do not meet water quality standards due to lead and zinc and has placed them on Missouri’s 2008 list of impaired waters. The study proposes targets for lead and zinc to improve the water quality of the creeks. The information sheet for the study also includes background information on the waterways and provides an overview of the situation. It also usually includes a data sheet and map of the water bodies. Copies of the study and supporting documents can be obtained by calling the department’s Water Protection Program at 800-361-4827 or 573-751-6623 or by visiting the Web site at dnr.mo.gov/env/wpp/tmdl/pn-indian-ck.htm. The public is encouraged to participate in this process if they have concerns regarding the content of this document or if they would like to provide written support for the process.  The program will accept written comments regarding the Indian Creek, Tributary to Indian Creek, and Courtois Creek study through May 7.
