St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols has been named the National League Player of the Month for April. Pujols was dominant in the first month of the season, hitting .337 with eight home runs, 28 RBI and 22 runs scored. The two-time NL MVP also walked 18 times, stole four bases and smacked two grand slams in the span. The Cardinal's also claimed the National League Rookie of the Month for April award as that went to Brian Barden. The 28-year old Barden hit a scorching .385 with three homers and seven RBI in 21 games for St. Louis, which recorded a MLB-best 16-7 record in the first month of the season.

Shane Victorino came within a triple of the cycle, driving in three and scoring three, while Jayson Werth hit a three-run home run in Philadelphia's 10-7 victory over St. Louis. Adam Wainwright (3-1) took the loss. Tyler Greene ended 2-for-4, as did Ryan Ludwick, who joined Albert Pujols and Yadier Molina with a solo home run. The Cardinals, who still lead the National League Central in the early going, have lost three in a row. The Cardinals will host the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight at 6:55 and you can hear the game on KSMO.

Royals up-and-coming ace Zack Greinke was named the American League's Pitcher of the Month for April. The 25-year-old has been nearly unhittable in his first month of the 2009 campaign, posting a 0.50 earned run average and 44 strikeouts to go with a 5-0 record to open the year. Greinke did not allow an earned run in his first four starts of the year, joining only Fernando Valenzuela to ever pull off the feat. Since earned runs became a statistic in the A.L. in 1912, the right-hander is only the fifth pitcher to post a 5-0 first month while owning an ERA under 1.00.

John Buck only had one hit in six at-bats, but made it count as his RBI single in the 11th inning was the difference as Kansas City edged the Chicago White Sox, 8-7, in the finale of a two-game set. Mike Jacobs had a three-run homer and Alberto Callaspo added a solo shot for the Royals, who have won four straight and six of seven overall. Billy Butler and Coco Crisp both drove in a run in the win. Kyle Davies started and went four-plus innings and yielded six runs on eight hits to get a no-decision. Juan Cruz (2-0) got the win with a scoreless 11th inning of relief. The Royals will face Seattle tonight.
