The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2400, 5530 and 6410, brush would be cut on Dent County Road 6300 and rock would be hauled to Dent County Road 6380. He also stated that a driveway culvert would be installed on Dent County Road 4225 and one man would be screening brown rock at the Road and Bridge Department. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 4330 and 4400. He also said that cold mix was obtained and is being used for patching on Dent County Road 3233 along with the roller and brown rock was being hauled for the screening process. Larson said that the screening process now used is working better than those of the past. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles received a letter from Maria Cordon with the Meramec Regional Planning Commission regarding the appointment of members to the Meramec Regional Development Corporation Loan Review Board. Dennis Purcell and Mike Hoemeyer currently hold those seats and Skiles reported that he spoke with both gentlemen, and they agreed to serve another three-year term. Skiles received an updated letter from the Council For A Healthy Dent County regarding the $5,000 “in-kind” donation of white rock, man-hours and the delivery expense associated with the white rock, for the proposed hiking and biking trails around the Upper Elementary School. The Commission, by a 3-0 vote, approved the request. Skiles again wanted to remind everyone that the Farmer’s Market would open this Saturday at 7:30 am. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that she and the Treasurer balanced on all accounts for April. Curley also reported that she and the Collector’s Office and the Assessor’s Office balanced on the add-on’s, abatements and the monthly collections for April. The Commission would be looking at and approving the add-on’s, abatements and collections as well as bills. The Commission also approved a bill to be paid of $76,500 for the Road and Bridge Department for chip and seal. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 at the Dent County Courthouse and that meeting is open to the public.

Highway 72 in Dent and Reynolds County will be reduced to one lane as Missouri Department of Transportation crews replace a pipe under the roadway. This section of roadway is located between Highway 32 in Dent County to Route KK in Reynolds County. Weather permitting, work will take place Monday, May 7th through Thursday, May 10th from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily. The work zone will be marked with signs.  Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area. A bridge replacement project on Route 32 over Spring Creek in Dent County is scheduled to begin on Monday, May 7th, weather permitting.  The bridge is located east of Craig Industrial Drive in Salem. The bridge will be closed to traffic during construction. Motorists are advised to find an alternate route around the work area. The bridge will remain closed for nearly two months. The bridge replacement is part of MoDOT's Safe & Sound Bridge Improvement Program, which will improve 802 of Missouri's worst bridges by the end of 2012.  More than 700 of the bridges included in the program have already been improved statewide. US Bank is sponsoring the Tuesday, May 8th Salem Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon meeting at the Southwest Baptist University Salem campus located at 501 South Grand Street. Salem's local Branch Manager, Mike McCluskey, and US Bank's Treasury Management Specialist, Kelly Vansyoc will give a presentation titled "Small Business Banking in the 20-teens". The Salem Baseball Tigers dropped their fourth straight game as they lost to Sullivan Thursday, 8-5. Lane Stluka had a two-run homer and went 2 for 3 with three RBI to lead Salem. The Tigers are now 10-7 on the year and they will host the Salem Tournament this Saturday with St. James and Eldon. Salem will play St. James Saturday morning at 10:00 followed by the St. James and Eldon game at 12:30.The final game will pit Salem against Eldon at 3:00. The games will NOT be broadcast on KSMO Radio. Tickets for the Salem game to be held at Busch Stadium on May 26th after the Cardinal/Phillies game will be available for $26.00 each at the concession stand on Saturday from 10:00 AM until 5:00 PM.

The Salem Baseball Tigers have been seeded third in districts and will face the Houston Tigers on Saturday, May 12th at 9:00 at Houston.

Drew Doughty posted a goal and two assists to lead the Los Angeles Kings to a 4-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues in Game 3 of this Western Conference semifinal series. The Kings, seeded eighth, now hold a 3-0 lead in this best-of-seven series. Chris Stewart scored both goals while Brian Elliott gave up all four goals on 22 shots for the Blues. Game four will be Sunday afternoon at 2:00 and can be heard on KSMO Radio.

Pedro Alvarez hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning, and Clint Barmes also drove in two runs as Pittsburgh avoided a sweep with a 6-3 decision over St. Louis at Busch Stadium. Allen Craig drove in two runs and David Freese added a run-scoring double for the Cardinals, who lost for just the second time in their last seven. Jake Westbrook (3-2) was touched in defeat for nine hits and four runs over 6 1/3 frames. The Cards will be in Houston tonight to start a three-game series with the Astros and you can hear it on KSMO at 6:30.

After 10 consecutive home losses to start the year, the Kansas City Royals finally recorded a win at Kauffman Stadium. Mike Moustakas had two hits, including a solo home run, to go with three runs batted in as the Kansas City Royals edged the New York Yankees, 4-3, in the opener of a three-game set on Thursday. Danny Duffy (2-2) allowed two runs on six hits and two walks in 5 1/3 innings for Kansas City, which has won five of its past seven games. The Royals and Yankees play again tonight.

Funeral services for Michael Peter Norris of Salem, age 65, will be held Monday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 4:00 to 6:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

Funeral services for Mary B. Hodges of Gillespie, Illinois, age 86, will be Monday at 11:00 at the Salem Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be from 10:00 until the service time at 11:00 at the Chapel. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.
