The Salem Police Department has release their reports. On Wednesday, April 18th at 10:35 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to the 800 block of East Hawkins in reference to property damage. The investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown painted graffiti on a garage causing about $20 in damage. Later that afternoon at 4:10, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to an assault. The investigation revealed that a 25-year old Salem male had assaulted a 39-year old Salem female. The suspect was arrested for domestic assault and was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. Later on that night at 10:00, a residence in the 800 block of East Rolla road was searched for drugs. The search led to the arrest of a 17-year old Salem male for possession of barbiturates, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia and a 39-year old Salem female for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The female was released on summons to appear in court and the male was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On Thursday, April 19th at 10:20, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation led to the detention of a 15-year old Salem male juvenile for distribution of marijuana. He was released to a parent and the report will be forwarded to the juvenile officer for further review. On Friday, April 20th at 1:53 in the afternoon, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation led to the arrest of a 26-year old Salem male for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was issued summons to appear in court and released. Later that night at 10:00, an officer made contact with a 31-year old Salem female who had an active fugitive warrant from Dent County. She was taken into custody on the warrant, paid the fine and cost, and was released. On Saturday, April 21st at 12:15 in the early morning, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 100 block of South Pershing in reference to an assault. The investigation revealed that a 50-year old Salem male had assaulted a 20-year old male and a 42-year old female, both of Salem. The suspect was arrested for domestic assault and was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On Sunday, April 22nd at 10:00 at night, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 1300 block of South Gertrude in reference to a peace disturbance. The investigation led to the arrest of a 25-year old female and a 32-year old male, both of Salem, for peace disturbance. They were issued summons to appear in court and released. The Missouri Department of Agriculture is accepting proposals for funding to increase the production, processing, and/or distribution of Missouri’s specialty crops. The Department anticipates receiving more than $350,000 in grant funding for fiscal year 2013 from the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service to enhance the competitiveness of specialty crops in Missouri. The USDA defines specialty crops as fruits and vegetables, dried fruit, tree nuts, maple syrup, honey, horticulture and nursery crops, including floriculture. The Department’s goal is to use the grant program to expand local, regional and international markets and distribution channels for specialty crops, as well as for education, marketing and infrastructure development. Applications for the 2013 fiscal year must be submitted to the Department no later than May 11, 2012. Applications are available online, or by contacting the Department’s Agriculture Business Development Division at abd@mda.mo.gov. 

US Bank is sponsoring the Tuesday, May 8th Salem Area Chamber of Commerce luncheon meeting at the Southwest Baptist University Salem campus located at 501 South Grand Street. Salem's local Branch Manager, Mike McCluskey, and US Bank's Treasury Management Specialist, Kelly Vansyoc will give a presentation titled "Small Business Banking in the 20-teens". The University Missouri Extension is offering a “It’s So Easy to Preserve” Food Preservation Series that features the latest research and water bath canning fruits and vegetables. Each of the three workshops will feature different processes and include hands-on demonstration of methods and equipment.  All sessions will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 802 Hwy 32 East in Salem. The first session of the three-part series, “Making Fantastic Jams and Jellies - Water Bath Jam & Freezer Jelly” will be held on Friday, May 4th. The workshop will review harvesting, using, and storing fresh produce from the garden or Farmers Market, and freezing procedures to assure quality results.  On Thursday, June 17th, “Salsa from Your Garden” will highlight water bath canning techniques and procedures for processing high acid foods such as tomato salsas, and fruits.  “Home Canning the Safe Way” will be the third session of the series, schedule for Monday, June 21st. Individuals may register for the entire “It’s So Easy to Preserve” Food Preservation Series, or select individual workshops.  Pre-registration is required with a maximum attendance of 10 participants, so register early. Registration deadline is one week prior to the session.  The fee is $10 for one session, or $30 for all 3.  Register at the Dent County Extension Center located at 112 East 5th Street in Salem or by phone at 729-3196. The Salem High School Baseball Team will be giving away 4 tickets to the St Louis Cardinals and Philadelphia Phillies game on May 26th and the Salem Tiger/South Calloway High School Game immediately following at Busch Stadium. For every hamburger or hotdog purchased from the SHS Baseball Team Concession Stand during the re-scheduled Salem tournament this Saturday, you will receive a chance to win a ticket to the game. Four winning tickets will be drawn at the conclusion of the final game of the tournament. Tickets may also be purchased for the May 26th game, through the Salem High School Baseball Team Concession Stand from 10 am to 5 pm Saturday at the Salem High School Baseball field. Tickets are $26 each, less than half the price of a normal ticket. Those wanting to attend the game and do not have a way to get there, arrangements have been made to charter a USA Tour Bus for anyone wanting to ride to the game and back. The bus will seat 57 and at least 40 of the 57 seats need to sell to pay for the bus. The cost to ride the bus roundtrip is $19 per person.

Carlos Beltran finished 4-for-5 with a pair of three-run home runs and a career-high seven RBI as the St. Louis Cardinals rolled to a 12-3 thrashing of the Pittsburgh Pirates in the middle test of a three-game set at Busch Stadium. Matt Holliday went 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI and three runs scored for the Cardinals. Lance Lynn (5-0) tossed 6 2/3 strong innings, giving up two runs on three hits and one walk while fanning six. The Cards go for the sweep today at 12:10 and you can hear it on KSMO.

Chris Getz slapped a go-ahead RBI single in the top of the ninth inning Wednesday as the Royals downed the Tigers, 3-2, in the finale of a weather-shortened two-game series at Comerica Park. Royal’s starter Jonathan Sanchez carried a no-hitter into the fifth before a two-out double ended it. Kansas City starts a series with the Yankees tonight.

The St. Louis Blues will be in L.A. tonight to face the Kings in Game 3 of the Western Conference semifinal at 9:00. L.A. leads the series 2-0 and you can hear it on KSMO.

Funeral services for Geraldine Farmer of Salem, age 79, will be held today at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in Salem. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Evelyn F. Irwin of Rolla will be held Friday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be held Friday morning from 10:00 to 11:00. Memorials may be made to the Phelps Regional Home Care or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Funeral services for Karen May Lakes of Salem, age 62, will be held Saturday at noon at the Trinity Baptist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana. Interment will be in the Floral Park Cemetery in Indianapolis. Memorials may be made to the Relay for Life. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral Mass for Robert Louis Nothaus of Lenexa, Kansas, age 50, will be Saturday at 10:00 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00, with a Rosary Services at 7:30 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Salem High School Golf Team.

Funeral services for Paul Jean Edmondson of Rolla, age 83, will b held Saturday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Anutt Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Salem Avenue Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Michael Peter Norris of Salem, age 65, will be held Monday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
