The

Konink Ahold on Wednesday announced that it has reached a definitive agreement on the sale of U.S. Foodservice to a consortium of Clayton, Dubilier & Rice Fund VII, L.P. ("CD&R") and Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co L.P.("KKR") for a purchase price of 7.1 billion US Dollars. According to their press release, the closing of the transaction is expected in the second half of 2007 subject to the fulfillment of customary conditions, including anti-trust clearance and approval by Ahold's shareholders. Both the Supervisory Board and Corporate Executive Board of Ahold are recommending that shareholders approve the sale. Shareholder approval will be sought at an Extraordinary General Meeting to be held on June 19, 2007. More detailed information on the transaction will be made available to shareholders ahead of this meeting. Anders Moberg, Ahold President & CEO, commented: "I am extremely pleased to be able to announce that we have reached this important milestone for U.S. Foodservice, for Ahold and for our shareholders.  We have focused on restructuring U.S. Foodservice, strengthening its capabilities and restoring profitability. The agreement we have been able to reach with CD&R and KKR is the result of the hard work and dedication of everyone at U.S. Foodservice."  U.S. Foodservice is the second largest foodservice distributor in the United States with 2006 net sales of 19.2 billion dollars. It is a full-service foodservice distributor, which distributes food and related products across the United States to over 250,000 foodservice customers, including restaurants, hospitals, hotels, schools, the government and other establishments where food is prepared away from home.

Today is the National Day of Prayer. The day will begin at 8:00 AM with prayer and end with a prayer at 8:00 PM on the Dent County Courthouse lawn. Everyone is welcome to come anytime during day and if you can’t make it to the Courthouse lawn, find time to stop sometime during the day, wherever you are, and say a prayer on the National Day of Prayer.

The Dent County Fire Protection District responded to two brush fire calls Monday afternoon at 1:05 down Highway 19 South to WW Highway. The first call was for a one-acre brush fire on WW Highway caused from burning trash. And the second call was for another three acres of dense wood on fire in the same location. Mutual aid was requested from the Timber Fire Department and the Missouri Department of Conservation. Firefighters spent about an hour and half bringing the fire under control. A total of five firefighters responded to the call.

The Dent County Fire Protection District responded to a structure fire Sunday morning at 2:09 at 505 South Jackson at property owned by Matt Ketzler. Upon arrival, firefighters found a one-story wood frame structure with the back side of the building about half involved. The building appeared to be unoccupied. Firefighters had the fire under control within an hour and ten minutes. The point of ignition was the northwest corner of the structure and the Fire Marshall was called in for an investigation. No injuries were reported. A total of 16 firefighters responded to the call. 

The Dent County Fire Protection District released their reports for the month of April. There were five calls for structure fires, seven calls for brush fires, one call for a car fire, and two calls were for the Dent County Fire Protection District to create a landing zone. Also during the month of April there were four calls for mutual aid, one call for ambulance assist, one call for Hazmat, one call for carbon monoxide, and one fire alarm call. The Dent County Fire Protection District received a total of 29 calls including one for a meeting and one for training. An average total of eight firefighters responded to the call in April.

The Salem Baseball Tigers are scheduled to be at Sullivan this afternoon at 4:30, If played, you can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at www.ksmoradio.com. The Tigers are 11-5 on the year going into the contest.

The Salem Jr. High Track Team will participate in the Rolla Invitational today at 3:00, weather permitting.

Prince Fielder singled in two runs as the Milwaukee Brewers finished a three-game sweep of the St. Louis Cardinals at home for the first time in almost 10 years with a 4-0 shutout at Miller Park. Milwaukee last recorded a three-game home sweep of the Cardinals on June 16-18, 1997. They did, however, take every contest of a four-game series in 2002. Albert Pujols ended 3-for-4 for the Cardinals, who have dropped five straight and three in a row since the tragic death of relief pitcher Josh Hancock early Sunday morning. Anthony Reyes (0-5) allowed four runs - three earned – on three hits with eight strikeouts and four walks in six innings for the Cards. The Cardinals will have the day off today and will be attending a Memorial Service for Josh Hancock in Mississippi.

Esteban German hit a three-run homer in the seventh and Jorge De La Rosa threw seven solid innings to lead the Kansas City Royals to a 3-1 win over the LA Angels of Anaheim in the middle portion of a three-game set at Kauffman Stadium. De La Rosa (3-2) allowed just one run on five hits, while walking one and striking out two. Joakim Soria pitched the ninth for his fourth save in four chances for the Royals, who snapped a three game losing streak. German's home run was his first of the season and fourth in 445 career at- bats. Reggie Sanders left the game in the sixth with a tight left hamstring after getting a double. The Royals and Angels conclude their series today at Kaufmann Stadium.

A Memorial Mass for Robert Vernon Krause of Salem, age 59, will be held Friday morning at 10:00 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rolla. Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick Catholic Church Music Ministry or Assumption Abby in Ava. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary of Rolla.

Funeral services for Jane A. Hanna of St. James, age 88, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in St. James. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 tonight. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Missouri Chapter of the American Heart Association.

Funeral services for Wayne Allen Ragan of Salem, age 44, are incomplete at this time, but are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
