An accident occurred at 10:15 Thursday morning in Dent County on Route OO 19 miles southwest of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 1990 Isuzu Pickup driven by 27-year-old Johnnie McWhorter of Lecoma, was traveling west bound on Route OO. The accident occurred as vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway when McWhorter lost control. He overcorrected and the Isuzu ran off the left side of the roadway and overturned. McWhorter suffered moderate injuries and was taken by a private vehicle to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. An occupant in the vehicle, 21-year-old Danielle Littrell of Lecoma, suffered moderate injuries and was also taken by a private vehicle to Phelps County Regional Medical Center. No one was wearing a safety restraint at the time of the accident. The Isuzu was totaled and removed from the scene by Whitakers Towing.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol have released a number of arrest reports for Dent County. On Saturday, April 23^rd at 8:18 at night 31-year-old Ted Glidewell of Salem was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, for not having a valid operators license, and for not wearing a seat belt. He was taken to the Dent County Jail and later released. On Sunday, April 24^th at 10:30 in the morning, 30-year-old Flint Raulston of Sullivan was arrested on a felony Dent County warrant for failure to appear on the original charge of non-support. He was taken to the Dent County Jail. On Monday, April 25^th at 10:08 in the evening, 42-year-old Adam Mathis of Salem was arrested on nine different warrants. The warrants from Dent County included felony counterfeiting, misdemeanor failure to appear for possession of narcotic equipment, misdemeanor larceny, no seat belt, and possession of marijuana. He also had Phelps County warrants for his arrest for misdemeanor contempt of court, misdemeanor failure to appear for no operator’s license, misdemeanor failure to appear for no valid license, and misdemeanor failure to appear for no insurance. He was taken to the Dent County Jail.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 7:00 pm. After approval of the agenda, during the hearing of persons, John Watson wishes to discuss with the Board their decision to consider banning the sale of bath salts inside the city limits; and Billy Joe Parker, who had previously requested to address the Board, but was unable to attend due to a medical emergency in his family, does not want to pay a registration fee of ($100),that was set by an Ordinance for his pit bull, and feels it is excessive and wants the Board to change the Ordinance. In bids, the Salem Police Department requested bids to stripe the two new vehicles, and the City requested bids for material to replace the roof on the City Garage. Those items will be discussed. During reports of City Officials, Boards and Committee’s, there will be a report on the Utility Committee meeting that was held Thursday, April 28^th about a possible contract with MMMPEP; Mayor Gary Brown will report on various issues involving the City; and Director of Public Works Bill Huffman will give his report on items concerning the City of Salem. During the introduction and reading of bills, Bill #3224, which is an ordinance required to annex the properties of 1397 West Scenic Rivers BLVD, owned by the Mississippi Valley Forest Products, Inc; 1500 Beezley Street owned by Joshua A. Rowe and 1402 West Franklin Avenue owned by Perry E. & Verna L. Inman will be presented, as the Board approved the annexations at the last meeting. In new and miscellaneous business, City Attorney William Camm Seay wishes to open discussion, to get the Board’s thoughts, on the rent that should be charged to the Cardio Vascular Program at the Freedom Activity Center for the use of the facility. City Clerk Mary Happel will then present the bills for approval and the Board may then vote to go into Closed Session. The meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public. 

The Missouri Department of Revenue reminds citizens that none of its employees will ever contact Missouri taxpayers to ask for credit card or debit card numbers. The Department recently received a report that a citizen received a call from someone who represented himself as “representing the state of Missouri.” The phone caller stated that he had an “income tax rebate” for the citizen, but that he would need the citizen’s credit card number and expiration date to complete the transaction. Scam artists sometimes falsely represent themselves as agents of the government in an attempt to get people’s confidential financial information. The Department urges citizens to ignore these dishonest, would-be thieves. Alan Benowitz shot a 94 and Connor Stroburg finished with a 96 and both advanced out of Districts to Sectionals on Friday during the Class 3 District 1 tournament held at Crown Pointe Country Club in Farmington as Salem finished 6^th out of 11 teams. The Sectional tournament will be held this Thursday at Dalhousi Country Club in Cape Girardeau.

The Salem Baseball Tigers are scheduled to be at Steelville today starting at 4:30, weather permitting. If played, you can hear the game on KSMO radio and online at ksmoradio.com.

Brooks Conrad's pinch-hit run-scoring single in the bottom of the ninth inning was the difference, as Atlanta edged the St. Louis Cardinals, 6-5, in the finale of a three-game set at Turner Field. Matt Holliday had a pair of doubles and drove in two, while Lance Berkman and Albert Pujols had an RBI apiece for St. Louis, which had a four-game winning streak halted. Jaime Garcia went six-plus innings and did not get a decision. The left-hander allowed four runs on five hits. He fanned six and walked one. Ryan Franklin took the loss and is 0-3 on the year. The Cards will host the Florida Marlins starting tonight at 6:40 on KSMO Radio.

St. Louis Cardinals third baseman David Freese broke a bone in his left hand in Sunday's loss to the Braves. Freese will likely be placed on the 15-day disabled list on today. The break may require surgery.

Mike Aviles had four RBI, including a three-run homer, and the Kansas City Royals banged out 15 hits for a 10-3 victory over Minnesota on Sunday, sweeping the Twins in a three-game series and handing them their season-high sixth straight loss. Luke Hochevar (3-3), surrendered three runs on five hits and four walks in 6 1/3 innings to earn the win. The Royals will be off today.

Salem Tigers Boys Basketball Camp will run from Tuesday May 31st – Friday June 3rd.  Camp Times are 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m for boys entering 9 –12 grades and 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. for boys entering 5- 8 grades. Cost of the camp is $30.  Camp forms will be sent home with kids, but if you do not receive one, you can stop by the JH and pick one up from Coach Zenker. Camp Forms are due back Friday May 13th so that T-Shirts can be ordered.

There will be a Girls Softball Clinic for girls going into the 5th - 8th grades next school year at the City Park fields or the high school gym if it rains. The Girls Softball Clinic will be held 3 Saturdays in a row on May 14^th, May 21^st and May 28^th. The cost is $20 and the clinics will be held from 9:00 am until noon. The clinic will consist of 3 Saturdays of specialized drills and fundamental work that will increase your skill level.  At the clinic you will work on correct hitting mechanics to improve bat speed, and throwing and fielding mechanics that will help you to be a tough defender.  Game strategy and situations to help you understand how to play the game will also be covered.  Each participate will receive a t-shirt. The seventh and eighth grade Honors Choir members will join the Upper Elementary Honors Choir to sing the National Anthem on July 28^th at Busch Stadium. The band will be playing “God Bless America” prior to the choirs singing the National Anthem.
