The Salem Police Department released their reports involving drugs, burglary, disorderly conduct and theft. On April 17^th at 11:32 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the 300 block of East Truman on an unrelated incident. During the investigation the officer discovered a 34-year old Salem male had an active warrant for his arrest. He was incarcerated pending extradition. Later that evening at 11:19, an officer observed two males smoking marijuana in a vehicle parked on Ray Lane. Both 18-year old Salem males were arrested for possession of marijuana, issued a summons to appear in court and released. On April 22^nd at 5:25 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to the First Baptist Church Youth Center in reference to a burglary. The report revealed that person(s) unknown entered the garage, and then entered the building by forced entry. Taken from the building were video games, videos, game controllers and a Nintendo Wii game system. The items are valued at $1,160 and the report is still under investigation. Later that evening at 8:00, an officer was sent to Highway 19 and Third Street in reference to a fight in progress. The report led to the arrest of a 23-year old Salem female for disorderly conduct. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On April 23^rd at 7:35 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the Village Gallery on Carnett Drive in reference to a theft. The report revealed that person(s) unknown took a hood and grill off of a red Ford F-150 that was parked in the parking lot. The items are valued at $550 and the report is still under investigation. As spring and summer arrive more and more Missourians are having work done on their homes and Attorney General Jay Nixon wants to warn consumers to watch out for telltale signs of fraud.  Consumers should be suspicious of workers who solicit business door-to-door, drive vehicles that are unmarked or have out-of-state plates. Consumers should be leery if the business asks for full payment in advance of any work, or if they have no physical address, just a phone or P.O. Box number. If anyone asks for an immediate decision or don’t carry identification on them, please be careful.  This applies to any business, not just home improvement. Consumers are asked to please be very careful, ask questions, make no immediate decisions, and be sure and check with the Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division by calling 1-800-392-8222.

An accident happened Tuesday evening in Pulaski County on Highway 7 about four miles south of Richland. According to the highway patrol report, a 1999 Mercury driven southbound by 75-year old Betty Mincher of Steelville, went out of control on the wet pavement, exited the roadway and struck a tree. Suffering serious injuries in the accident  was 91-year old Effie Christopher of Steelville who was taken to the Breech Hospital in Lebanon by the Pulaski County Ambulance. Mincher suffered moderate injuries and was also taken to the Breech Hospital by ambulance. Both Christopher and Mincher were wearing seat restraints and the Mercury was totaled in the accident.

With a law now requiring boat registration renewals to be accompanied by a paid personal property tax receipt, the Missouri Department of Revenue is mailing a newly designed renewal notice to boat owners whose boat registrations are due to expire June 30, 2007. Renewal applicants must submit a 2006 paid personal property tax receipt when renewing their boat registration this year. Senate Bill #778, which became effective last year, requires proof of paid personal property taxes when applying for title and registration or renewing a boat/vessel registration. Missouri residents should submit a personal property tax receipt from their county of residence. If the vessel is a houseboat or cabin cruiser, the tax receipt should be from the county where the boat or vessel is located. Senate Bill #778 also increased the registration fees for all boats/vessels. The fees for a boat/vessel under 16-feet is now $25, 16-feet up to less than 26-feet is $55, 26-feet up to less than 40-feet is $100 and the fee for a boat/vessel 40-feet and over is $150.
