The Dent County Commissioners held their meeting Thursday morning at the courthouse. In the road report, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that conditions were too wet for grading. Purcell did say that rock would be hauled to Dent County Road 5450. Crews would be out cleaning out culverts and checking roads for water damage. Purcell also reported that work would be done on the dash of a dump truck, and they would be catching up on routine maintenance. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson reported that maintenance would be done on truck #58. Crews would be checking road pipes, adding rock to the muddy spots and checking for water damage. All three Commissioners voted and agreed to go with Cleverstone for the chip and seal based on their quality of work and satisfaction results. All three Commissioners also signed the lease-purchase agreement for the single axle truck. The truck will be delivered to Dent County for a cost of $1,186.25.  Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that on Tuesday he attended an Ozark Scenic Riverways Waste Management meeting with recycling being the main topic. There will be a recycling for large appliances, TV’s and monitors held at the Brewer Science parking lot in Rolla on Saturday, May 9th. Skiles also reported that on Wednesday he attended a Meramec Regional Emergency Planning Committee meeting where the swine flu was discussed. Skiles reported that the anti-viral treatment supply for the flu would be picked up for Dent County, although no cases have been reported. Economic Development Director Sharon Tubbs stopped by to let the Commission know that she, along with Community Development Specialist with the University of Missouri Extention Service Sarah Hultine, and Business Development Specialist with the extension Mick Gilliam developed a survey to determine the economic impact of the Rally in the 100-Acre Wood. The survey was done online and was e-mailed to all 76 members of the 38 teams that participated in the event. Of those 76, a total of 53 (or 70%) responded to the survey. Almost 55% of those participating in the survey answered in the highest range of the survey. The survey showed that 39% were first timers, most stayed an average of two nights, 100% would recommend the Rally to others and 94% would return to the Rally next year. The survey also showed that 75% of the respondents were male, and 60% were under the age of 35. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and that meeting is open to the public.
