The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their reports involving a search warrant. On Saturday, April 26th at 10:15 in the evening, the Dent County Sheriff's Department served a search warrant at a residence located off of Highway 32 West. The search warrant was obtained after receiving an affidavit from the Salem Police Department. The Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Salem Police Department assisted in serving the search warrant. As a result of the search warrant an indoor grow of marijuana with over 29 plants in various stages of growth, grow lights, drug paraphernalia, numerous weapons, incendiary devices, marijuana and other items were taken as evidence.  As a result 24-year old Michael Brandon Bailey was taken into custody and a warrant was obtained charging him with five felony counts. He was charged with one felony count of Manufacturing a Controlled Substance, one count of Keeping or Maintaining a Public Nuisance, one felony count of Unlawful Possession of an Illegal Weapon, one count of Unlawful Possession of Explosive or Incendiary

Material with the Purpose to Possess, Manufacture, or Sell an Explosive Weapon, and one felony count of Possession of a Controlled Substance. His bond has been set at $45,000. Also, 22-year old Nathan Lee Bailey was taken into custody and a warrant was obtained charging him with two felony counts: one for Manufacturing of a Controlled Substance and one felony county of Keeping or Maintaining a Public Nuisance. His bond was set at $20,000.

The Dent County Fall Festival Board of Directors invites everyone out to the Spring Festival to be held at the Commons, located on Highway 72 North tonight through Saturday. Rides will be provided by Clint Payne’s Funtime Show. Wristbands are $13 in advance and $15 at the Fair. Wristbands can be purchased at your local banks, Larson Collision Center and The Salem News. Admission will be free tonight and beginning at 7:30 it will be Wristband Night. Friday, May 2nd is also wristband night and admission is $6 with the Garden Tractor & Mini Rods starting at 7:00. Saturday, May 3rd is wristband day and night. The Dent County Royalty Pageant will begin at 6:00 at the Commons for the Dent County Baby, Little Miss Dent County and the Dent County Princess contests, followed by the Demolition Derby at 7:00. Admission is $6 on Saturday.

School will be dismissed early on Friday, May 2nd due to a teacher In-service. William Lynch will dismiss at 11:15 am, Upper Elementary will dismiss at 11:20 am, Junior and Senior High Schools will dismiss at 11:30 am, and the rural schools, Oak Hill R-I, Green Forest R-II, Dent-Phelps R-III and Northwood R-IV will all dismiss at 11:45 am.

An accident happened in Dent County Wednesday afternoon at 4:50 on Route F about 3 ½ miles southwest of Salem. According to the highway patrol, a 1990 Ford Ranger Pickup driven by 16-year old Ryan Knight of Salem, went off the left side of the roadway, then over-corrected and went off the right side of the roadway where the Ford overturned several times. Ryan Knight and a passenger in the pickup, 16-year old Justin Nelson of Salem, were ejected from the pickup. Suffering serious injuries in the accident were Nelson, who was Air Evac’d to St. Johns Hospital in Springfield; and six-year old Christopher Knight, the brother of the driver, Ryan Knight, and he was airlifted by St. Johns Lifeline to St. Johns Hospital in Springfield. Ryan Knight suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital by ambulance. No one in the vehicle was wearing a seat restraint and the Ford Pickup was totaled. The pickup was removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

The Spring City Wide Yard Sale will be held this Saturday, May 3rd. To signup for a spot on the City Administration Parking Lot located at 4th and Iron Streets, call 729-4811. There are three spaces remaining and the fee is $8.00 per space. The deadline to reserve a spot on the city lot is tomorrow. Yard Sale maps will be available at convenience stores, the City Administration Building and the Chamber Office in the Visitors Center. Copies of the map were also printed in the Tuesday edition of the Salem News.

The Salem Baseball Tigers will host the Sullivan Eagles today in a non-conference tilt beginning at 4:30 at the Salem High School Baseball Field Complex. Salem is 8-4 on the year and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at www.ksmoradio.com.

Aaron Miles and Rick Ankiel each drove in a pair of runs to back the six-inning effort of Braden Looper, as the St. Louis Cardinals notched a 5-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds in the rubber match of a three-game series at Busch Stadium. Miles finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Ankiel was 3-for-3 with a walk for the Cardinals, who won 18 games in April to set a franchise record for the opening month of a season. St. Louis previously won 17 April games in 2000 and 2006. Looper (4-1) gave up two runs on seven hits with two walks and four strikeouts to earn the win. Three relievers combined for two scoreless innings before Jason Isringhausen set down the side in order in the ninth for his ninth save. The Cards have the day off today.

Josh Hamilton hit a grand slam, one of five Texas home runs, to lead the Rangers in an 11-9 victory over the Kansas City Royals in the middle of a three-game set. Milton Bradley, David Murphy and Gerald Laird all hit two-run homers for the Rangers, who have alternated wins and losses for the past six games, while Brandon Boggs added a solo shot. John Buck and David DeJesus both hit two-run homers for the Royals, who have dropped two of their last three. Tony Pena had a double and Joey Gathright a triple in defeat. Brian Bannister (3-3) absorbed the loss after he was rocked for seven runs on seven hits in just three innings of work. The Royals and Rangers will play this afternoon in Arlington.

The Spring Sports Banquet will be held on Thursday, May 15th at the Salem High School Cafeteria starting at 6:30 pm. There will be a night of recognition for the Varsity and Junior Varsity baseball, track, golf and tennis athletes and their parents are invited to attend to honor the 2008 Spring Season.

Funeral services for Randy Schafer of Salem, age 48, will be held this morning at 11:00 at Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Green Forest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Randy Schafer Memorial Fund at Town & Country Bank.

Funeral services for Dorothy P. Halbrook of Sullivan, age 70, will be held at noon Friday at the Eaton Funeral Home Southside Chapel in Sullivan. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis in the name of Dorothy Halbrook.
