The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. At the meeting, District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that crews are still preparing the Cedar Grove Road and Dent County Road 424A for chip and seal.  District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 402 and grading would be done on Dent County Roads 233 and 234. Tune also said a crew is replacing a road pipe on the Golf Course Road to prepare it for the one mile extension of chip and seal. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he would be meeting with Dent County’s Emergency Operation Review Committee Thursday to review and make changes if needed to the Local Emergency Operation Plan. Dent County Clerk Angie Clerk reported that she would be attending a South Central County Clerk’s meeting Wednesday in West Plains. Curley also reported that the total cost for April’s Municipal Election came to $13,410.88. The Clerk’s office also received the final bill from Platte County for housing Earl Forrest in their county jail. The total cost came to $9,000 and the Commission agreed to pay the bill. Red Cummings and Sharon English attended the meeting to inform the Commission of a public meeting that they attended in Phelps County last week. The meeting, which is held once a year, is called Phelps County Out Reach Night and it consists of all county officials meeting together in one room to allow citizens the chance to express any concerns or ask questions. Cummings and English both said they would like to see Dent County do something like this. Commissioner Skiles said he spoke with Phelps Counties Presiding Commissioner about this and how it was organized and he too would like to see this happen in Dent County.  Commissioner Simpson said it would not be a vote of the Commission, but a vote of all county officials. Commissioner Tune said he was not opposed to the idea, but he feels the Courthouse is very available for the public to come in and express any concerns or ask any questions. The Commission said they would discuss this topic more at a later date. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving traffic stops. On April 19^th at 10:57 in the evening, a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation led to the arrest of a 20-year old Salem male for possession of marijuana. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On April 20^th at 7:35 in the evening, a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation led to the detention of a 15-year old juvenile from Warrensburg for possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released to his grandmother and the report will be forwarded to the juvenile officer. On April 21^st at 12:34 in the morning, a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation led to the arrest of an 18-year old male from House Springs for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He posted bond and was released on a summons to appear in court. At 12:47 the same morning, a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation led to the arrest of a 23-year old male of Springfield, a 19-year old male of Stockton and a 44-year old male of Battlefield for possession of marijuana. They posted bond and were released on a summons to appear in court. At 1:50 the same morning, a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation led to the arrest of a 22-year old Salem male for driving while intoxicated. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Later the same morning at 5:05, a vehicle stopped for a traffic violation led to the arrest of a 20-year old Linn Creek male for possession of marijuana. He posted bond and was released on a summons to appear in court. 

The Spring Community–Wide Yard Sale for 2007 will be held this Saturday. The community-wide yard sales have been a real success in Salem. If you don’t have a location to hold your sale you may call the City Administration building, 729-2428 to reserve a spot on the parking lot behind their building at 4th and Iron Streets. There is a small fee for this reservation. Spots will be reserved on a first-come, first serve basis. There are 15 spaces still available. The Spring Community-Wide Yard Sale has attracted many out-of-town visitors, and there has been good participation of local people hosting yard sales, and participating as buyers. Several families have reported making a good deal of spending money at their yard sales. This is a good way to help clean up your storage areas or garages and make some extra cash at the same time!

School will be dismissed early on Friday, May 4^th due to a teacher In-service. Dismissal times are William Lynch will dismiss at 11:15 AM, Salem R-80 Upper Elementary will dismiss at 11:20 AM, Salem R-80 Jr./Sr. High Schools will dismiss at 11:30 AM and the rural schools, Oak Hill R-I, Green Forest R-II, Dent-Phelps R-III and Northwood R-IV will dismiss at 11:45 AM.
