An accident occurred at 2:30 in the early morning on Tuesday, April 29th about 10 miles east of Salem on County Road 5220. According to the highway patrol report, a 1998 Jeep Cherokee driven by 21-year old Ethan Plank of Salem was traveling northbound, ran off the right side of the roadway, struck a tree, and overturned down a steep embankment. Plank suffered minor injuries and was transported to the Salem Memorial Hospital by private vehicle. He was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Jeep Cherokee was totaled and removed by the owner.

The Salem Police Department has released more reports. On Monday, April 21st at 3:50 in the afternoon, an officer received a report from a 43-year old Salem male that had been assaulted by a 28-year old Salem female. After reviewing video evidence of the incident it was revealed that the male had not been assaulted and he had made false accusations. He was then arrested for making a false report, issued a summons to appear in court, and released. That same afternoon at 4:50, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft.  The investigation revealed that a someone entered a garage in the 1500 block of Roberts Avenue and took a toolbox containing a saws all, a jig saw, and a skill saw, the value of all totaling $370. Then that evening at 6:48, an officer was detailed to an accident on Missouri Highway 32 at Oak. That investigation led to the arrest of a 39-year old Salem female for driving while drugged. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Tuesday, April 22nd at 9:09 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to an accident in the 1700 block of Missouri Highway 32. The investigation led to the arrest of a 47-year old Salem female for driving while intoxicated. She was incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. On Wednesday, April 23rd at 3:55 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 200 block of South Warfel in reference to a violation of an order of protection. The investigation led to the arrest of a 27-year old Salem male for violating an order of protection near that location. He was incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. Later at night at 9:40, an officer made contact with a 32-year old Salem male in the 700 block of South Jackson who was acting suspicious. He was arrested for possession of marijuana, issued a summons to appear in court, and released. On Thursday, April 24th at 7:06 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the Gas Plus convenience store located at on Highway 32 in reference to theft of fuel. That investigation revealed that the driver of a maroon Ford Taurus with no license plates pumped $24 in fuel and left without paying.  Anyone with info regarding the thefts is asked to call the Salem Police Office at 729-4242.

The Missouri Department of Transportation has announced the roadwork that will continue in our area. In Dent County, roadside maintenance will take place on Highway 19 between Route B and Route WW on today through Thursday, May 8th. In Crawford County, roadside maintenance will take place on Highway 19 between I-44 and Glassey Road and on Route JJ between Route N and the end of state maintenance today and Thursday, May 1st. Roadside maintenance will also take place on Highway 49 between Highway 19 and Route Y, Route V between Highway 49 and Route Y, Route Y between Route V and Highway 49 in Iron County, and on Route TT between Highway 8 and the end of state maintenance today through Friday, May 9th. In Phelps County, pavement replacement in the eastbound lanes continues on I-44 between Highway 63 and Vichy Road. One eastbound lane is closed through the work area. Motorists can expect delays in the area. The project is scheduled for completion in May. Roadway maintenance will take place on Route K between Highway 63 and the Pulaski county line today and Thursday, May 1st. Roadway maintenance will take place on Route M between Highway 63 and Route J on Monday, May 5th and Tuesday, May 6th. Roadway maintenance will take place on Route P between Route T and Route J on Wednesday, May 7th and Thursday, May 8th. One lane will be open and crews will flag traffic through these work areas. The Dent-Phelps R-3 School is sponsoring a community health fair, science fair, art exhibit, and academic display of student work. The event will be held this Thursday, May 1, 2014 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The school is located a mile from Highway 72 on Highway C. A Sloppy Joe dinner will be served, free of charge. Final sign-ups for the City of Salem Summer Youth Baseball/Softball/T-Ball Program will be held Thursday, May 1st and Friday, May 2nd from 4:00 to 6:00 in the front lobby of the Salem Community Center @ the Armory. The cost is $20 per child and it is for ages 4-13. For more information contact Parks & Rec Director Greg Nash at 729-6290. Coaches are also needed.

The Salem Baseball Tigers lost to Mountain View on Tuesday, 3-2. All three runs the Tigers gave up were unearned. Salem is now 5-10 on the year and 1-4 in the SCA. The Tigers will play at Plato on Thursday in a game that was added to replaced the game with Potosi that was unable to be made up.

The Salem Tiger tennis team beat Houston, 9-0, to bring their record to 4-3 on the year. Salem will host the Salem Invitational starting at 10:00 this morning.

Lyle Overbay's RBI single in the top of the 11th inning was the difference as the surging Milwaukee Brewers took a 5-4 decision over the St. Louis Cardinals in the middle test of a three-game set from Busch Stadium. Yadier Molina homered for St. Louis, which has lost five of seven. Molina, Matt Adams, and Jhonny Peralta all had two hits in the setback. The Cardinals and Brewers play again this afternoon and you can hear it on KSMO Radio starting at 12:10.

Salvador Perez went 2-for-4 with a two- run homer and four RBI to lead the Kansas City Royals to a 10-7 win over the Toronto Blue Jays in the opener of a three-game set. Perez highlighted a six-run eighth inning with a two-run double off Sergio Santos. Omar Infante added two RBI while Nori Aoki and Jarrod Dyson finished with an RBI apiece for the Royals, winners in three of their last four games. Kansas City starter Jason Vargas allowed five runs on 10 hits over 6 1/3 innings. The Royals and Blue Jays play again tonight at 7:10.

Funeral services for Concetta Pardee of St. James, age 99, will be held Friday morning at 10:00 at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Rosati. Visitation will be held Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in St. James. Interment will be in the St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Rosati. A prayer service will be held Thursday at 5:00 with Father Charles Pardee at the James and Gahr Chapel.

Funeral services for Virgil L. Pruett of Salem, age 99, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Interment will be in the Bonne Creek Cemetery in Licking.

Funeral services for Beatrice Marie Amptmann of Cuba, 86, will be held Saturday at 10:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery.
