The Dent County Commissioners met for the regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles was unable to attend due to a previous commitment. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 6020, 6090 and 6240; and that rock and/or materials would be added to Dent County Roads 5080 and 5085. Purcell also indicated that brush was going to be cut on Dent County Road 6220. He did state that two men would try to haul some brown rock from the creek and check that road out while there, and that another work crew was working on a crossover pipe in the Eastwood Estates Subdivision. Purcell went on to say that he was bidding on a dump truck from the Green County Surplus. He said that his maximum bid would be about $22,000 for the truck which is a 2003 year truck with 165,000 miles. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that materials would be added and grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2570, 5225 and 5240. He reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2630, 2640 and 3200, while brush is going to be cut on county road 2210. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the Dent County Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

Roadwork continues in the KSMO listening area. In Crawford County, roadway maintenance will take place now through Thursday, May 2nd on Highway 49 between Highway 19 and Route Y, and roadway maintenance on Highway 8 between Highway 19 and Route Y through May 9th. Workers will flag traffic through the work area. Culvert pipe maintenance will take place through Thursday, May 9th on Route V between Highway 49 and Route Y. In Dent County, roadside maintenance will take place now through Thursday, May 9th on Route E between Highway 119 and Route K, and roadside maintenance will take place Thursday, May 2nd on Route U between Highway 68 and the end of state maintenance. In Phelps County, Bridge maintenance will take place through Thursday, May 9th on Vichy Road over I-44 in Rolla and I-44 between mile marker 169 and 195. Roadway resurfacing and signal upgrades are under way on Highway 72 between Highway 63 and Phelps County Road 5220. One lane will be open, and a pilot car will guide traffic through these work areas. The public is invited to bring their ideas to an open house and informational meeting on Thursday, May 2 at Fort Davidson State Historic Site in Pilot Knob. Sponsored by Missouri State Parks, the open house will begin at 5 p.m. in the site’s visitor center, followed by an informational meeting at 7 p.m. The meeting will address issues related to both the historic site and Elephant Rocks State Park near Graniteville. Representatives from the historic site and park will be on hand to provide information about the facilities and answer questions. Agenda items will include an update regarding the facilities, planned improvements at the sites and a recap of the year’s accomplishments. The public is invited to share comments about the facilities and current operations. The informational meeting is part of an ongoing effort by Missouri State Parks to ensure citizens have input on facilities and services offered in state parks and historic sites. People requiring special services or accommodations to attend the meeting can make arrangements by calling Fort Davidson State Historic Site at 573-546-3454. Fort Davidson State Historic Site’s visitor center is located on Highway 21 in Pilot Knob.

Montauk State Hatchery will be holding the annual Kids Free Fishing Day Saturday, May 4th from 6:30 am to 8:15 pm. The entire portion of the spring branch will be reserved for kids 15 years and under. Many rainbow trout will be stocked to help ensure that all youths have a enjoyable time. Free hot dogs and soda for lunch. Nature related activities will take place throughout the day and prizes will be awarded. Kids can pick up their free tag starting Friday afternoon, or all day on Saturday. The registration tent will be by the fish cleaning station. Please provide your own fishing pole if possible. Brady Floyd no-hit the Thayer Bobcats Monday at Thayer, as Salem moved one step closer to an SCA Title with a 9-0 win. Floyd was perfect for 5 1/3rd innings before two Salem Tiger errors allowed two runners to reach base. Lane Stluka had two doubles and three RBI to lead the Salem attack. Hunter Barnes and Dillon Harrison each finished with two hits and an RBI. Thayer helped Salem by committing seven errors in the game. Salem is now 10-4 on the year and 5-1 in the SCA. The Salem Tiger Tennis team defeated Richland on Monday, 9-0, to move to 8-1 on the season. Matt Sirois recorded his 100th career victory in the match. Salem will travel to Osage today. 

Mat Latos spun six scoreless innings of five- hit ball and the Cincinnati Reds held off the St. Louis Cardinals, 2-1, on Monday in the opener of a three-game set at Busch Stadium. St. Louis starter Adam Wainwright (4-2) gave up both runs on five hits while fanning six over seven solid frames. Yadier Molina recorded three hits and plated the lone run for St. Louis, which has dropped three straight. The Cardinals and Reds will play again tonight and you can hear it on KSMO Radio at 6:40.

Ryan Raburn went 4-for-4 with two homers and four RBI to lead the Cleveland Indians in a 9-0 rout of the Kansas City Royals that wrapped up a four-game set. Mike Moustakas' double was the lone extra-base hit for the Royals, who had won five of six prior to losing the past two. Wade Davis (2-2) was victimized for eight runs on 12 hits over 4 2/3 innings to drop a second straight start. The Royals start a three-game series with the Tampa Bay Rays tonight.

The St. Louis Blues will host the L.A. Kings tonight in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs at 7:00. KSMO will bring you the third period following Cardinal baseball.

Funeral services for Ralph Roster of St. James, age 91, will be held this morning at 10:00 at the St. James Chapel of James and Gahr mortuary. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Church of God in St. James.

A Memorial Mass for Agnes A. Hoerner of Ballwin, age 85, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Salem. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Mary Catherine Waller of Greenwood and formerly of Potosi, age 87, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Potosi United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 11:00 Wednesday morning until service time at the church. Interment will be in the Red Bud Memorial Cemetery in Potosi. Memorials may be made to the Sayers Senior Center of Potosi.

Funeral services for Steven Joseph Soppe of Rolla, age 54, will be held Wednesday at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary of Rolla. Visitation will be held today from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Interment will be in the Edgar Cemetery in Dent County.

Memorial services for Marvin Alex Dotson of Salem, age 81, will be held Thursday at 7:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 5:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Marvin Dotson Tree Fund.

A Celebration of Life service for Gayle Rutledge Mincher, formerly of Salem, will be held Sunday at 4:00 at the Salem Christian Church.

Funeral services for Arthur “Art” Howald of Steelville, age 94, will be held Monday, May 6th at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Steelville First Baptist Church Building Fund or the Community Child Care Center.

Funeral services for Garnett “Rose” Juilian of Salem, age 98, will be Friday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 at the Chapel. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer Association.
