The Salem Police Department released their reports involving a dispute and a leave without paying for fuel. On Friday, April 24^th at 10:30 p.m. an officer was detailed to the 800 block of East First Street in reference to a dispute. The report led to the arrest of a 21-year old Salem woman and a 49-year old Salem man for disorderly conduct. Both were issued summons and released to appear in court. On Sunday, April 26^th at 1:00 p.m. an officer was detailed to BP Convenience Store in reference to a leaving without paying for fuel. The report revealed an unknown male individual pumped $17.50 of fuel into a red Grand Am and left without paying for it. The report is under investigation. Anyone with information on the leaving without pay is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their monthly meeting tonight in the hospital library beginning at 6:00 pm. After the Board of Directors swear-in and the approval of the minutes from the March 29^th meeting, Administrator Dennis Pryor will update the Board on the auxiliary report, the hospital activity calendar and legislative issues. Director of Nursing Carol Lacy will then give the summary of operations and statistics report for March along with the nursing services and ancillary services reports and the inpatient and ER patient satisfaction survey results. In old business there will be a physician office building report, a strategic planning update and a finance committee presentation for the year 2010 operating and capital budget. In new business the Board will address the Judson-Young Memorial Foundation donation, the Red Flag Rule and purchases for the hospital. The Board may then vote to go into Closed Session. The regular monthly meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors is open to the public.  

The National Park Service (NPS) and the Ozark National Scenic Riverways (ONSR) have announced that several projects were funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.  The funding spans all districts in the park and help with large maintenance projects. Projects include trail work in the Chubb Hollow area, replacing underground electric systems, and preventative roadwork in the Alley Spring area. The work will be done with a mixture of park employees and contracted services. All the projects announced are long-standing priorities of the National Park Service and meet the criteria put forth in the Recovery Act: namely, that a project addresses the Department’s highest priority mission needs; generates the largest number of jobs in the shortest period of time; and creates lasting value for the American public. Ozark National Scenic Riverways preserves the free-flowing Current and Jacks Fork Rivers, the surrounding natural resources, and the unique cultural heritage of the Ozark people.  For more information, visit www.nps.gov/ozar.

An accident happened Saturday, April 25^th at 11:47 in the morning at the intersection of Center and Pershing in Salem. According to the Salem Police report, a 1994 Ford Escort driven by Gregory Stacy of Salem was traveling southbound on Pershing Avenue and struck from behind a 2007 Ford F-150 driven by Doll Richardson of Sparta, which was stopped at the stop sign of Pershing and Center Street. Stacy did suffer injuries. The Escort sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem. The Ford pickup sustained moderate damage.

The Salem Tiger Baseball Team is the 2009 undisputed SCA Baseball Champions as they shutout the Cabool Bulldogs yesterday in a suspended game from April 9^th, 10-0. Louis Carroll pitching five strong innings with Aaron Loker finishing up in the 6^th inning. Carroll and Grant Gordon went 2-2 with 2 RBI for Salem in the game as Salem scored in every inning. Salem is now 13-2 on the year and they went a perfect 7-0 in the SCA. Congratulations Tigers! Salem will participate in the Stoutland Tournament this Friday and Saturday, weather permitting.

The Salem tennis Team will be at the Salem City Park today at 4:00 to host the Licking Wildcats.

The Salem High School Spring Sports Banquet will be held on Wednesday, May 13^th at 6:00 at the Salem High School Cafeteria.

Albert Pujols went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored as the St. Louis Cardinals got by the Atlanta Braves, 5-3, in the rubber match of a three-game set at Turner Field. Skip Schumaker, Chris Duncan and Rick Ankiel each added an RBI single for the Cardinals, who have won seven of their last nine games. Adam Wainwright (3-0) picked up the victory after working six innings. The veteran righty gave up three runs -- two earned -- on seven hits, while striking out two and walking five. He improved to 4-0 in seven games (4 starts) lifetime versus the Braves and hasn't lost a game since June 2 of last year. Ryan Franklin earned his seventh save of the season after retiring the final four batters. The Cardinals start a four game series in Washington tonight at 5:45 on KSMO Radio.

Billy Butler blasted his first two homers of the year, and the Kansas City Royals routed the Toronto Blue Jays, 11-3, in the rubber match of a three-game series. Butler finished the game 4-for-5 with four runs scored and four RBI, as the Royals stopped a brief skid in which they had lost three of four. Zack Greinke (5-0) allowed an earned run for the first time in 43 innings but still earned the win, yielding two runs on five hits and two walks while fanning eight in seven frames. Greinke became the first pitcher in the league this season to record five wins. Mark Teahen had a two-run homer while Mike Aviles tripled, doubled and knocked in a pair of runs. The Royals and Blue Jays wrap up their series this afternoon.

Graveside services for Violet E. Sickles of St. James, age 89, will be held today at 11:00 at the Asher Cemetery in rural Phelps County. All the arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of St. James.

Funeral services for Alvin Duane Rogers of Rolla, age 71, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Ridgeview Christian Church.

Funeral services for Uldene Cassidy of Steelville will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Turnbough Cemetery in Davisville.

Funeral services for David Thomas Gibson of Salem, age 70, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. 

Memorial services for William A. Andrews of Rolla, age 86, will be held Saturday, May 16th at 2:00 at the First Presbyterian Church in Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the William Andrews Civil Engineering Scholarship at MST, First Presbyterian Church of Rolla, Rolla Kiwanis club or charity of you choice.
