An accident happened at 5:15 Sunday evening, in Texas County on Highway 63 about five miles north of Houston that took the life of a Florida man. According to the highway patrol report, a 1993 Ford Ranger driven by 18-year old Bobby Oller of Edgar Springs was traveling southbound on Highway 63. Oller crossed the centerline and sideswiped a northbound 2007 Freightliner driven by 52-year old Jackie Rinne of Licking, then struck a 2007 Chevrolet Impala driven by 53-year old Judith Rinne of Licking, and slid into path of a northbound 1998 Chevrolet Van driven by 42-year old Bobby Rogers of Licking. Oller suffered serious injuries, and a passenger, 19-year old Joshua Tobin of Olean, suffered moderate injuries. Both were taken to the Texas County Hospital. Oller was then Air Evac’d to Cox South in Springfield and Tobin was transferred to Springfield Hospital. Also a passenger in the Ford Ranger was 61-year old Charles Gibson of Dade City, Florida, and Tom Whitaker, the Texas County Coroner, pronounced him dead at the scene. Judith Rinne, the driver of the Impala, suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Phelps County Memorial by a private conveyance. She was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. Bobby Rogers Sr., the driver of the Van, and his children: 15-year old Bobby Rogers Jr., 14-year old Cody Rogers and 12-year old Sarah Rogers, all suffered moderate injuries and were taken by ambulance to the Texas County Hospital. His wife, 42-year old Jody Rogers, suffered serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to the Texas County Hospital and then sent Life-Flight to the Springfield Hospital. Bobby Rogers Sr. and Jody Rogers were both wearing seat restraints at the time of the accident. The Ford, Chevrolet Impala and Van were all totaled and removed from the scene by A1 Towing. The Freightliner sustained minor damage and was driven from the scene. The report was delayed until next of kin was notified.
An accident happened Sunday evening at 6:00 in Dent County on Highway EE about a tenth of a mile south of Highway 32. According to the highway patrol report, a 2003 Ford F-150 driven by 41-year old Bill Conway of Salem was traveling northbound on Highway EE. The Ford crossed the centerline, traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck an embankment and overturned. Conway suffered minor injuries and was transported by private vehicle to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford was totaled and removed from the scene by the owner.
The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. At the meeting District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that crews are continuing with routine grading on Dent County Roads 5150, 5160, 5630, 6600, 6610 and 6620. Simpson also said that patching is being done on Dent County Road 4110. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune was not in attendance, but Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported for him that grading would be done and material would be hauled to Dent County Roads 2120, 4030 and 4480. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that the Commission and members of the county road crew met with FEMA Representatives Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 at the courthouse to go over the estimated costs of all the flood damage. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that she will be attending a Website Committee Meeting today at the TCRC as the new website will cover Salem and Dent County. The next meeting of the Commission will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Spring Sports Banquet will be held on Thursday, May 15th at the Salem High School Cafeteria starting at 6:30 pm. There will be a night of recognition for the Varsity and Junior Varsity baseball, track, golf and tennis athletes and their parents are invited to attend to honor the 2008 Spring Season.
Asa Egly’s second homer, a two-run shot in the bottom of the 6th inning, proved to be the game winner as the Mountain View Liberty Eagles came from behind and beat the Salem Baseball Tigers Tuesday afternoon in Mountain View by the score of 7-6. Ryan Smith drove in two runs for Salem while C.J. Smith and Andrew Karr each had two hits for the Tigers. Salem is now 8-4 on the year and finished 4-3 in the SCA. They will host Sullivan Thursday at 4:30.
Joel Pineiro tossed a gem, working seven scoreless innings and surrendering just one hit, as the St. Louis Cardinals cruised past the Cincinnati Reds, 7-2, in the middle matchup of a three-game set at Busch Stadium. While Pineiro (2-2) issued four walks, he induced 21 outs without allowing a hit after Corey Patterson's single to shallow center to start the game. Troy Glaus knocked in three runs and scored once for St. Louis, which has triumphed in three of its last four outings. Rick Ankiel batted 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and two runs scored, and Skip Schumaker -- who finished 4-for-5 -- and Adam Kennedy each crossed the plate twice. Reliever Anthony Reyes surrendered Adam Dunn's two-run shot in the ninth. The rubber match today pits St. Louis' Braden Looper (3-1) against Cincinnati's Aaron Harang (1-3).
Jose Guillen went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run, five RBI and two runs scored to lead the Kansas City Royals past the Texas Rangers, 9-5. Mark Teahen went 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBI for the Royals, who have won three of their last four. Ross Gload also had an RBI, while Alex Gordon and Billy Butler each had a pair of hits. Mark Grudzielanek went 4-for-6 with three doubles and three runs scored in the win. Brett Tomko got the start for KC and went 3 1/3 innings and was shelled for five runs off seven hits. Kansas City's bullpen was stellar, going 5 2/3 innings and giving up just three hits, three walks and striking out four batters. Ron Mahay (1-0) got the win after he hurled 2 1/3 innings of two-hit, scoreless ball. Te two teams play again tonight.

Funeral services for Lottie Mae Williams of Palm Bay, Florida, formerly of Salem, age 88, will be held this morning at 10:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.
Funeral services for Sherry Patterson of Salem, age 43, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the New Harmony Church. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the DCAI Christmas donations or Sherry Patterson Scholarship. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary.
Funeral services for Roger S. Mahurin of Salem, age 44, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.
Funeral services for Randy Schafer of Salem, age 48, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Green Forest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Randy Schafer Memorial Fund at Town & Country Bank.
Funeral services for Dorothy P. Halbrook of Sullivan, age 70, will be held at noon Friday at the Eaton Funeral Home Southside Chapel in Sullivan. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery in Salem. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to Cardinal Glennon Childrens Hospital in the name of Dorothy Halbrook.
