The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Saturday, April 20th at 1:30 in the afternoon, officers of the Salem Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, and Dent County Sheriffs office conducted a checkpoint near Craig Industrial Drive. During the checkpoint, a 27-year old Union male was taken into custody on an active arrest warrant from Dent County. He was released to the authority of the Dent County Sheriffs Office. Later that afternoon at 1:51, an officer was dispatched to the Pet Emporium in reference to a theft of a cell phone. The investigation revealed that a 27-year old Salem male had taken a cell phone, valued at $499, that a patron laid down on the counter. He was stopped outside the store and subsequently arrested on an active fugitive warrant from Dent County and for the theft of the phone. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released after posting bond. On Tuesday, April 23rd at 9:02 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to the Holiday Inn Express in reference to a disturbance. That investigation revealed that a 26-year old Salem male had broken five windows valued at $1,488.44 and cut a tire on a red 1997 Honda passenger vehicle valued at $136.95. He was arrested and incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On Wednesday, April 24th at 1:47 in the afternoon, an officer made contact with a 26-year old Salem female in the 100 block of East Fifth Street who had two active arrest warrants from the City of Salem. She was taken into custody on the warrants and released with a court date after posting bond. Later that afternoon at 2:30, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 1200 block of East Roosevelt in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone took $15 from a purse. Later on that evening at 9:49, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. That investigation led to the arrest of a 20-year old Salem male on an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. He was released with a court date after posting bond. On Thursday, April 25th at 10:33 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of North Pershing in reference to a burglary. The investigation of the report revealed that someone entered the basement of a residence through an unsecured door and took an entertainment center valued at $1,200. The Dent-Phelps R-3 School is sponsoring the annual Spring Jubilee this Thursday, May 2nd from 5:30 to 7:00 pm. A free Sloppy Joe dinner will be served beginning at 5:30. A community health fair will be featured; along with the display of student art work and Science Fair projects. There will surely be something for everyone. Dent-Phelps R-3 is located on Highway C about a mile from Highway 72. Everyone is welcome to attend and enjoy this fun and educational evening.
The City of Salem Planning and Zoning Board of Commissioners will be conducting a workshop at 6:30 tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers at 202 North Washington to discus the City of Salem’s new Code Book for Planning and Zoning. The workshop, called by Chairman Jerry Craig, is open to the public.
Montauk State Hatchery will be holding the annual Kids Free Fishing Day Saturday, May 4th from 6:30 am to 8:15 pm. The entire portion of the spring branch will be reserved for kids 15 years and under. Many rainbow trout will be stocked to help ensure that all youths have a enjoyable time. Free hot dogs and soda for lunch. Nature related activities will take place throughout the day and prizes will be awarded. Kids can pick up their free tag starting Friday afternoon, or all day on Saturday. The registration tent will be by the fish cleaning station. Please provide your own fishing pole if possible. The Salem Baseball Tigers will be at Thayer today to face the Bobcats in SCA play. The Tigers were to play at Steelville today, but that game was moved to next Monday to accommodate the SCA game today. The Salem Tigers 7th and 8th Grade Girls Basketball Team won the Rolla Parks and Recreation 7th and 8th Grade league at The Centre with a perfect 8-0 record. The league tournament will be held this upcoming weekend with times to be announced.
Jaden Schwartz scored twice and the St. Louis Blues locked up the fourth seed in the Western Conference playoffs with a 3-1 win over the Chicago Blackhawks. Patrik Berglund scored the other goal while Brian Elliott stopped 22 shots for the Blues. St. Louis won its last three games of the season to guarantee home ice in the first round and the team will play Los Angeles when the playoffs start on Tuesday.
Russell Martin hit two of Pittsburgh's four home runs as the Pirates beat the St. Louis Cardinals, 9-0, in the rubber match of a three-game set at Busch Stadium. Shelby Miller (3-2) had seven strikeouts but surrendered three runs on seven hits and three walks in 5 2/3 innings for St. Louis, which lost its first series since dropping two of three to Arizona to begin the season. The Cardinals will start a three-game series with the Cincinnati Reds tonight at Busch Stadium. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio at 6:40.
Jeremy Guthrie spun 6 2/3 shutout innings en route to matching a Royals' franchise record in Kansas City's 9-0 rout of the Cleveland Indians in the first game of a doubleheader from Kauffman Stadium. Guthrie (3-0) scattered six hits and three walks while striking out five to move to 8-0 over his last 16 assignments dating back to Aug. 3 of last season, tying the longest unbeaten stretch by a starting pitcher in Royals' history. Alcides Escobar had a solo home run with two RBI and Alex Gordon belted a two-run homer for Kansas City. In the second game, Mike Aviles smacked a three-run homer as the Indians routed the Royals, 10-3. Chris Getz plated a pair of runs and Lorenzo Cain contributed an RBI for the Royals, who had won three straight and five of their last six games. The Royals and Indians will play again tonight.

Funeral services for Ralph Roster of St. James, age 91, will be held Tuesday morning at 10:00 at the St. James Chapel of James and Gahr mortuary. Visitation will be held tonight from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Church of God in St. James.
Memorial Mass for Agnes A. Hoerner of Ballwin, age 85, will be held Tuesday at 11:00 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 7:00 followed by a Rosary service at 7:00 pm at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.
Funeral services for Steven Joseph Soppe of Rolla, age 54, will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary of Rolla. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. Interment will be in the Edgar Cemetery in Dent County.
Funeral services for Mary Catherine Waller of Greenwood and formerly of Potosi, age 87, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Potosi United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 11:00 Wednesday morning until service time at the church. Interment will be in the Red Bud Memorial Cemetery in Potosi. Memorials may be made to the Sayers Senior Center of Potosi.
A Celebration of Life service for Gayle Rutledge Mincher, formerly of Salem, will be held Sunday at 4:00 at the Salem Christian Church. Gayle was a graduate of Salem High class of 64.
