Salem Memorial District Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor reported that the Hospital Board of Directors have promoted Tabitha Stanfast as the Emergency Room Director to replace Angela Christenson who resigned to work at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. He went on to say that the board in closed session extended the contract of hospital attorney Mark Weaver.

The Dent County Commissioners held their meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. Both District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell and District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that crews were out patching low water crossings and repairing rain damaged roads and washouts, since both districts had received over 10 inches of rain since last Friday. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he attended a meeting on Tuesday at the Ozark Natural & Cultural Resource Center for a discussion about the future of the Salem TCRC. Discussion was held on the mission of the TCRC, as well as future programs and funding for the Salem TCRC. On Wednesday, Skiles attended a meeting of the Meramec Regional Emergency Planning Commission in St. James at the MRPC. The election of officers was held and the budget was approved for 2011/2012 fiscal year. There was also a discussion and a warning for emergency responders to be very careful when dealing with a new wave of chemical suicides by the Missouri Emergency Response Commission. Skiles reported that he would be at the MRPC in St. James Thursday afternoon presiding over hearings of the Public Housing Authority. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that she is still waiting for all the final costs for the municipal election that was held in Salem on April 5^th. Prosecuting Attorney Sid Pearson was in attendance to discuss the Quit-Claim Deed from MoDOT for the right-of-way property created by the improvements made on Highway 32. Now that MoDOT has completed their work on the approaches at Highway 32 and Dent County Roads 2205, 2410, 6080 and 6090, Pearson recommended a resolution for the transfer of that land back to Dent County. The resolution was approved and signed off on by the Commission. The Dent County Industrial Development Authority sent a letter requesting the Commission to approve the appointment of Dean Jones to fill a vacancy on the board, and it was approved. The Health Center sent a letter requesting the Commission appoint Patty Schults to fill a vacancy on their board and the Commission approved their request. Presiding Commissioner Skiles along with Commissioners Purcell and Larson as well as County Clerk Angie Curley will be attending a Board of Equalization workshop on June 9^th in Springfield, and will nominate two members of the community to also attend that workshop. Purcell stated that he attended a Region I Homeland Security Oversight Committee meeting Thursday afternoon. He said that the Jadwin Fire Department received a grant of $4,664 for radios, and he also said that the deadline for grant applications with the Region I HSOC is May 18^th. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and that meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Baseball Tigers game with Mountain Grove Thursday was postponed due to wet grounds and will be played on Wednesday, May 4th at 4:30. The Tigers will be at Stoutland for their tournament facing Billings at 4:30 this afternoon, Stoutland at 9:00 Saturday morning, and Potosi at 3:00 Saturday afternoon. Salem enters that tournament with a 9-3 record. The tournament will NOT be aired on KSMO Radio.

The Salem Tigers Golf team will be at District play this morning at Farmington starting at 8:30. The Salem Tigers Track teams will host the SCA meet today starting at 5:30 at the Salem High School Track. The Salem Tiger Tennis Team will be hosting Houston today at 4:00 at the Salem City Park.

Former Astro Lance Berkman went 4-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI as St. Louis used a nine-run sixth inning to beat Houston, 11-7, in the rubber match of a three-game set at Minute Maid Park. Matt Holliday had two hits and drove in three for the Cardinals, who won the series and have taken six of eight overall. David Freese hit safely three times and knocked in a run while scoring twice. Kyle McClellan (4-0) picked up the win despite allowing eight hits and five runs over 5 2/3 innings. The Cards will be in Atlanta to face the Braves starting tonight at 6:00.

Grady Sizemore hit one of four solo home runs as the Cleveland Indians took a three-game sweep of the Kansas City Royals with an 8-2 win. Wilson Betemit hit a two-run double for the Royals, who have dropped their past six games. Kyle Davies (1-3) was banged up for eight runs on nine hits with a walk and four strikeouts over 3 1/3 innings. The Royals will host Minnesota this weekend.

Salem Tigers Boys Basketball Camp will run from Tuesday May 31st – Friday June 3rd.  Camp Times are 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m for boys entering 9 –12 grades and 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. for boys entering 5- 8 grades. Cost of the camp is $30.  Camp forms will be sent home with kids, but if you do not receive one, you can stop by the JH and pick one up from Coach Zenker. Camp Forms are due back Friday May 13th so that T-Shirts can be ordered.

There will be a Girls Softball Clinic for girls going into the 5th - 8th grades next school year at the City Park fields or the high school gym if it rains. The Girls Softball Clinic will be held 3 Saturdays in a row on May 14^th, May 21^st and May 28^th. The cost is $20 and the clinics will be held from 9:00 am until noon. The clinic will consist of 3 Saturdays of specialized drills and fundamental work that will increase your skill level.  At the clinic you will work on correct hitting mechanics to improve bat speed, and throwing and fielding mechanics that will help you to be a tough defender.  Game strategy and situations to help you understand how to play the game will also be covered.  Each participate will receive a t-shirt. The seventh and eighth grade Honors Choir members will join the Upper Elementary Honors Choir to sing the National Anthem on July 28^th at Busch Stadium. The band will be playing “God Bless America” prior to the choirs singing the National Anthem.
