The Ava Bears scored in every inning, as they handed the Salem Tigers a 14-8 loss. The Tigers scored their eight runs on a total of eight hits. Salem falls to 5-10 on the year and 2-5 in the SCA. The Tigers play in the first round of the Stoutland Tournament on Friday.
Jaime Garcia pitched seven shutout innings, and the St. Louis Cardinals extended Atlanta’s losing streak with a 6-0 win over the Braves at Busch Stadium. Garcia (2-1) allowed only four hits and a walk while fanning five for the Cardinals, who have won four straight games, including the first three of this four-game set. Garcia now has an ERA of 1.04 for the year. David Freese went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Albert Pujols and Colby Rasmus each had a pair of hits, and RBI, and a run scored for the win. The Cards go for the four game sweep of the Atlanta Braves this afternoon starting with the Dug-Out Show at 12:20 on KSMO Radio.
Rob Johnson’s sacrifice fly in the eighth inning provided the go-ahead run, and the Seattle Mariners held on for a 6-5 win over the Kansas City Royals in the rubber match of a three-game series. Brad Thompson (0-1) took the Loss for Kansas City for giving up the go-ahead run, while starter Gil Meche didn’t factor into the decision after allowing five runs on eight hits in six innings. Jason Kendall and Mitch Maier each had two hits and two RBI for the Royals, who went 2-4 on their six-game homestand. KC starts a series with the Tampa Bay Rays tonight.
The St. Louis Rams obtained safety Kevin Payne from the Chicago Bears yesterday, in exchange for an undisclosed 2011 draft pick. Payne spent the last three seasons with Chicago after being selected in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL Draft.
