The Salem Police Department released their reports involving sexual misconduct, property damage and forgery. On Tuesday, April 21st at 4:07 p.m. an officer was detailed to the Salem Treatment Center in reference to sexual misconduct.  The report led to the arrest of a 31-year old St. Louis male for sexual misconduct.  He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. At  5:01 p.m. that same evening, an officer was detailed to the 100 block of South Carty in reference to property damage.  The report revealed the driver side door glass of a 1991 maroon Dodge Caravan was broken.  The value of the damage is approximately $150. On Thursday, April 23rd at 8:10 p.m. an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a forgery.  The report revealed a 30-year old Salem male forged the name of a 26-year old Salem female on a vehicle title.  Anyone with any information regarding the property damage or forgery reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

The Dent County Fire Protection District released their reports for the last week. On Monday, April 20th at 7:21 pm 13 firefighters responded to a structure fire on Dale Street. Upon arrival there was remains of a structure that was being burned. Firefighters stayed on Dale Street to make sure the fire did not get out of control. On Tuesday, April 21st at 10:28 pm, nine firefighters responded to a small fire on the side of a structure on County Road 2303. The scene was under control at 11:21 pm. On Friday, April 24th at 2:55 in the afternoon, seven firefighters responded to a brush fire on County Road 6068. Upon arrival firefighters found about a half acre on fire, extinguished the fire and had the scene under control at 3:06. On Saturday, April 25th at

11:47 in the morning, nine firefighters responded to a motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Center and Pershing Streets in Salem. Upon arrival on occupant was injured and the Dent County Fire Protection District firefighters assisted the Salem Memorial District Hospital with the patient. On Sunday, April 26th at 3:18 in the afternoon, nine firefighters responded to a grass fire on Highway 19 North. Upon arrival firefighters found about a quarter of an acre on fire. The scene was brought under control at 3:35. Then at 5:58 that same afternoon, firefighters responded to a grass fire on Highway 69 North. Upon arrival 11 firefighters found about a half an acre on fire. The fire was extinguished and the scene was brought under control at 6:12 pm.

Andy Reed, a regional horticulture specialist from the University of Missouri Extension, along with AmeriCorps VISTA Food Development Associate Eric Stephens will be hosting a garden class this morning at 10:00 at the Salem Community Garden. The class will be on “Companion Plants in the Vegetable Garden.” Heirloom tomato plants will be given away free to members of the Salem Community Garden and the remainder of the tomato plants will be give away FREE to anyone who attends the class. They have over 100 tomato plants to giveaway. Other seeds will be available for FREE to anyone who wants them. The Salem Community Garden is located at the Salem United Methodist Church on East Scenic Rivers Boulevard.

You can still learn to grow, harvest and use a wide variety of herbs through the workshop series, “Thyme with Herbs” at the Ozark Natural & Cultural Resource Center located at 202 South Main. Workshop #3 will be held on Thursday, and will introduce many surprising benefits of using herbs for health and beauty presented by Karen Robert of SunnySlope Farms and Crystal Moore of Three Willows Natural Harvest. Grant Gordon struck out 16 Bears and got his 7th win of the year as he shutout Ava on two hits Tuesday, 5-0. Gordon also had two hits and an RBI for Salem who improves to 12-2 on the year and 6-0 in the SCA, clinching at least a tie for the SCA championship. They will try to win the SCA outright today as they face the Cabool Bulldogs today in a makeup game from two weeks ago starting at 3:00 at the SHS Field. Salem finished 7th on Tuesday at a dreary Tiger Classic in St. James. Connor Stroburg led the scoring with a 94, Robbie Brooks shot a 97, Branden Piatt finished with a 105, and Ben Adams shot a 112.

Matt Diaz hit a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning, and the Atlanta Braves held on to edge the St. Louis Cardinals, 2-1, in the second of a three-game set at Turner Field. Kyle Lohse had a six-inning start. The right-hander gave up four hits, fanned six and walked four. He also picked up a base hit. Kyle McClellan (1-1) suffered the loss after being touched for two runs, one hit and three walks in two-thirds of an inning. The Cards and Braves play again tonight at 6:00 on KSMO Radio.

Scott Richmond pitched seven strong innings while Vernon Wells drove in three runs, as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Kansas City Royals, 8-1, at Kauffman Stadium. David DeJesus drove in the lone run with an RBI double in the fifth inning for the Royals, who have dropped three of their last four contests. Gil Meche (1-2) suffered the loss after he allowed five runs on seven hits with five walks and two strikeouts over 3 2/3 innings. However, Meche left the game with lower back tightness and is considered day-to-day. The two teams play again tonight.

Graveside services for Marie Smith of Kansas City, formerly of Salem, will be today at 1:00 at the Empire Cemetery in Gladden. Memorials are suggested to the American Lung Association. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County memorial Chapel in Salem.

Funeral services for Robert “Bob” Stewart of Salem, age 74, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the Fox Funeral Home in Licking. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00.

Graveside services for Violet E. Sickles of St. James, age 89, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the Asher Cemetery in rural Phelps County. All the arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of St. James.

Funeral services for Alvin Duane Rogers of Rolla, age 71, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Ridgeview Christian Church.

Funeral services for Uldene Cassidy of Steelville will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Turnbough Cemetery in Davisville.

Funeral services for David Thomas Gibson of Salem, age 70, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. 

Memorial services for William A. Andrews of Rolla, age 86, will be held Saturday, May 16th at 2:00 at the First Presbyterian Church in Rolla. Memorials are suggested to the William Andrews Civil Engineering Scholarship at MST, First Presbyterian Church of Rolla, Rolla Kiwanis club or charity of you choice. All the arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.
