The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting Monday morning at the courthouse. In the road report, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that it is too wet to grade so work crews will be checking for downed trees and limbs from the high winds over the weekend. He said with the expected rains, crews are going to be checking the flow of water to see if they can figure out a way to keep some of the damage from occurring to the roads. Purcell went on to say that work crews would be removing the pintle hitch from Dent County Truck 111, and that a U-joint will be replaced on Dent County Truck 66. Purcell reported that a stop sign will be installed on Dent County Road 4080, and that trash would be cleaned up on Dent County Road 5150. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson said that work crews would be picking up debris on the roads and replacing downed road signs. He also stated that the crews would be monitoring the areas with water problems. He wanted to let everyone know that grading cannot occur on the county roads until the conditions are right, otherwise damage could be done to the roads. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he attended the Region I Homeland Security Oversight Committee meeting and the county is still waiting for approval on receiving the back-up generator for the Oak Grove Baptist Church to serve as an emergency Red Cross shelter. He also said that he discussed the memo concerning the militia, Christians and liberals as being “dangerous” with Paul Finiwald from the Missouri Office of Homeland Security. He wanted him to know that Dent Countians did not appreciate or agree with that memo especially since Homeland Security uses numerous churches as emergency shelters. Skiles said that he would be attending an Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management Security Council meeting today, and a Meramec Regional Emergency Planning Committee meeting on Wednesday. Skiles presented a letter from the 42^nd Judicial Circuit Court that said the Missouri Children’s Division has eliminated the $30,000 state supplement for the Guardian ad Litem fees after this year. A Guardian ad Litem represents victim children in abuse and neglect cases, and currently there are two attorneys that serve in that capacity at a total cost of $82,000 annually. The $30,000 will have to be made up by the five counties that comprise of the 42^nd Judicial Circuit Court in their 2010 budget. The commissioner agreed to send a letter of discontent to Senator Barnitz and Representative Smith concerning this cut. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be held Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will be patching on Route C in Dent and Texas Counties, from Route O in Dent County to Highway 32 in Texas County beginning today. Weather permitting, crews and equipment will be on the roadway between the hours of 7:00 am and 4:30 pm. Patching restores rideability of the roadway surface. Motorists are urged to exercise caution when moving through the work zone. School will be dismissed early this Friday due to a teacher in-service. Dismissal times will be at 11:15 for William Lynch, 11:20 for the Salem R-80 Upper Elementary, and 11:30 for the Salem Junior and Senior High Schools. The rural schools: Oak Hill R-1, Green Forest R-2, Dent-Phelps R-3 and Northwood R-4, will all be dismissing at 11:45.

The Salem Tiger Baseball Team’s game with Ava Monday was postponed due to rain. It has been rescheduled for today at 4:30. Salem enters the game with an 11-2 record overall and 5-0 in the SCA. You can hear the game on KSMO and online at ksmoradio.com.

The Salem Tigers Baseball game with Cabool that was rained out two weeks ago has been rescheduled for tomorrow at 3:00 at the SHS Baseball Field Complex.

The Salem Tigers Junior High Track Teams will hold the Salem Open today starting at 4:00.

The Salem Tiger Golf Team will be on the road in St. James today.

Rick Ankiel went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs, as the St. Louis Cardinals edged Atlanta, 3-2, in the opener of a three-game series with the Braves. Chris Duncan finished with a hit, an RBI and a walk for the Cardinals, who rebounded from Sunday's 10-3 loss to the Cubs to win their sixth game in seven tries. Joel Pineiro (4-0) took the win after allowing two runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings, with one strikeout. He has won each of his four starts this season and lowered his ERA to 3.76. the Cards and Braves play again tonight at 6:00 or after Salem Tiger Baseball.

Brian Bannister threw seven innings of one- run, one-hit ball, and Jose Guillen hit a pair of home runs to lead Kansas City to a 7-1 victory over Toronto in the opener of a four-game set. Bannister (2-0), coming off six scoreless innings in his first start of the season, walked six but retired 13 of the final 14 batters he faced. Guillen finished 3-for-4 with three RBI, while Miguel Olivo chipped in a three-run homer for the Royals, who had lost three of four. the Royals and Blue Jays play again tonight.

St. Louis Rams have agreed to terms with wide receivers Jarrett Byers and Quentin Chaney, fullback Jerome Johnson, guards Roger Allen III and Ray Feinga, center Daniel Sanders, tackles David Oswald and Phillip Trautwein, linebackers Ekenemchukwu Asiodu, Dominic Douglas, defensive linemen Ian Campbell, Mike Newkirk, Kirston Pittman, cornerback Cordelius Parks and safety Mark Rubin.
