The Dent County Commissioners regular meeting was held Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. At the meeting, Deloris Gray Wood was in attendance and wanted to thank the commissioners and all those involved in the 140^th birthday of the Dent County Courthouse for making it a success even though it had to be moved inside. She also said that she is searching older documents for another means to keep the traces and trails open in the Ozark National Scenic Riverways. In the road report, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 5450, 5500 and 6670. He said that road crews are going to replace a culvert on Dent County Road 5015 and county truck #117 is being serviced. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading is going to be done on Dent County Roads 3220 and 6160, and road crews will check for downed trees from Saturday’s storm. He said that road signs will be replaced on Dent County Roads 3225 and 3090, and tires are being rotated on county truck #118. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles also wanted to thank everyone for attending the celebration Sunday concerning the courthouse and wanted to thank Senator Frank Barnitz, Representative Jason Smith and Congresswoman Jo Ann Emerson for their proclamations. Skiles said that on Thursday, the Dent County Commissioners sent a letter to Reed Detring at the Ozark National Scenic Riverways stating their opposition to the closing of any roads, traces or trails in the Upper Current area. He said that the county has even offered creek gravel to help if needed, and asked that a public meeting be held on this at the Salem City Hall Auditorium. Skiles stated the public needs to air their concerns about these proposed closures by writing to Mr. Detring. Letters can be sent to Reed Detring, ONSR Superintendent, 404 Watercrest Dr., P.O. Box 490, Van Buren, MO  63965. Skiles also said that he, Commissioner Dennis Purcell, Dent County Emergency Management Director Brad Nash and others would be going to Kearney, Nebraska for a demonstration of the Interop-Solutions, LLC system that coordinates intercommunication between different systems. They should be back Wednesday evening after the demonstration. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.The Salem Police Department released their reports involving property damage, a traffic stop, theft, assault and a leave without paying for fuel. On Thursday, April 15^th at 10:00 a.m. an officer was detailed to Highway 19 North to the Lifeway Center in reference to property damage. Investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown had damaged the metal roof of the building. The damage is valued at $450. On Friday, April 16^th at 12:45 a.m. a vehicle was stopped for a speeding violation that led to the arrest of a 45-year old St. Louis woman for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was issued summons to appear in court and released on bond. On Saturday, April 17^th at 4:40 a.m. an officer was dispatched to Wal-Mart in reference to a theft from a vehicle. The investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown had removed a playmate cooler from the back of a pickup without permission. At 4:30 that afternoon, an officer responded to the 300 block of West Dent in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown had stolen a Troybilt push lawn mower valued at $450.00. On Sunday, April 18^th at 2:20 p.m. an officer was contacted at station in reference to an assault. The investigation revealed that a 36-year old Salem woman reported being assaulted in the 300 block of North Park Street by a 23-year-old Licking woman. At 3:20 that same afternoon, an officer was detailed to the 600 block of North McGrath Lane in reference a theft of fuel. The investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown had stolen approximately 6 gallon of fuel from a vehicle. Anyone with any information regarding the property damage, thefts, assault or theft of fuel reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.
