The Salem Tiger Golf Team shot a 429 to finish 8th in the 3A District 1 Tournament held Wednesday at Crown Pointe Country Club in Farmington. Alan Benowitz shot a 95, Ben Adams recorded a 96, Dylan Sisco got a 114, C.J. Davison shot a 124, and Adam Wood recorded a 130. Benowitz was named to the All-District team. Benowitz and Adams qualified for the State Sectional Meet held next Friday at Franklin County Country Club in Washington. Salem will next play Monday at Mountain View/Liberty in the Conference Tournament.

Lance Lynn tossed eight strong innings and became the first pitcher to four wins this season as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Chicago Cubs, 5-1. Lynn (4-0) fanned seven and allowed one run on six hits and two walks. The 24-year old has a minuscule 1.33 ERA with 24 strikeouts so far in four starts this year. David Freese smacked a two-run homer in a three-run sixth and added an RBI double in the eighth for St. Louis, which salvaged the finale of the three-game set. Carlos Beltran had two stolen bases, giving him five for the year. The Cards have the day off.
Alex Gordon hit a three-run home run and Billy Butler added two homers as Kansas City snapped a 12-game losing streak with an 8-2 win over Cleveland in the second of a three-game set. Butler hit a two-run and solo homer while Eric Hosmer contributed a two-run homer for the Royals, who hadn't won a game since defeating Oakland on April 10th. Luke Hochevar (2-1) gave up just two runs on four hits over 6 1/3 innings for the win. The Royals and Indians play again this afternoon.

Memorial services for Violet Marie (Ard) Holland formerly of Salem, age 66, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Gladden Empire Cemetery. A dinner will follow at the Gladden Community Center. Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army the American Cancer Society.
Funeral services for Leonard Richard Cozad Jr. of Rolla, Missouri, age 71, will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the St. Patrick Church of Rolla. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.
Funeral services for Sophie Bodine of St. James will be held Tuesday morning at 10:00 at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Rosati. Visitation will be Monday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James with a prayer service at 6:00. Interment will be in the St. Anthony Catholic Cemetery in Roasti. Memorials may be made to the Tri-County Humane Society or the St. Anthony Cemetery.
