The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors held their regular monthly meeting Thursday evening in the hospital library. After certifying the April 6^th election results, Attorney Mark Weaver gave the oath of office to A.J. Seay and Dennis Fiebelman. Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor welcomed Kasey Lucas who will serve as the new Assistant Administrator beginning June 21^st. Lucas is not new to SMDH, he served as Controller before leaving to work at Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla. Controller Stephanie Wofford presented the summary of operations for the month of March. There were 74 inpatient admissions and 297 inpatient census days. The hospital showed an excess of revenues over expenses of $63,708. Carol Lacy gave the director of nursing report. There were 75 acute care patients admitted in March, 867 emergency room visits with a turnaround time of 114 minutes in the ER, 206 ambulance runs with 195 patients assessed, 24 surgery cases, 2,038 outpatient registrations, 232 Home Health Visits, 10,151 lab tests, 1,266 radiological procedures, 298 CT scans, 36 MRI scans, 6 nuclear med scans, 346 rehab treatments, 230 dialysis treatments and 451 clinical visits. Pryor gave the hospital Auxiliary report. The auxiliary raised $802 with the Scrubs and Beyond Fundraiser. He said that the  auxiliary will hold a Masquerade Jewelry Sale April 26 & 27 at the Dent County Fire Department Fire Station, and a barbecue will be held in conjunction with hospital week on May 14^th. The board reviewed the ER and Inpatient Satisfaction results for the first quarter of 2010 that showed a high level of patient satisfaction with the hospital. The board discussed physician recruitment and reviewed the new electronic medical record timeline. Dr. Demorlis and Karen Brown are attending a conference in Canada this week for physician recruitment. A new ER doctor, Dr. David White, will begin soon. May 25-27 will be a men’s and women’s health fair at the hospital.  Pryor then discussed the hospital lagoon situation and reported that Seville Nursing Center has agreed to partner with the hospital for a lagoon study. The finance committee met and reported that the budget will be presented at the May meeting with final approval at the June meeting. Pryor reported that PCRMC staff would offer guidance with forming the SMDH Hospital Foundation. Pryor reported that the Missouri Foundation for Health grant proposal to help fund the Backpack program was not funded, but he encouraged the community to support this worthwhile program.  The board approved the budgeted purchase of a LCD monitor for Environmental Services for $157 from CompUSA, two OfficeJet printers for Administration and Nursing for $295 from CompUSA, and a laser all-in-one printer for $537 from PC Connection. Non-budgeted purchases approved include a heating and cooling unit for $5,587 from Victor Furnace for Pharmacy, a server and computer licenses for Information Services for $4,650 from Kaseya, a Mirth Appliance and Pharmacy HL7 Interface for Information Systems for $29,000 from Mirth appliance.  They approved a Long Term Care Nursing station renovation that will cost $6,259, but a donation was received from the Judson Young Foundation for $5,000 so the hospital will need to only pay the remaining $1,259.  A new Emergency Department ED Software system was approved with a total cost of $475,936 with a 60-month contract. Of that amount, $20,000 will be non-budgeted since it will need to be paid this fiscal year, but the remaining balance will be put in next years budget. This software system will take 6 months to build and will help the physicians with coding patient procedures that will enable additional revenue to be realized. The board then voted to go into closed session.

Captain Lee Ann Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announces the results of a three-day special enforcement operation in Dent County, entitled “Wolfpack”.  The days of the operation were Thursday, April 15^th, Friday, April 16^th, and Sunday, April 18^th.  The Patrol's objective was vigorous enforcement of all traffic laws, with a special emphasis on alcohol and drug violations. During the course of the operation the assigned troopers stopped 132 vehicles, issued 149 warnings and made the following traffic enforcement contacts and criminal arrests. There were three arrests for DWI, 17 speeding violations, 27 seatbelt violations, three driver’s license violations, and nine other traffic violations. There were five insurance violations, two hazardous moving violations, 13 misdemeanor drug violations, two violations for a minor in possession, four felony drug violations and one warrant arrest.

Vocal music students representing the Salem Junior High choir traveled to Jefferson City on Saturday, April 24^th to compete in the Mid-Missouri Music Festival. Receiving 1 ratings were the 7th and 8th grade choir, and the 8th grade trio composed of Haley Cason, Brittany Rowan, and Victoria Douglas. Those receiving 1 ratings for their vocal solos were Joshua Brown, Haley Cason, Kim Pelc, and Gabby Spuhler. The students were under the direction of Catherine Dent, vocal music instructor.
