The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning in the Dent County Courthouse. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams was in to give an update on CART receipts, which are up by $6,479.45 for the year to date. In the road report District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that materials would be added to and grading done on Dent County Roads 5525, 5110 and 5130, while grading only would be done on county roads 6255, 6520, 6540, 6545 and 6550. Purcell went on to say that materials would be added to county road 6640. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that his entire crew was patching chip and seal with cold mix on county roads 3260 and 3290 and others if time and materials permit. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that he would be attending the Region I Homeland Security Oversight Committee meeting in St. James Thursday afternoon. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported, that the County Policy Handbook needs to be reprinted so she presented a draft copy for the Commissioners to review and make necessary changes. She also mentioned the MRPC electrical and appliance collections will be held on May 24^th at the St. Robert Community Center at 114 J. H. Williamson Drive and on June 14^th at the Maries County Maintenance Shed at Highway 28 and Highway Z at Lanes Prairie.  Both collections are from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm and there is a $5.00 charge for TVs and computer monitors.  Curley also stated that she had completed the Quarterly Assessors Reimbursement Report for the Missouri State Tax Commission and it would be sent after Commissioners approved it.  Mike Smith, of the Missouri Department of Conservation, was in to discuss the possibility of the department piggy backing the county’s chip and seal bid from West Paving for paving 1,260 feet at Indian Trails Conservation Area.  After discussion of differences in requirements and what the county provides, Smith decided the MDC would pursue their own bids.  Willis Stagner was in to discuss the naming of the cemetery in Salem, which is just off of Lough Lane that belongs to Dent County.  Currently the cemetery has no name and there is a Stagner Cemetery south of Salem off of Highway 19. The Commissioners approved 3 – 0 for the name to be The John Stagner Cemetery.  Necessary legal documents will be completed to finalize the name.  Dave Wells of ABS was in to discuss the needs for a Printer/Scanner/Fax machine for the Commissioners Office.  Wells will get prices for the different options that were discussed.  Ron Blevins of MOGAS Pipeline was on Highway 72 at county road 2230 to do a natural gas locate for a resident and had discovered that the road is currently miss-marked as 3175. Commissioner Larson said that his crew would take care of the situation.  The Commissioners discussed the bids for new Dent County Plat Books and by a vote of 3 – 0 approved the bid from Farm and Home Publishing for 250 books and 25 wall maps for $5,800.00.  The next meeting of the Dent County Commission will be Monday morning at 9:00 in the Courthouse and it is open to the public.

Two people from St. James face murder, burglary, and assault charges in connection with an incident early Wednesday morning in the Rosati area that left one man dead and another injured. According to online court records, 29-year old Oryon Dain Guinn faces five charges: first-degree murder, armed criminal action, second-degree burglary, first-degree assault resulting in serious physical injury, and unlawful possession of a firearm. Additionally, 31-year old Chelsea Lynn Maxfield faces three charges: first-degree murder, first-degree burglary, and first-degree assault resulting in serious physical injury. Both are being held in the Crawford County Jail on $1 million cash-only bonds each. Crawford County Sheriff Randy Martin stated that deputies were dispatched around 2:00 Wednesday morning to a residence in the 200 block of Piazza Road in the Rosati area in Crawford County for a report of an assault in progress. The reporting party, who was the injured man, said that he and another man had been shot. Deputies and Cuba police officers responded to the residence and found the two shooting victims. 56-year old Herman Ilges was pronounced dead by Crawford County Coroner Paul Hutson. The Missouri State Highway Patrol Division of Drug and Crime Control were called to assist with securing the residence and investigating the scene. The injured victim said he had known the suspect for about five years and that he was from the St. James area. A St. James police officer located and secured a male suspect along with a woman in the parking lot at La Cabana Mexican Restaurant and they were arrested at 3:00 Wednesday morning. A small caliber handgun, believed to be the weapon used in the shooting of the two men, was located laying on the restaurant parking lot a short distance from the vehicle the two suspects had been driving.

The Dent County Soil & Water Conservation District will be holding their Board of Supervisor Election/Open House on Tuesday, April 29^th at the Dent County Soil & Water Conservation office located at 1012 East Scenic Rivers BLVD. Office hours for the election will be from 11:30 am to 5:30 pm. Refreshments will be served throughout the day. Be sure and stop by the office and cast your vote.

Attention parents of children age 4-13, the City of Salem Summer Youth Baseball/Softball/T-Ball Program is just around the corner. Sign-ups will be held tonight from 4:00 to 6:00 and on Saturday, April 26^th from 9:00 am until noon in the front lobby of the Salem Community Center @ the Armory. The Salem Tiger baseball game against the Thayer Bobcats yesterday was suspended due to the weather. The game went to the bottom of the third with the no score and no outs with Tigers on 1^st and 2^nd base when lightning caused a delay. The game will be continued on May 7^th. Salem will participate in the Stoutland Tournament on Saturday.

The Salem Tiger track team will be in Cuba this afternoon for the Cuba Invitational at 3:30.

Bartolo Colon tossed seven strong innings to lead the New York Mets over the St. Louis Cardinals, 4-1, in the finale of a four-game set at Citi Field. St. Louis starter Lance Lynn (4-1) was charged with three runs on four hits while striking out nine in 6 1/3 innings of work in the setback. The Cardinals will start a series with the Pittsburgh Pirates tonight and you can hear it on KSMO Radio starting at 6:40.

Corey Kluber had a career day, tossing a four-hit complete game, as the Cleveland Indians defeated the Kansas City Royals, 5-1, in the finale of a four-game set at Progressive Field. The Royals will start a series with the Baltimore Orioles tonight at 6:05.

The St. Louis Blues will host the Chicago Blackhawks at 7:00 tonight at the Scottrade Center in Game Five of the Western Conference Quarterfinals. The series is tied at 2-2 and game six will be held in Chicago on Sunday at 2:00.

Funeral services for Ronnie “Hot Rod” Lester of Centerville, age 55, will be held Monday morning at 11:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Visitation will be held from 9:00 in the morning until service time. Interment will be in the Corridon- Reynolds Cemetery in Reynolds County. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital of the Coridion-Reynolds Cemetery.
