The Dent County Commission held their Quarterly Evening meeting Monday night at the Judicial Building to a hand full of people. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that year-to-date the General Revenue is up $23,700 over this time in 2011. Sales Tax is up $19,500 and expenses are down $7,300 from last year. The Road and Bridge Fund revenues are up $22,600, in part due to a reimbursement for gravel of $11,000 from the Missouri Department of Conservation and $5,000 from the Conservation Foundation for engineering on the Sinkin Creek Bridge project. Expenses for Road and Bridge are down $9,700. The CART Fund (County Aid Road Trust) is up $1,400, which is from motor vehicle sales tax and the tax on fuel. The Assessor’s Office Fund revenue is up $2,600 while the expenses are up $40,700 due to the purchase of a new computer system, which was in the budget for $42,000. The Law Enforcement Sales Tax Fund is up $18,000 and expenses are up $3,300. Revenue for the 911 Fund is up $335 and expenses are down $792. District One Commissioner Gary Larson reported he is calling daily and the county is still waiting for word from the Corp of Engineers and the Department of Natural Resources regarding the permits needed to proceed on the bridgework on county road 3210. District Two Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that he is still waiting for the Forest Service to complete a study for the bridgework over Sinkin Creek on county road 5680. The meeting was then adjourned.
The Dent County Soil and Water Conservation District election results are as follows. For the Area II Norman-Spring Creek-Short Bend Township, Roberta Kaczmarek received a winning vote with a total of 24 votes over her opponent Virginia Waites with 21 votes. For the Area IV Franklin-Gladden-Current Township, Chris Jones received the most votes with a total of 25 over his opponent Jim Cafourek with 19. The total votes cast in this election were 89.
The Dent County Cattlemen’s Pasture Walk, sponsored by The Dent County Cattlemen’s Association, the Dent County Soil and Water Conservation District and the University of Missouri Extension is scheduled for Thursday, April 26th at 6:00 pm. This pasture walk will be held at the Jim Cafourek’s farm. Come take a look at the grazing system and the grazing management practices being implemented by this landowner. Will McClain, Regional Agronomy Specialist, will be the speaker for the evening and refreshments will be provided. To get to the farm take Highway 19 South to Route B, turn left on Route B. Take the first County Road on the left past Doss (CR 5150). The farm is ¾ a mile down County Road 5150 on the right. If you plan to attend please RSVP to the Extension Office at 729-3196. In the event of bad weather, a cancellation announcement will be made on KSMO Radio 1340 AM.
An accident occurred on Tuesday at 8:02 in the evening in Dent County on County Road 6150 just south of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2001 Oldsmobile Bravada driven by 16 year-old Kimberly Bradford of Salem traveled off the left side of the roadway, overturned, and came to rest off the roadway. Bradford suffered minor injuries and was taken by the Salem EMS to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. She was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Bravada was totaled and towed by Whitaker’s Towing.
The Alley Spring Campground has been reopened for camping. The majority of the Alley Spring Campground paving project has been completed except for some minor roadwork. For visitor safety, the Round Spring campground remains closed while it’s paving continues. Expected completions date is Tuesday, May 1st. Round Spring campsites can still be reserved for future dates throughout the roadway-paving project. Call 1 877 444-6777 to make your reservations through Reserve America. The lower Round Spring River access via park Route 169 will be open daily for Current River floaters and boaters. All other park campgrounds are open. The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Saturday, April 7th at 2:42 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to the Salem Care Center in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown took $80 from a purse. Later that afternoon at 4:31, an officer was dispatched to the 600 block of South Jackson in reference to a fight in progress. The investigation revealed that a 53-year old female and a 20-year old female, both of Salem, had assaulted a 17-year old Salem female. The suspects were arrested for assault, trespassing, and disorderly conduct. The 53 year-old suspect was incarcerated and will be issued summons to appear in court. The City of Salem Board of Aldermen and the Planning & Zoning Board of Commissioners will be conducting a Workshop, called by City Administrator Clayton Lucas and Chairman Jerry Craig, on Monday, April 30th in the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington, beginning at 6:00 pm. The Workshop will be discussing the occupancy inspections for rental properties and resolving map issues. The Workshop is open to the public.
