The Salem R-80 Board of Education conducted their monthly meeting Thursday evening. After approval of the agenda and consent agenda, Superintendent Cindy Rumpf welcomed the new Board members. Rumpf reported that the MSBA Regional meeting would be held April 28th in Hartville, and she and Mr. McColloch would not be able to attend, as they will be at the MoASBO conference. Rumpf also reported that as new purchases are made, greater consideration is given to programs and equipment that promote a green environment. The custodial department has purchased new floor machines that use fewer chemicals by requiring compete stripping and waxing of the floors every three years. Roland Todd attended a workshop to certify him as “green” technician. Additionally, invoices will be scanned and filed in the computer system eliminating the need for coping and filing of hard copies in the central office. In new business there was a CIA-date team presentation. Rumpf stated that on May 5th there would be an insurance meeting for the health insurance. The Board approved a 10-cent increase in the cost of the regular priced lunches for the 2011-2012 school year. The USDA is mandating that the cost of regular priced lunches at schools be in compliance with the cost that the government pays for the free and reduced lunches. The notes that were taken at the 5-year planning meeting were presented to the Board and another meeting is planned for the second week in May. An MSIP meeting will be held on May 10th at William Lynch, and Rumpf informed the Board of budget workshops that will be held the Tuesday before each monthly meeting to better explain financial issues regarding the Salem R-80 School District. The Board accepted the resignation of the Assistant Volleyball Coach Jamie Chilton effective June 1, 2011. The Board then voted to go into Closed Session for the purpose of discussing personnel.
